You DID play standalone Sonic & Knuckles, right, /vr/?
I only played it standalone because I when I attached Sonic 3 to S&K I thought it just did nothing but passthrough S3.

>>12597445I did, but there's absolutely no reason to other than the neat Knuckles intro. The Lock-On is basically just a patcher that updates and "completes" Sonic 3 to the Sonic & Knuckles codebase. The patched level design is overall better and has less of those infamous "diabolical traps" that came from Sonic 3 being a literal McDonalds rushjob. There is some value in playing Sonic 3 standalone I guess if you want the rougher level design, music, and Sonic/Tails Big Arms.(Also I didn't play Sonic & Knuckles to even know about the Lock-On until years later.)
No, but I played over a hundreds level of the Knuckles + Sonic 1 lock on; basically until I knew all the patterns the randomizer uses to generate levels.
