Dodonpachi daiōjō is the supreme game for me.
>another generic space shooter
>>12600901Nah, Anon, there is a scoring system and a chain system
>>12600901>GenericTelltale sign of a midwit
Only multiplayer games can be really complex cus humans are unpredictable. All these shmups and beat'em ups you arcadefags shill can be memorized, and you can bait the enemies into doing what you want if you know how they work. The most deep and complex /vr/ games RTS, FPS and fighting games.
>>12600917SHMUPs are the best genre for me.
>>12600905Midwit is a pretty bad insult, it would just mean someone of average intelligence, which isn't offensive at all. Why not say dimwit?
I don't know if it's that complex but touhou 11 chireiden subterranean animism is full of things to think about before even selecting the shot type. (my favorite is marisa A)
>>12600928SHMUP Chads, unite !
>>12600895[hard bullet hell] is the supreme game I wish I liked more and played more but I don't because I"d rather play Contra, Ghouls n Ghosts, Metal Slug, R-Type Delta and Psikyo desu family
>>12600948Based Retro gaming Chad
>>12600895Playing doj a lot recently so wanna yapThe game definitely is deep and complex, but is it infinitely? I don't think soStudying and explaining how to get the theorical best score is a feasible thing within a lifetime. While we'll never be able to explain how to play at the level of stockfish in chess for instanceThe game do have infinite skill ceiling however (at least for normal humans, who knows if people gets enhanced through tech in the future). In a way the game being finite comes from it having such a defined frame: chess is infinite due to depending on its players' skill, learning martial arts is infinite due to body movements having so many possibilities, learning piano is infinite as you can always play faster and more complex sheetsA game like doj however starts with a purpose and with a much harder floor level, it's 5 stages and its loop is tightly crafted for its brutal experience that any curious player will have to face.
>>12600931>>12600931I'm a casual Shmup player. i played all touhou games, shikigami no shiro series, some other random bizarre doujinges a 3 games from cave, i'm here more for the art, also Cho Ren Sha is also epic, i'm a big x68000 fan.
>>12600952Other unknown shmup worth checking is samidare, from the same creators of the seihou series.
>>12600917>cus humans are unpredictable.Clearly you don't play fighting gamesAlso, is unpredictability tied to depth? Because then you'd have to explain how unpredictability in a multiplayer game makes it deep, while unpredictability in playing rock paper scissors woumd probably not be
>>12600952besides of SHMUPs which types of games are you into ?
>>12600975Action platformers, Hack n slash and sometimes run n gun.>magical pop'n/valis>bayonetta 2/ng Black>kiki kaikai/Fray cd/etoile princesse/alien soldierare my favorite from each genre. Pretty casual games, except to kiki kaikai and alien soldier. As i said i value fun more than depth.
is it normal in these ganes to really struggle keeping a focus on your ship while navigating through lots of bullets? i swear its like im playing half blind a lot of the time and im not sure if this is common or just me
>>12601001It's normal, your eyes and your brain can't keep track of everythingWith time you'll learn where to look on the screen depending on what you wanna do. Such as looking where your ship is for precise micrododging, looking at the top of the screen for aiming at ennemies, looking in upper middle to see upcoming bullets you can macro dodge, ...
>>12601001You will definitely be using your peripheral vision a lot more than most other genres. You will periodically look at your ship when you need to move carefully, but a lot of the time your eyes will just be fixed on the middle of the screen and your peripheral vision will allow you to see everything at the same time.
>>12600926Midwit is used to refer to someone of average intelligence that thinks themselves to be geniuses.
>>12601058A perfect descriptor of shmupfags
>>12601069Shmups are fun, son. Me and your mother have always known what fun is, so why don't you? I sometimes worry that we have failed you...
This thread is not very good
>>12601082it 'll get better soon, we just have to stop shitlifting over shmups
>>12601085I think the skill level on /vr/ is so incredibly low that discussion is impossible here and threads will just devolve into Mexicans jerking off over sprite art between walls of bait. I think it's actually unironically over for this board.
>>12601069"I'm not obsessed"
>>12601082of course. it's a shmup tranny thread
>>12600928Not retro
>>12601228it's Windows XP + 2D SHMUP game, way more retro then most 6th gen games discussed here
>>12600895I need to get the switch version sometime.
>>12600901FPBP/thread
>>12600895>infinite depth>copy route from replayThe scoring system actually forces you into the shallowest gameplay possible. If you want actual depth you would be playing JRPGs.
>>12601391nah actually if you want depth you play VNs. They have branching paths n shieeet
>>12601236Moreover, considering this i'm really interesting on doujin shmups. I think you would like, it's not really about mechanical depth or quality but creativity to try something new.
>>12601391>JRPG>DEPTHmaybe if you're speedrunning them lol
