I don't think nintendo predicted retards would strip n64s of their ram expansions to sell separately and then sell the consoles without the jumper pak. 31 MB is compressed zip archive. Actual rom size is 40 MB which 320 Mbit. N64 didn't get cartridges this big until 2000. The biggest 1998 N64 game was Zelda OOT at 256 Mbit and for third parties 256 Mbit carts became available only the next year. So yeah, 40 Mb doesn't seem like much but in context of N64 cart rom sizes, it's a lot.

Yeah, my point is just about rom sizes needed for fighting games in general. 3D fighters still need to store a lot of animation data, even if they don't use sprites.

I think the only real problem with making fighting games on the N64 was just literally not having anyone else who was good at fighting games willing to do it. Rare made KI Gold and then became busy with scotformers and shooters, which were much better received. Nintendo themselves made Smash. Midway and Konami were active 3rd parties on the platform and they even made some fighting games on the N64 but their fighting games were crap regardless of the platform. It's not N64's fault that War Gods and Deadly Arts sucked.

Sega and SNK were bound to their own platfroms and Namco and Capcom were very reluctant about working with Nintendo
