I remember back when I played Atari and I was like man all these games suck but I have nothing else to play I can’t wait for Nintendo to invent the NES so I can play some real games instead of this primitive slop that no one likes.

NES is when true gaming died. You can thank the 3rd generation for all of the cancer in modern gaming from cinematic bullshit to lootboxes.

lol moron-takes. SMB Arcade came after home. The US release of SMB on nes came after arcade, but the game was the same as Famicom's.

Already he doesnt know what he's talking about.

Well he's not very clear about it, when he says "when it moved from Arcade to NES" I think he's referring to Mario Bros vs Super Mario Bros.

What he's saying is for a "classic gamer" Mario Bros would be a never ending challenge, you can potentially keep playing for hours if you get good and it's non stop reflexes and challenge; and Super Mario Bros would be a story based graphics showcase that requires to pay for a tour guide to fully enjoy.

will give you good faith, but that old post was already in a revisionist state even that close to the NES's life. If all you are is a completionist, then what would you care about the gameplay quality? Your goal isn't the gameplay experience, its checking all the boxes.

Mario Bros is a platformer and has much more in common with Joust, sure. But SMB is not so dissimilar. Its a 32 level dash race and unlike his assertion, you do not need a tour guide/tip book to reach the end. And keep playing Mario Bros for hours but not SMB? If that was a point he was making, he was a twat then.

The problem is that people can't articulate correctly what the gameplay goals are back then and oftentimes now either. Is it to reach the-end? Is it a high score? and if it is score, why agree to that? Look at all the ways people play games now where they reject even something as mundane as a score value as the 'correct' measurement of successful gameplay.

>Machine Code.
>Raw, unadorned, inscrutable hexadecimal numbers.
>Directly.

This guy was a fucking idiot. Games were not made harder to sell hintbooks. Japans hintbook industry was thriving but it wasnt nintendo publishing those books, it was the mook industry. They were a byproduct of the famicoms success.

>The Super Mario Bros.: The Complete Strategy Guide (スーパーマリオブラザーズ完全攻略本) was a massive phenomenon in Japan. Published on October 31, 1985, by Tokuma Shoten, it sold over 600,000 copies in its first two months, becoming the overall best-selling book (excluding manga) in Japan for both 1985 and 1986

As for north America, Nintendo only published a single hintbook for the NES early in its life.

There were official hint magazines/hotlines too

>The Super Mario Bros.: The Complete Strategy Guide
Even if it is not published by Nintendo, they sure paid money to Nintendo to be able to use their names.
