The second Mario game is good.
The final fantasy spin offs are really good.
I know there are more solid games but that's what comes to mind easily. Parodious is fun.
>>
>>12598423
Most of the Mega Man games are good.

>full-fledged Wizardry game
>has some of the unironic best dungeon layouts not just in Wizardry, but in DRPGs as a genre
>>
it has some good arcade ports. quarth and qix are fantastic, as are the williams classics ports. i spent many an hour as a child playing defender and galaga on my dmg.
also kirby in dreamland is the best in the series. some of the later ones are still good, but they're all a downgrade from the original.

anything further, while a nice amenity, is unnecessary for a blobber

They didn't have to make the battle theme so fucking good, easily the best normal battle theme from the whole Wizardry series

Legend of the River king is so fucking hard. I can't catch a single fish.
>>
>>12598538
You'll get the hang of it, it's actually the easiest and most simple of the series. Check the manual for fish locations. Find a bait that works, then just reel, release and wait when fish fights back, and reel in again once it's stopped moving

i tried cave noir recently but found it too simple and repetitive. i imagine the 2 shiren games are straight upgrades but i don't think they've been translated

I've always been curious about this but it seems people tend to dislike it for whatever reason? Also I think the game is different if you play it on a regular GB?

>Batman TAS
Fun action game, the kind where you have to learn to play the one way the devs intended and you learn by dying and restart the game over because there are few lives.

>Bionic Commando
More of the same after the NES game but the grappling is more involved and challenging

>CV2
The only CV on GB that isn't a pile of shit

>DKL
Some people hate it but I love it, I think the controls are really tight. You'll be making lot's of blind jumps though especially if you want to 100% the game.

>FFA
Please take my tears to Lester.
Palm trees and 8... got it?

>FFL 1/2
Great pacing for RPGs, don't waste your time, and room for party customization

>Gargoyle's Quest
A middle ground between GnG like action with stiff movement and adventure elements

>Hammerin' Harry / Kid Dracula
Just your average action sidescrolling fare but with a lot of different events going on, great pacing too

>Kid Icarus / Operation C
Like Bionic Commando, it's basically more like the NES games

>Legend of River/Sea King
Very chill RPG fishing. Sea King got a fully translated version leaked during the Nintendo leaks.

>Mole Mania
action puzzler with very progressive difficulty that will require you to think while never pulling some bullshit that demands to use a guide

>Motocross Maniacs
Turbo turbo turbo jump loop turbo loop.. baby bike

>Ninja Gaiden Shadow
a cross between Ninja Gaiden and Shadow of the Ninja. Too easy though.

>TTA 2
Basic platformer, big sprites like SML2 but with the charm of TTA and decent amount of challenge. Protip; during the rope pulling, tap ALL buttons.

Donkey Kong (1994).
Mario is acktually a DK spinoff, you see.
I'm talking the first party sequel to the original arcade games, not Rare stuff.
There's the original levels at first for nostalgia, but it's actually an action puzzle/platformer from then out.

Honestly, it's much closer to SMB2 reimagined as a mobile puzzle platformer with DK as the villain. Similar physics, similar yet expanded moveset, similar slot machine except winnable.

Get the key to the door through an environmental puzzle. Frantic sprints come later, but only for variety.

As a mobile game, the levels are only a few screens each. Which is fine, as there's 101 levels.
Adequate to catchy soundtrack, silly cutscenes illustrating new gameplay elements, good boss fights, interesting passive boss interference, later levels made easier by or possibly requiring meta-abuse of physics.

It's the kind of game that makes you extra pissed off when "indie retro" games are so sloppy and shitty.

I hear there's actually been a similar "Mario vs DK" series since then with recent sequels but I've never played any of those.

>I hear there's actually been a similar "Mario vs DK" series since then with recent sequels but I've never played any of those.

There is one on GBA but when I watched a video and heard Mario's voice I NOPED the fuck out.
>>
>>12599518
DK 94 fuckin rules. The hand stand flip and sideways summersault are so slick to pull off. Jam packed with content too. The first mario vs dk on gba is mad good too, but after that the series is definitely hit or miss.
>>
>>12599525
Yeah his voice is grating in mario vs dk for sure, but the game is mad fun otherwise. Someone should make a mod that takes his voice out lmao
>>
>>12598423
I think metroid 2 is really fun, but ymmv. It doesn't have a map but the game isn't so huge as to really need one imo. Another good gb game is Dexter's laboratory. It's a reskin of elevator action, a Japanese arcade game, and it's perfect for pick-up-and-play. That one is gbc exclusive though, I'm not sure if you want to include those in your thread.

I'm playing through this series right now and it's great. The NES/SNES never having a Wario Land game is a definite advantage of the Gameboy.
>>
>>12599643
I played all 3 Wario games to death as a kid but honestly nowadays 2 bores me and I can't even bare to look at 3 anymore; while I still find 1 infinitely replayable and fun.
>>
>>12598487
I don't know where to go in this game
>>
>>12598423
nobody except the japanese made competent games for consoles back then. you need to understand, this was the dark ages of culture in america. all the cover art was traced too.
>>
>>12600896
that's the point, you explore.
>>
>>12600896
Always bring a mage for the map spell
Always check for hidden doors by pressing A against walls, you can find some pretty good shortcuts that way
>>
>>12598423
Currently playing through the DK country demake and it's a solid game. On world 3 and can't tell apart the vultures coconuts with the background but besides that it's solid
>>
>>12598465
Did you guys hear about Atari buying half of the Wizardry IP a few weeks back? Apparently, Atari bought the Llylgamyn Saga (1-5) rights while Drecom retains ownership of the Dark Savant Saga.
If Atari managed to score ownership of spin-offs like Gaiden, Summoner, Busin, and Dimguil, Digital Eclipse could develop one hell of a compilation.
