As of last night I've finished Crash Bandicoot: Warped to my satisfaction (all gems, all time trials, all secrets. Could have gone for even better times on the time trials but I'm satisfied with what I got). Unlike Crash 1 or 2, I didn't have to look up any secrets other than the ultra-hidden bonus stages, which while nice kind of felt like the overall experience was sanded-down somewhat. Still I prefer it to 2, and probably put it on par with 1, which, while not a perfect game, was ultra satisfying to 100% due to the level of mastery it demands of you to do it.

Not sure I'll check out the PS2 games for a long time, as I'm still exploring the PS1 library. Not sure what I'll play next, either. What are your thoughts on Crash 3 and on the ps1 Crash trilogy as a whole?

As a kid it was cool to do all those gimmick levels.
As an adult? I wanted to play a 3D platformer, but Crash 3 has more gimmick levels than platforming levels:
>30 levels in Crash 3
>2 underwater levels
>2 Pura levels
>2 triceratops chase levels
>4 jet ski levels
>4 bike levels
>3 biplane levels
I'm willing to count chase levels as 0.5 gimmick level because, unlike Crash 1's and 2's chase levels, there are sections in these levels where you move forward and get the usual platforming experience. But that still makes 16 out of 30 levels full of gimmicks and not platforming - that's more than half of the game, ffs! Crash 3's platforming levels are basically just medieval, Arabian, Egyptian, and futuristic ones, and I can't say the medieval and Arabian ones were interesting to play through (especially compared to Crash 1 and 2 level layouts). And yes, Crash 1 and 2 also had gimmick levels, but the percentage wasn't THAT high.
>26 levels in Crash 1; 2 chase levels + 2 Hog levels make 4 out of 26 levels gimmick ones
>27 levels in Crash 2; 3 chase levels + 3 Polar levels + 2 jetpack levels + 3 jet board levels (I count these as 0.5 gimmick levels as well) make 9.5 out of 27 levels gimmick ones
