thoughts on this game? The combat is absolutely kicking my ass. Not sure if I am in the mood for another game where you start as a pissant that can't do damage
>>12600091i remember the combat being pretty easy once you get a distance creating combo. you can still get careless and die, which is frustrating if you want to just finish the gamenice to pick up and play on occasion and some of the best choices/consequences out there
>>12600098im confused by the balance system. There's a parry if you hold back while blocking, then theres a push if you are attacking while hes blocking, but theres also a push while you are blocking? I have to watch the tutorial video again its not clicking for me. Im on normal mode and every guy thats not a basic mook is kicking my ass and parrying everything i do.
>>12600091I had no idea this game existed. I guess I thought Ghost of Tsushima was the first "ronin" game. Am I victim of western propaganda?
>>12600091The spin-off is a lot more action oriented
>>12600140you're just a zoomer.
>>12600140you're just a zoomzoom. Even I knew about this game being a cult classic when it first came out and I was like 14 years old. I heard 2 is way better but i want to beat 1 first.
You can push forward or back whether you are attacking or blocking. When a sword hits a block, you play rock/paper/scissors. If the defender matches the direction of the attacker, he knocks the attacker off balances. Otherwise the attacker wins.Feel free to play on easy and build better swords before moving to higher difficulties, thats what I did.
>>12600173that makes much more sense than that oddly translated video thats included in the game, thanks buddy. Maybe im just a brainlet but I was getting really confused how the fuck it works
>>12600175For basic mooks, you can almost always push and knock them off balance. For named characters, they’ll learn what you lean towards and switch up pushing and pulling.Because of this, it’s better to learn your boss opponents moves and dodge-and-punish, rather than block and end up playing RPS with an AI.
>>12600189Also, I forget if the tutorial teaches you this, but the game has a perfect parry system. Parry on the exact frame of the attack to instantly stop an opponents attack. You can even perfect parry when you’re stuck in a combo or flying in the air.
>>12600198>diagonal input to side stepman im so used to soul calibur this is gonna fuck me up
>>12600198Is perfect parry the same as pressing back while blocking? They call that a "parry". Or do I have to press block at the perfect time
>>12600091A game that actually utilizes its shoestring budget to its fullest potential instead of being hampered by it, an art Acquire loses next gen. Honestly there's no shame in switching to easy until you get the hang of the combat. Also fun tidbit: there's a Japanese only complete edition rerelease that actually has English text available as an option. I never checked if the pre-rendered tutorial videos were translated or not but if worst comes to worst Youtube is there.
>>12600091woke garbage, in the first town you met a ngubu named Yosuke
>>12600142I'm playing this currently and honestly it kinda sucks. It's mostly just a brainless masher.WOTS as a series is much more interesting. The earlier games are very rough, though. I'd suggest starting with 3 or 4. I always wished we got a big budget version of WOTS, I really like the concept of a small, concentrated open world where the stories all change depending on your actions, with joinable factions, etc. It's such a cool idea and I hate that only WOTS tried to do it.
>>12600173Was it rock/paper/scissors? It's been many years since I played it, but I vaguely remember that you had to pull back if you got a heavy attack incoming and push if it was a normal attack. But I might be wrong. All I remember is that I could dodge attacks reliably once I understood the battle system.
>>12600357Rise of the Ronin is the closest you're going to get.
>>12600263shut the fuck up you fat retard
>>12600091way of the samurai, especially the first game, is kinda designed that you're going to eat shit on the first few runs of the game until you ng+ better swords you upgrade at the smith.in general the first game is really trying to be a kurosawa movie where swordfights are a big fucking deal and you want to avoid them if at all possible unless you're a gigachad grandmaster of the blade, which you wont be because the npcs are good at the surprisingly in-depth combat mechanics and will parry your ass.tldr: it's a samurai game, not a swordfighting game. the later games kind of move away from this though and become a lot more combat focused because that's more fun then walking a baby and asking people to stand down before getting killed by the japanese army
Cool ideia.Kinda boring overall.
>>12601246He is not totally wrong there is a black "samurai".He is also the restaurant girl love interest.
>>12600357I like WoTS4 for having the option of fucking the British girl.
>>12600091I remember this was seen as a surprisingly good game at the time but I never played it.
>>12600263>A fantasy game set in “historical Japan” is subversiveI just don't like you people
>>12602456sounds like it was really cool for 2002 but it sounds like I should probably skip to later titles because yeah I like combat more. The story really isn't that good to justify being story oriented
