I'm the biggest Martian Gothic fan on planet Earth. Let's talk about the game.
>>12599547If you can, install the pc version from Zomb's Lair. It's pre packaged to work perfectly on modern systems and includes controller support. I'd say that playing the PS1 versiln won't get you the intended experience since it's vastly inferior. It's missing character detail amd animations, certain enemy types, backgrounds are lower resolution, the enemy models lack variety in appearance and uniforms, voice lines and enemy telepathic lines are missing, some puzzles aren't as obvious because certain visual clues and animations are missing. Plus it has loading times between certain zones, while the PC version is one seamless map.
>>12599549Basically what I'm trying to say is that playing the ps1 version is like deciding to play a pc or ps2 game, but instead of the original you decide to play a third party GBA port instead of the original. Or something like that. PC is the definitive version of Martian Gothic.
>>12599547Too late budd, it has succumbed to disc rot.
>>12599537>it's a RE clone
>>12599573Yes, but while the gameplay and game design are inferior, the main story, lore, setting, atmosphere, sound design and writing are better than any Resident Evil. The only thing RE has over this game is core gameplay.
>>12599557PS1 doesn't have that shitty Whittaker fight, so nah, I'm good.
>>12599537really kino concept, I wish there was a movie that tackled this idea
>>12599537>Let's talk about the game.Nah, i'm not in the MOOD.
>>12599685Hard cheese...
>>12599590So everything that matters?
>>12599632That fight is nothing. It doesn't override every other issue that the ps1 port has, not even close.>>12599701I wouldn't go that far, since the core gameplay of Martian Gothic, including some of the puzzles are downright impossible without a walkthrough. I'm not gonna pretend that the game is perfect, far from it, but it does do everything else better to the point I personally prefer it to any resident evil.
>>12599537Is it like resident evil?
>>12599734It's a resident evil clone if there ever was one, the devs even said so. It was supposed to be a point and click adventure game when it started development in 1995. The next year RE came out and the publisher made them change it to a fixed camera survival horror game, while keeping the point and click style puzzles, which explains why they're so nonsensical and convoluted. It was in development hell for almost five years before Take2 gave them a deadline in 2000, causing them to rush finishing it. That's why the game starts so strong but gets progresively worse until by the end it's complete broken shit. It's painfully rushed and unifished.
>>12599867So why does OP like it so much then?
>>12599975Because>story and lore>setting>atmosphere>art direction>sound design>enemy design>writing >occasional snarky humor
>>12599537>I'm the biggest Martian Gothic fan on planet EarthI don't remember making this thread.Love this game with all its flaws. Also one of scariest games I ever played.
>>12601252Based fellow Martian Gothic chad. What do you think about this >>12599549
>>12599537I haven't played it years (rented it back in the early 2000s) but the impression I got was that it was like a really good sci-fi novel that they turned into a video game.
>>12601453I emulated and beat the PS1 version. I have the PC version iso though
I was impressed when a friend of mine beat the game, I can handle the gameplay issues fine, it's not my first rodeo with broken / unfinished survival horror, but the puzzles filtered me HARD.
>>12601456Well it was written and directed by Stephen Marley, who is a novelist in the vein of Clive Barker.>>12601526The two main things that filter people is the puzzles and unkillable Zombies. The latter really isn't an issue though, as you get more than enough ammo to deal with them throughout the game. For me the worst part is the paralisys extrudes in the Necropolis which insta kill you and are hard to hit.
