Apparently, Windows 11 24H2 deprecated DirectSound support, so you now need a wrapper to play old games with this API. This affects all RenderWare games (GTA3, VC, SA for example).

win7 chads cant stop winning

I like how my game consoles play the games the exact same way they did 20+ years ago. You have to obsessively check all your PC games to stay on top of this.
>>
>>12596089
You can just use Linux, Proton doesn't care about all these API changes. Valve unironically saved PC gaming.
>>
>>12596078
Could you even play those games on Win10 or even 7 for that matter? I'm talking non-Steam versions.
>>
>>12596094
>Valve unironically saved PC gaming
steamies really are the worst, almost as bad as nintendrones
>>
>>12596098
Why not? It's the same x86 architecture. And they still work, you just need one of the wrappers listed on that page. Which could be a hurdle for less PC literate people.
>>
>>12596114
You sound like a massive brown coded faggot

T. only has 4 titles in his steam library
>>
>>12596118
I tried running GTA3 (a retail disc copy) on Windows 7 a few years ago and it wouldn't launch. So most likely the same issue. So it isn't a Win11 issue. It's a Windows past XP issue.
>>
>>12596134
Could be a DRM issue, many old disk based DRM's don't work past Vista, as their drivers are not signed.
>>
>>12596137
That too, I guess.
>>
>>12596134
As another anon said, Windows (rightfully) dropped support for disc-based DRM due to security issues. You'll have to track down a No-CD crack. Otherwise the game will run fine.
>>
>>12596163
>Otherwise the game will run fine.
At least until a Windows update causes a bug to manifest due to undefined behavior caused by sloppy game code. In SA the Skimmer won't spawn after a certain of Win11 update.
>>
>>12596163
>track down a No-CD crack
That was likely the first thing I tried. I think there was more to it going on. Seems like a few of those games that really don't want to play outside of 98 or XP.
>>
>>12596168
Technically, it does spawn it, just a few light-years out of range.
>>
>>12596118
Windows 10 you have to do too much shit.
Win7 just disable dep, run as admin and call it a day done!!

they'll do this for everything because you need to buy the latest and greatest goyim

What's the alternative, should the OS be a Swiss army knife of old API's? People always bitch about bloat.
>>
>>12596263

it's not like windows is 100gb. it's no big deal.

They should stop abandoning old API's every week in favour of new abstraction layers for said API's. How about that?
>>
>using 10/11

>>12596089
No you dont you retard, most games work out of the box from win xp - 8, and if not usually only need a few Lil files to get it working

>>12596098
Of course

>>12596119
Not him but "browns" are the ones that would use steam the most

>>12596134
Like other anon said, just use a no cd crack

>>12596168
I don't know about 10/11 but never happened to any game on pre-10 Windows

God what made all of you people so retarded?

>>12596375
True, however, Steam let's console rejects in to PC gaming, just look at how many of them have complete trust in the "steam version" of something working simply because steam does everything for them. When something isn't on there they whine because Le everything is shady viruses!!11, there's also the constant whining about controls not working when practically anything can be played with keyboard and mouse (and usually works better)
>>
>>12596089
What does this mean? Are you using the exact same computer that you did 30 years ago?
>>
>>12596314
Are modern gens so retarded that they think wifi is a new thing only available on latest winblob? I wonder that since wifi is something available on anything from 2 decades ago, the only thing you need is a low resource antivirus, firefox esr and call it a day you will be browsing internet on windows XP, but retards devs put those win10 checks to make sure you send them data for their updates along location.

To think Linux actually has better support at this point.
>>
>>12596078
I already slap dgvoodoo2 and xidi on every old PC game I play so another wrapper isn't the end of the world.
I'm still sticking with 10 as long as I can.

Windows offering that is why it stayed dominant for so long

Please leave the commentary about Linux to /g/, they aren't as retarded as you and don't make Linux users look as bad as you are doing.
>>
>>12597125
I don't need to tinkertranny with Linux to run old Windows games, sorry. Meanwhile on Windows you have to download all these DLLs from sketchy websites and watch all of them break after each update anyway.

Generally older sticks were manufactured with much better pots. My DualShock 1 is older than I am yet it's still got no drift after decades of continuous use. I think Microsoft popularised the cheaping out of potentiometers because all my Xbox and 360 controller have drift up the ass.
>>
game seems to work by installing it through a win XP VM and plugging DGVoodoo into it (DDraw.dll D3DImm.dll D3D8.dll), along with some compatibility fixes on the exe (like color and windowed mode) . I had problems installing it raw on the Win10, but I didn't want to run it through a win xp vm so this is the best solution I found. Peixoto did not work at all, didn't even launch. Before adding DGVoodo, it complained about some missing images which seemed to be the colors so I changed it to 16bits.

Outsourcing and offloading software development to Indians is going to be considered one of the most catastrophic historical failures of the 21st century.

I reinstalled windows only because of ease of use and at the very least windows has compatibility with it's own fucking software, but now Microdick can't even get that right. Back to mint I go I guess.
>>
>>12597136
PC hardware has those same or equivalent issues.
>>
>>12596078
Just emulate the console versions at that point.
>>
>>12597136
>clock cap explodes
>disc drive laser burns out
Then I just use one of my many spare consoles.
>memory card battery dies
Which is why you back things up by transferring it to files on a PC which you can then take back to a fresh memory card.
>CRT television kicks the bucket
My CRT is still going strong, and seriously why don't you have multiple?
>thumbstick starts drifting
You seriously don't have a friend who runs a small hardware business who can take them apart and fix them for you, while giving you friend prices?

>>
>>12596078
Why the fuck would anyone want windows11. Its shit. We all know its shit. It's run and organised by fucking indians and only ever seems to make everything worse.
I'll run windows 10 with the bloatware removed till the day I'm forced to use Linux
>>
>>12596078
Have they any idea that will lead more people to Linux and Wine?
>>
>>12596078
directsound was neutered back in 2007 when vista stopped supporting hardware sound acelleration (killing directsound3d surround sound and leaving only basic software stereo sound). if you cared about sound you haven't been using directsound as-is since then
>>
linux/wine chads win again
