>IGN recently caught up with Silent Hill 2's producer Akihiro Imamura at Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo. When asked if a version of the franchise would come to Nintendo's GameCube, Imamura indicated that such a title would be too adult-like for the console. "Not likely," he said. "The machine will probably be good, but the demographic will be largely younger gamers initially. That doesn't really fit in with our market for the Silent Hill series." >March 29, 2001
>>12595393I guess that's why resident evil won in the end
Eternal Darkness was on GC and it had depictions of suicides in baths of blood and loads of fucked up shit
>>12595393I almost wish this had happened if only because the first Silent Hill game is criminally underrated. >>12595415>>12595414Exceptions don't make the rule.
>>12595415ED is a childish "horror" like Resident Evil.
>>12595458>the first Silent Hill game is criminally underrated. Silent Hill is critically acclaimed by literally everyone, what the fuck are you talking about?
>>12595393Konami around 2000-2001 were deep-throating Sony pretty hard, I assume some informal exclusivity or bankrolling by Sony took place. They cancelled their entire DreamCast slate near release just to promote a PS2 announcement trailer and ported most of it to the PS2, and the way Kojima talks about MGS2's launch Sony is so involved it almost seems like a first-party game. They also announced a PES for the GC/PS2 then announced the European version will be PS2 exclusive, and GC would only get it in America, known for its love for soccer, even that Dance Dance Revolution was published by Nintendo and basically Nintendo licensing the franchise from them.
>>12595469Might just mean how most of the focus is on 2. If you just mention "Silent Hill" a lot of people will immediately go to 2 rather than 1. And even within the SH fanbase, it wasn't that rare for people to become rabid cultists saying 2 is a perfect game and getting overly defensive and aggressive about it while saying 1 was a terrible game.
>>12595469He just wants to pretend that sh1 is an underground title or some shit lmao. anything that sold a million copies is popular enough
>>12595414won what? DEmake and Zero/10 were flopsan RE4 forced Capcom to break the ''exclusivity deal'' they had with Nintendo to port the game to the PS2 where it sold more copies than it did on the Shitcube
>>12595393i've been saying silent hill should have been on gamecube together with a bunch of other stuff instead of fucking crapcom five resident evilwould have been all different storywould have fit fine goddammit
>>12595848Not dying? Resident Evil is still alive and beloved and Silent Hill died with the fucking ps2
>>12595469People hate it now because it "aged badly" or some other retarded belief and have been waiting for a remake (which they won't play but watch a video essay about).
>>12595851>alivehow can you say SH died with the PS2 when it's the same for RE? RE7-9 are Resident Evil games as much SH f(lop) is a Silent Hill game >belovedah yeah beloved by faggots who never played the PS1 games, faggots who view RE as action TPS franchise not survival horror
>>12595851it took awhile but silent hill finally has a viable niche in the AA space. it's in resident evil's dust still of course but they can sell a few million copies and be fotm on twitch.
>>12595852>nowthe only period where I could imagine people hating the first sh would be ancient forum posters high on their own farts. oh the clunkiness inflicts every game in the series even sh2.
>>12595864Lol nigga silent hill is owned by fucking Konami, what do you mean AA?
>>12595871Are Konami even AAA anymore?
>>12595871I'm talking about bloober interactive and neobards entertainment developing them but you're probably right, AA game wouldn't have konami's marketing.
>>12595876>>12595878My bad I thought people were insisting that silent hill was an indie franchise or something again like it wasn't the 2nd biggest horror game ip Real indieReal underground lolI think when you're at the point that it gets a movie, and shitty mobile spinoffs we are past the point of mainstream slop
>>12595903>like it wasn't the 2nd biggest horror game ipThat was 25 years ago, unc.
>>12595921And it's the "games 25 years ago" board, nephew.
>>12595932kek nephew btfo
>>12595932You were replying to somebody asking "Are Konami even AAA anymore?"
>>12595773This, Konami's presence on Nintendo at the time was mostly just on GBA, meaning lower budget games and more importantly meaning a market Sony didn't care for at the time.
