So Sonic Team said they were sick of making Sonic games and that they weren't going to make one for the Saturn until they got their dream project out the door, and Sega just... let them do it? I don't hate NiGHTS, but imagine if Shigeru Miyamoto said "Eeeeh we're getting tired of making Mario games, just go give Mario 64 to the guys who made Hotel Mario while we go make Pikmin instead".

they obviously wanted sunshine to be a launch title dumb shit, but the game wasnt ready (even when it came out it was rushed) and nintendo had massive FOMO about the ps2 and xbox coming out first so they werent going to delay the cube any longer. yeah you can still blame nintendo for not getting their shit together in time but luigis mansion was never intended to be a flagship launch game. and in retrospect none of it mattered, no one even remembers the shitty ps2 launch games.

oh and sunshine and wind waker are both amazing games that only brown thirdies hate on. yes theyre worse than the 64 titles but still BTFO any games on brownstation jew in the same genre.

Wind Waker has a much more sophisticated plot while OoT ironically has even more slapstick and stylised character animations than the game that's meant to look like a bloody cartoon. Every Ocarina NPC pisses me off because they flail their arms around like they have fucking issues, I wish I could kill them all Elder Scrolls style. The idea that Ocarina is "dark" (let alone more so than Wind Waker) can only be the delusions of a mindbroken N64fag who's spent the last 30 years projecting something more grandiose onto Ocarina than the game actually corroborates.

That's not how it happened. Sonic was seen as STI's responsibility. When Yuji Naka moved back to Japan he wasn't involved anymore and had to make his own IP.

Ok fagalor, let me clarify; Ocarina of Time is both visually darker in a literal sense, and also just tonally darker. It's not edgelord dark or anything, but Wind Waker is light as a cloud by comparison. That's not say OoT is never goofy or anything, but shit like the redeads, the bad future castle town, the well, and so on put it on a different level than WW.

Not that big of a deal if Sonic X-Treme came out. Everybody knew not making a Sonic game would be a stupid decision. They just left the development to the burger dev team STI (without Naka), that had already developed Sonic 2, 3 and Spinball. However the burger team without being under the guise of the nips couldn't develop the game in time, and it was therefore cancelled. I hate Naka but it's not like he just went on to follow his artistic visions before helping SEGA with what they really needed at the moment.

The original was an arcade game. Short, focussed and the goal was to git gud and beat your high scores. The Wii sequel added cutscenes, missions, janky platforming sections and it caused the actual flying Nights traditional gameplay to fly by in a flash while the additions just seemed to drag.
It's far from terrible, I played it through twice and don't regret it. But it's not a good sequel
