Pink Sweets and Muchi Muchi Pork are the best looking Yagawa games in my opinion. They're very colorful and pretty to look at. Also you don't get to see chubby pig girls very often, even the Japanese think's it's a little weird. Architects rejoice.They're a good mix of CAVE and Yagawa. If I remember correctly CAVE saw Battle Garegga and saw the brilliance of it and hired this guy because he was a world-class shmup designer. This is probably how and why CAVE was so damn dominant in the SHMUP genre. They consistently have like 5 out of 10 best shmups of all time. Ketsui, Mushihimesama, Deathsmiles, the DoDonPachi series, the list goes on. Hands down, head and shoulders above the competition.

Regarding OP’s question, I suspect the game just shipped way too early without enough playtesting, probably to make up for CAVE’s recurring financial woes. I heard the 360 port has an arranged mode that fixes almost everything, and there’s also a fan-made hack that came out in the last couple years which totally rebalances the game.
