Sometimes this game pops in my mind, I never finished it (legit without cheats), I played at a time when all my games came in the game magazine and many of those game I always played them because I didn't have any better and because I bought them. Maybe I'll relay this game I saw it on steam and maybe it's not a bad RPG

Read any letter written during the civil war.
>>
>>12596108
the gettysburg movie is much much believable on the dialogue front. doesn't make sense what changed since it's basically the same people that made/wrote both films
>>
>>12596080
the full game was actually rly fun, in general, nvm for some literal who licensed game
hilarious VAing. rly big world too with a ton of reactivity to its time travel mechanic

i remember i found a glitch where if you tabbed out of the game while jumping, then tabbed back in, you could get this super long jump that could sometimes clip through walls or OoBs

This is the way jackson wrote.
https://jessicajamesbooks.com/civil-war-love-letters-from-stonewall-jackson/
Considering gods and generals is basically the stonewall jackson movie, the dialogue they gave him makes sense.

It was OK, but Challenge of the Ancient Empires is the absolute best of the Super Solvers series.

I had the CD-ROM version of Ultimate Domain/Genesia. It got a 1/5 from CGW, but I had fun with it. Brutal learning curve, then it becomes piss-easy to dominate the AI. If you get balloons first, it's all over since you can carpet bomb all opponents out of the game.

Also had fun with a demo of Army/Campaign, a little DOS shareware game by some random guy. Turn based strategy civil-war style game where you used dice rolls to determine how many spaces you could move.

Stonewall Jackson was dead before Getrysburg. General Jackson wanted to go on the offensive using the monentum of his crushing success in the Shenendoah Valley. Gen. Lee and Pres. Davis held him back.

Andrew Jackson was an autistic genius when. A rags to glory story that should inapire us all

I finished watching this film only last Sunday. Even if you put the controversies aside, it's a very bland film that doesn't improve on the experience of going to a re-enactment in person. There's not a single arc in its 5 hour plot, if T.J. Jackson's death was shown at the start of the film the non-contribution of his subplot to the story wouldn't be different in any way (even he argued it was the brigade that was called "Stonewall"). If your response to that is "ACTUALLY his subplot shows his private life and participation in the Civil War, it's more than a re-enactment" then you will have to answer to the controversies because, for example, the film completely leaves out the fact that he owned slaves (and was known to be a strict master.) His death is also boring, he just got shot by his own for no reason.
Even Gettysburg has an arc - R.E. Lee is shown to be at the peak of his powers at the head of an invading army and proud of it, then he make mistakes and his man management lets him down, he gets angry at his subordinates, before recognising a military defeat on the field and asking his men for forgiveness. We know that after that battle he was on the backfoot for the rest of the war. That's an arc, it also wisely focuses the entire film on just one battle rather than force the viewer to watch a misleading depiction of Lee's private life. Also Martin Sheen played the role significantly better than wooden Duvall.
Anyway I heard G&G the game also sucks.

you correctly described why the movie sucked. The main reason SC Gwynne wrote his books is because Shelby Foote and Jeff Shaara’s books are so fucking bland. SC Gwynne really captured the subject matter in his books. His books are just that much better.

Southern born here. Visited every battlefield. Spent my 10 year wedding anniversary in Natchez and Vicksburg. Visit the Shenendoah Valley once every two years. The movie was not good. Yet I still watch it because it was the best one ever made.

What's the best civil war movie in your opinion? The battle of the crater sequence in Cold Mountain was pretty neat
>>
>>12596674
Not that guy, but I always like Glory as a kid. The director even reused scenes from it to make The Last Samurai. Other than that, Outlaw Josey Wales and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly make pretty good use of the Civil War as a setting. Even though they're basically just Westerns. Cold Mountain's Crater Sequence is probably the best part of the movie. The rest of it is a pretty grim "O Brother Where Art Thou."
Everything made after 2009 is Agit-Slop.
I've also seen The Horse Soldiers and Major Dundee. I like that Major Dundee touches on the "Albion's Seed" theory that the Civil War is just a continuation of the English Civil War.

Fraid not. I liked that they portrayed how the North thought the regiment was a gimmick and refused to give them socks and or pay them full wages. The war in recent years has been re-branded into the 1800's version of Anti-Fa vs. the Nazis. It's to remind people that the North and South weren't that far apart on that issue.
If it were made today, there would be a sassy girlboss telling Col. Shaw what to do. And the battle for Fort Wagner would've ended with Denzel's character saying Black Lives Matter before suicide bombing the fort.

I remember not liking it back in the day. Didn't feel like a real Tycoon game but more puzzle game. I should give it a second chance. I have a bunch of other games from the tycoon genre like Oil Tycoon, Ski Resort Tycoon, Moon Tycoon to name a few.

For years, it was the best civil war game. American Civil War games are a relatively newer thing, there has been a resurgence of interest. Even then, the overwhelming majority of them are absolute shit. Gettsyburg! and Antietam! are still on list of best war games to this day.

I would say they are still worth playing if you're a wargame fan or wannabe grognard.

i want to post Battlezone (1998) but i checked the archives and doesn't seem that obscure here. i still think overall it's a very overlooked game. most people know of Battlezone from the original wireframe arcade game, but the 1998 game, despite having no subtitle, is not a remake and is very different to the original game.
it's one of the earliest games i can remember playing where you could actually get in and out of vehicles (i think the first for me was Interstate '82, which might qualify for this thread as well). mix in RTS elements as well and this was a very unique game, at least as far as i knew at the time

One of the wildest thing about the good the bad and the ugly is how sympathetic they make the South feel. Almost borderline disrespect the northern army in the next to final scene w the drunk commander but he’s just literally going insane over the situation. Top ten movie for me.
