Now that GTAIII & GTA:VC have finally been ported, what other games that should have been on DC all along would you want next?

halo

SA2B
>>

The obvious choices would be ones that probably were meant to be 1st party Dreamcast titles but the ported elsewhere after Sega killed it off prematurely like...
Monkey Ball
Virtua Fighter 4
Jet Set Radio Future
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Billy Hatcher
Gun Valkyrie
etc

Could Dreamcast handle ports of Yakuza 1 & 2? I don't see why not. Neither of them are doing anything especially fancy or demanding.
>>
i don't understand this whole 'porting games to a platform they were never released on' thing
the reaction of literally every single person is 'huh, thats kinda neat' and then they'll go on with their lives and never think about it again

What did he mean by this?
>>
>>12596546
Because non poorfags actually play their retro games on real retro hardware instead of slumming it with emulators so enjoy additional games for their platform of choice.
>>
>>12596547
I won't say it's impossible but seems unlikely to me because Dreamcast has half the RAM of the PS2. It already seems like a miracle that Vice City works.

You'd be surprised what clever programming from 25 years of accumulated knowledge on the hardware's in & puts and no corporate deadlines can accomplish. Here's a VF4 tech demo someone recently made on Dreamcast. It's not playable yet but fingers crossed it can be done. https://youtu.be/fVlUsfcTIQg?si=p05Q7lYt8ht3z36U

Joke's on you it's made from the source code of the PC Port officially released in 2002 which makes it real retro software. Just admit you'd rather be playing Genshin Impact or Zenless Zone Zero or whatever microtransaction riddled weeb goonerslop and head back to /vg/ where you belong

Dreamcast is basically a PC hardware extremely streamlined and easy to program for so there is little room for optimisation unlike custom based console like PS2 or 5th gen consoles

No way you guys actually like this shit? This might be one of the gayest, faggiest, fruitiest, queerest, more homosexual games ever produced by a major company. Even toddlers would find this unbearably GAY.

These videos aren't ports in progress or "port previews," that is a misnomer. There is just a guy who is working on a very capable Dreamcast engine who has been loading models from other games into it to test and show off. It's a very cool project and I'm excited to see what kind of game they actually want to make with it, but it won't be any of the games from these "tech demos" that have been coming out lately.

just because it's easy to program doesn't mean there's little room for improvement—just look at the PS1

>>
>>12596597
Oh, so you're just ignorant of what is going on in the porting scene. It's not primarily about PS2 backport hackjobs, that's just a cool curiosity that proves the Dreamcast is very capable. The ports that people are most excited to actually play are improved versions of Saturn or N64 games with enhanced T&L, 480p, 60FPS, not to mention features like online crossplay matches in Sonic R. Or OOT with more than 15 frames per second average.
>>
>>12596494
apparently these should have released on the dreamcast

Ninja Gaiden
Fable
Halo

we don't talk shit about Billy Hatcher here
>>
>>12596723
Hey, show Billy Hatcher some respect
>>
>>12596494
I’m very hesitant to refer to these as ports. If they were commercially released, they’d be savaged by critics for being extremely buggy ports.
>>
>>12596616
>You'd be surprised what clever programming from 25 years of accumulated knowledge on the hardware's in & puts and no corporate deadlines can accomplish.

Then it’s not a real port. Prove that you could’ve put these games on Dreamcast using circa 2001 PC hardware or GTFO.
>>
>>12596559
>Physical hardware fags enjoy more games people who emulate

Huh?
>>
>>12597229
Probably somewhat true. Just look at the handheld general. They spend countless hours setting up their front-ends and tweaking emulator settings. I wonder how many games they actually end up playing.
>>
>>12596494
I’ve seen /vr/ shitpost about these so called ports plenty of times, but I’ve never once seen any proof that anyone on this board has personally played them on actual Dreamcast hardware.
>>
>>12597235
The people who post here wouldn't know how to compile an up to date version of any of these ports anyway, and will probably end up judging some ancient buggy test version that shouldn't exist.

halo is a hard one to pin down, because it changes a lot during development, it started as an RTS, was planned at various points to have versions of DC, PS2, Windows, and Macintosh, and only really went full xbox because microsoft needed some launch titles so bought bungie.
it was a different game around when dreamcast was a target, i'm not sure DC and PS2 were even targets by the time was being finished off, near the end aiming to be a Mac exclusive with a Win version a bit later

i guess MS saw macworld '99 and thought that'll do for their directX BOX project
>>
>>12599672
-- oh and Oni was being developed around the same time, the fact that only got a PS2 release suggests Halo on dreamcast was pretty unlikely to have happened even without microsoft getting involved, Halo was already scaled back for the xbox (it was an open world game before 2001)
>>
>>12599251
It will be in 6 months. Feel old yet?
>>
>>12600085
"20 years old" != "retro". but no, the xbox 360 being over 20 years old makes me feel older than the wii being over 20 years old (soon). the wii hardware wise is likeif the gamecube came out a year after the xbox instead, basically the same thing but just bit more. a bit more megahertz, a bit more ram... identical otherwise
