It's free on the epic store. Any reason not to get it?
>epic store
>epigThat's enough reason, just download it from GOG Games or something
If you ever want to play it, if requires having ebin gay launcher chink spyware installed on your machine. Note: this is irrelevant if you run a Windows PC, might as well nab it

Grab it if you use epic, but also buy the physical release because it's dirtcheap. TR1 is a masterpiece. Funnily enough I was listening to some retro podcasts about TR 1 the other day and so many get filtered by the "shitty" controls. Literal skill issue. The controls are great, some of the best even to this day. People simply aren't able to grasp how to play the game. It's especially the running jump people complain about the most. Which is the easiest thing to do if you understand how. Walk to ledge you want to jump from, one hop back, run and jump at the same time. The jump will be perfect every time. When you need to do a jump while running without stopping at the ledge, watch Lara's feet. The jump isn't delayed arbitrarily, but she needs to have a foot on the ground. Another big filter is the save crystals. I think it works great. Another one is the puzzles being hard. If I can do it without looking up anything, anyone can. TR1 is one of the greatest games ever made. The other ones range from good (even angel of darkness is good now that so much stuff was fixed in the remastered version) to great.
>>12595398I don't know. I saw some Anons complain they ruined the controls by "modernizing" them. Don't know what they meant but they weren't happy.
It's "free" at the cost of using epic store
Stuck in 2 titles unskipable tutorial levels that makes now only one gaem vs 2
>>12595571The remastered release have both original and modern controls. Modern controls really don't work or jive well tho because all the platforming is made with the tank controls in mind. The 1-3 and 4-6 are actually really great remasters. Also it's still getting content updates like costume rewards for clearing challenges and such.
>>12595398TRX just released v1.7 and now all of TR1-3 including the expansions are playable in it. If you grab this you should just use the assets for TRX, which has had way more care put into it than the remaster, which was a rushjob. The killer feature is save crystals for TR1, TR3, and even TR2--they extracted the TR2 save crystal locations from a beta build that still had them in the map data. The remaster doesn't have save crystals at all outside of a stupid and janky NG+ mode. What I love most, though, is that you can play all of TR1-3 with the N-Gage TR1 Lara model. The only downside to this port is the QOL/options bloat, you have to turn off some shit like sprinting in TR1 and TR2, which is enabled by default for no good reason.https://github.com/LostArtefacts/TRX
>>12595579what's wrong with the epic store?
>>12595398Go ahead and grab it but the remasters are a textbook example of soul vs soullless. Also note that the original versions (can still find them on GOG I think) look better with maxed settings than the classic mode does in the remasters, so those are still the definitive way to play the classic series. Anyone saying you only need the remasters hasn't played both.
>>12595897I should add that the remasters are still worth playing but only if you're curious to see what they changed. In some cases they actually interpreted the original graphics incorrectly and made new textures that were completely wrong for what it was supposed to be. Best examples I can think of is the Atlantean bacon slab in Lara's basement got turned into a throw rug in the remaster/ There are others like the half-mermaid genetic experiments in The Lost Artifact being modeled in the remasters as humans in raggy clothes. They got a lot of things wrong. The lighting is also soulless af and kills the mood of a lot of areas. Worth playing once maybe but they're not proper replacements for the originals.
>>12595774This is the sort of thing I was looking for, thanks
>>12595891Don't expect any sort of logic or reasoning from steamfags. They still think they actually own their games.
>>12595774I went and read the GitHub page. What's the big difference? This and remaster seem roughly the same.
Nope. The pirate chuds won't be able to play their games on the subscription computing while you will legally own a good game.
Imagine defending save crystals
>>12595398>Epic storeSeems like a good enough reason
>>12596171The remasters put 100% of their efforts into the AI-textured graphics modes. You have to install a mod just to get 60fps interpolation in the classic graphics mode. With TRX you get 60 fps, save crystals, and enhancements like Lara's braid being restored in TR1. The remasters also suffer from having virtually no options menu - if you want to play with PSX FOV/fog distance, or the original TR1 jumping mechanics, you just can't.

my zoomer sister beat TR1 with tank controls and I'm pretty proud of her for thatshe also beat most of TR2 but some switch game came out so she forgot about itstill pretty good to see that girls still find old Lara cool enough to play her games
>>12596426I'll give it a shot. Do you know if the classic versions of the games you can still get off GoG work just fine for it?
>>12596850The GOG release has all the data you need. I think the setup installer will autodetect it, but I've always copied the files over manually.
OP here I already have like 20 free games I’ve grabbed from the Epic Store since launch so one more doesn’t make a difference, I originally got the client for Metro Exodus back when it was Epic exclusive. I usually pirate games from a certain Russian forum and don’t use either store frequently so not sure what the issue is. I’m just going to play on TRX though like that anon said.
