The final game with the soul of old Square
>>12597180>The final game with the soul of old SquareNo that was FF10Kingdom hearts is mid
>>12597180Bad game. Gay concept.
>every once in a while play a new Critical run>always have a wonderful time>always feel a bit of melancholy as I know where the series goes, how mid it becomes, and how there's no way Disney won't strong arm Square into making half the cast gay and breaking up Sora and Kairi because straight romance can't exist unless it's cuckoldry on some wayI just wish 3 would have ended it and let a new cast take over, but considering that nip fans said the story was the main reason they are sticking around, after 2 it was written as a story that was never meant to end.
>>125971801, 2, and 3 should have all been released on PS2, closing off the "main story" cleanly.
halfway through the game and I'm getting rocked by the silhouettes on lv1 crit
>>12597180>Disney slopThe most soulless game imaginable. If it didn't bait people with the idea that Final Fantasy would get the same treatment it gives to sucking off Disney it wouldn't have sold anything at all.
>>12597193One is a serviceable enough little action, rpg, platformer. It strikes a weird note between a jrpg and a disney movie and the characters are very likable and believable. 2's story becomes a lot more "anime" with Sora acting less like an actual kid or teenager and instead a Goku (from super) like figure. Still, what really makes the game shine is the Critical mode. They spent a year fine tuning the games difficulty and really made it something special and somewhat deep even getting close to the likes of DMC3 and Ninja Gaiden Black. There's a canon and important GBA entry that's a fun little card arpg and that has a surprisingly deep and dark story. It's worth playing if you end up liking one. If you juat can't stomach 1 though, still jump to 2 and give Critical a go.
>>12597195Pre-2000 Disney was pure soul. Unfortunately the world went to shit some time after that. The last worthwhile thing with the name Disney on it was Toy Story 3 (actually Disney/Pixar but whatever)
>>12597193It's basically a shounen story with disney filling/themes and it's all played completely straight. If you can tolerate the mixture they're on the better end of action rpgs, which turns out to be a terribly disappointing genre but that's another discussion
>>12597198And if you end up liking everything up to 2, give 358/2 a go. It's story feels closer to a japanese radio drama, but it does a great job at building up the relationship of 3 likable characters then ruthlessly dashing it apart in a fashion you wouldn't expect from a Disney licensed game. After that it gets hard to recommend any titles. BBS is where the second face of the story starts and feels somewhat similar to Sekiro on Crit. The Story starts getting real pants on head here and feels like it's a bad knockoff of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. 3DS is... just bad. There's one scene in the game that's sort of feelsy, two cool boss fights, but the rest feels horribly phoned in.3 uses a lot of mechanical from 3DS and BBS and is a completely different (and worse) experience to 2. Disney interfered with one of the main worlds and it shows. Gone is the beautifully crafted 3d animation and now you get mocap for the most part. The story is meaningless till the very end when it suddenly remembers it needs to close up everything and does it all at once. Oh, and then there's the DS remake of the phone game thats name is escaping me. It's very experimental. There's some fun here and there, but it's pretty meh.I think that about covers everything.
>>12597209I really need to just turn off autocorrect.
>>12597191Hope you're doing good against Lexaeus at least, he's by far the easiest silhouette.
>>12597259I bet you'll like it more than you're expecting. It's how it goes for most people. Just learn how to laugh at the absurdity and enjoy it when the melodrama actually slips into "good" territory. Oh, and play 1 on regular. It's challenging enough on the base difficulty and Proud difficulty is not as widely loved as Critical. Now that I'm thinking about it, stay away from the PS2 version of Chain of Memories too, at least for the initial playthrough. The game is pretty divisive on if it managed to transfer the GBA's gameplay successfully into 3D. My recommended order:>1 on normal>Chain of Memories GBA>2 on Critical (bear with it for the prologue and Beauty in the Beast world. After that you get a lot of combat skills to actually handle the difficutly)>358/2 >end it here if your satisfied, maybe watch the endings for your favorite characters on youtube.Play the rest only if you get deep into the tism, but be ready for them never to reach the heights of 2 and be increasingly disappointing.
>>12597184FF10 was where old Square died.
>>12597282Oh, and also also (sorry, keep thinking of sfuff), grab the translated Final Mix versions of the isos for 1 and 2 if you aren't playing the re-released collection. if you aren't going to 100% them, watch the secret endings before jumping to the next game just because they are neat, unfiltered early 2000's edge.
>>12597310Yuuuup, that's the exact feeling that finally got me to give them a go. Had them on the backburner forever as I just remembered loving the trailers that played during toonami. When I finally was in the mood for them it was awesome. Hope you enjoy your time with them! Honestly, just talking about it has me wanting to replay them myself so I might be joining you in the metaphysical sense.
I wasn't a Disney kid and put this series off until adulthood but the gameplay of 1 and 2 is actually great. I even like the command deck games (ReCoded, BBS, 3D). I finally caved and purchased III fucking days before the Steam version was announced and I was so assmad I still haven't played it. >>12597209>DS remake of the phone gameThat's ReCoded and even though the story is utterly irrelevant, I love the gameplay for the most part. The turn based world was kino
>>12597180Nomura is such a hack. Hot topic ass motherfucker
>>12597342All we need is somebody to make the shirts.>>12597375Oh yeah, that's why I said it was neat and experimental. I think that was the Hercules segment you're talking about. I also liked how it handled the difficulty. And 3 is "okay". Problem is it shares very, very little DNA with the previous games and even the core gameplay is virtually nothing like 2 anymore. The story also has some of the worst pacing I've ever seen and you can definitely feel Disney's cold hand on their shoulders as they wrote it. I'd say it's still a 7ish out of 10, but it's definitely one of the low points in the series. I feel like 4 is gonna be real rough.
>>12597180It says "Square Enix" right there.
>>12597375>>12597910If you do end up playing 3 crit, this is the kind of gameplay you'll want to emulate:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WticWFXteg0&pp=ygUYRGFyayByaWt1IGtoMyB3aXRoIHN0eWxlShot lock becomes your cancel and works as a sort of bullet time to give you breathing room, but you'll be using it a lot which sorta breaks the flow of combat.
>>12597937Oops, I read that wrong. Thought you hadn't played it yet. As for me, got the isos loaded up on the steam deck and playing Final Mix 1 now. It'll be neat to see some of the differences in the lost code/character models... that is, if that wasn't just a made up story to censor the game.
>>12597910>And 3 is "okay". Problem is it shares very, very little DNA with the previous games and even the core gameplay is virtually nothing like 2 anymoreWhy do people who don't play games post here? 3 pulls from almost every single game in the franchise and you can feel each games influence onto 3. >The story also has some of the worst pacing I've ever seenIt is far better than 2s which is just wandering around doing nothing until end game, the mid point barely affects the plot of the game. You guys gotta actually play KH before you try to pretend like you're a fan. This whole thread is like I'm reading posts transplanted from /v/, disgusting, all of you.
>>12598604>>>/khg/
>>12597186We knew Sora and Riku were gay for each other as early as KH1.
>>12599076I love how Nomura dedicates a whole DLC specifically to Sora and Kairi and their various hand holding shenanigans as well as has Sora spend his last moments with the person closest to him... yet fujos and fags still refuse to let go of their head canon.
>>12597193KH1 is simple but kino.KH2 has way deeper better combat but retarded deviantart fanfiction story. They're both great. You can get the HD Final Mix compilation containing both of them on PS4.
>>12599125facts don't matter to the mentally ill
>>12597209358/2 is the game that killed the franchise for me. Going strait from 2 to 358/2 gives you whiplash: the worlds are tiny, repetitive, the boss fights sucks and most missions are lame. Worst of all if the story, which takes arguable the coolest antagonist and just turns them into mindless automations. Yeah, they still are snarky and quip, but they literally just do the same thing day in and day out because Saix says so. They just all come off as retarded. The main trio dynamic moves at a snails pace and you can see any tension coming a mile away. It’s by far the worst in pacing compared to all the games that come before.Don’t get me wrong, it has a nice moment here and there, but 90% of the game and story is a slog just to get to the 10% of good content buried in the crap. Also I enjoyed the tile system. But this is far from a good game. I guess fans can hype of the story if they want (watch a YouTube video instead), but the game is simply not fun to play at all.
>>12599193I really like the leveling system of 358/2 Days. A shame it's trapped behind a bad game.Same with Coded and its Command Deck. Mediocre game, but the Command Deck is at its best there (whereas in BBS and DDD it was awful).
