been playing basically only GBA games for the past year and a half
however out of all the RPGs i finished, the only one i genuinely loved was Golden Sun: The Lost Age
most others bored me to death even if i completed them
what i liked about Golden Sun
>strong sense of adventure and world exploration
>great dungeons with actual puzzles using abilities instead of straight hallways like Mother 3 or FF6
>amazing music and visuals
>everything feels super snappy and fast, especially battles and menuing, love how quick introducing battle commands feel
>collecting all djinn was addicting
battles are maybe way too easy though, or maybe I was overleveled due to exploring everything
what i don't like about the other RPGs
>extreme slow pacing like Pokémon
>boring stories like Mario & Luigi, the timing-based combat there is decent but way too simple
what other RPGs would i probably enjoy? hopefully on the GBA?
maybe i've just lost patience for slow RPGs as i've gotten older?
action games like A Link to the Past still completely absorb me and make me lose track of time
maybe an action RPG?
are the other pre-Nintendo Camelot RPGs just as good?

You might like Shining the Holy Ark, dungeons have puzzles in them and exploration
>>
It's nothing like what you listed, but try Battle Network

I really enjoyed Riviera.
It's a strange mix of CYOA/dating-sim/RPG with a unique battle system.

If you also like TRPG, give the Fire Emblem games a try. Or Yggdra Union.

You might just hate RPGs at this point and only like Golden Sun. Which is fine but a very narrow sort of taste.

Flip that shit up, except for Mother 3 and it's acceptable.

Sounds like he prefers narrative heavy but not preachy heavy rpgs
>>
try Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars

At least he explained himself, if this was /v/ all he has to do is just post without context then deliver the payload of a shitpost by the first 5 posts

You should give the Summon Moon Swordcraft Story trilogy a shot. It's a very fun ARPG and lots of customization in it too.
As a matter of fact, get on it now, the translation of the 3rd game is finally going to be completed by likely this summer. That's decades and fucking JAIL time worth the wait.

>Shining the Holy Ark
It really looks and sounds like an older brother to Golden Sun, huh? I’ve never owned a Sega console before, but watching gameplay of this game on YouTube makes me want to get a Saturn as my first Sega console and seriously give it a shot.

>try Battle Network
well, the only thing I know about Mega Man is that I like the classic NES games, but since I’m exploring the Game Boy Advance library as much as possible, I guess I must give it a shot. Though I have a feeling Mega Man Legends on the PlayStation would appeal to me more, those games look really pretty.

>Yggdra Union
the spritework on this game looks amazing, like a sprite-based vanillaware/unicorn overlord game, however
>TRPG
it’s definitely not really the genre that entertains me the most usually, unfortunately. but i'll try it!
as a teenager I played a bit of Zone of the Enders on the PS2, mostly because I was drawn in by Yoji Shinkawa’s art direction, which I love. But the gameplay was kinda... eh... I guess I could give it a shot, though I’m not sure if it really fits my tastes

oh, it’s not bait, it’s absolutely what I think. I can understand why other people would think I have terrible taste... but I’m not saying the games in “boring” are bad either, they all have good qualities.

Mother 3 has an incredible soundtrack and amazing art direction, typical of a good salesman/marketer like Shigesato Itoi, I just don’t think the story is as good as people say. It’s way too surreal for my tastes, and once the fart jokes start, they completely lose me. Also, like I said before, the dungeon design is really barebones, and the combat is even easier than Golden Sun.

Final Fantasy VI feels like it takes its story way too seriously for how weak it actually is. It has way too many characters, and this isn’t really its fault, but visually I can’t shake the feeling that it looks like an RPG Maker game (even if technically it’s the other way around).

As for Pokémon, I was super into it as a kid, so maybe I just don’t have the patience anymore. If I were to replay a Pokémon game nowadays, I’d probably go back to the games from my teenage years like HGSS. In general, I find the DS generation easier to tolerate.

And Mario & Luigi... I hate how toddler-tier the writing/story is, despite the charm and the fast-paced action combat.

>Summon Night: Swordcraft Story
It really looks like the kind of game I could end up loving, definitely going on my list.

Damn, there’ve been some really good recommendations in this thread to my surprise, thanks anons.

Aria or Sorrow and Shining Soul 2 are the peak of ARPG on the GBA
as for turn based check out DQ Monsters Caravan Hearts (fan translated) and.... eh, well that's it, GBA RPG's were mostly mediocre shit or inferior version of games better on another platform (like Shining Force 1)
