C64 has better colors but unfortunately runs a tiny bit slower in heavier parts. In 1985 it would still be the best version because it would have fit in a disk though, no need to pay 10x more for a cartridge. Plus it had at least 15KB of extra space, allowing devs to add more content. Just like how C64 Elite port had more stuff.

It actually slows down when there are more than 3 enemies on screen, since each enemy in SMB performs collision, acceleration, and gravity simulation, straining the CPU. C64 has a weaker CPU (1MHz due to RAM refresh and GPU accessing shared memory) but a more powerful GPU than NES. Breaking blocks won't make it slow down. C64 handles a lot more sprites than NES games, but heavy simulation bogs it down.

But of course nin toddlers don't understand how shit works.
