Posting a game I've been making, a Terraria + Satisfactory kind of multiplayer game for ZX Spectrum for some time. The purpose is to showcase that this ancient platform still can do things, with right addons. It relies on Spectranet, an expansion device that thing has unfortunately seized from being manufactured so I decided to bite the bullet and make one myself — and so I figured might as well make one with wifi.Once released, the game will be free and open source, playable with an emulator too. The game has a lot going on, and some portions of it were borderline impossible to do — like rendering 4 moving sprites at stable 50fps while being synced on internet. > but why?It boils down to "wouldn't it be cool to do a thing that is very challenging to do"https://blog.spectranext.net/unbound-the-gameLet me know if this is worth discussing
>>12594941Damn this looks fuckin impressive. You made this? Is it 128k/have music too?
>>12594983Yes, feel free to dig facebook post, can't link it
Looks impressive.>The automation is done with Computers.>Computers are a literal 48k ZX Spectrum computers themselves.>program then BASICI-it’s too much.
>>12594941I'm assuming you're offloading processing and memory to another device, right? This looks really nice, congrats.
>>12595391Yes, since it's a multiplayer, lots of heavy lifting is done on the server.>>12595363> I-it’s too much.Yes. But i figured. Isn't this a cool way to make someone experience basic again with actual consequences? (well almost)
>>12595391> memorySpectranet provides 128k of ram, so the game lives off that. For that reason the game will work on 48k computer, although without music
>>12594941The game looks readable. That's quite impressive for a ZX Spectrum game.
>>12595979Sorry what do you mean readable?
