Will I be disappointed with FF4 if I played 6 & 7 first?
>>
>>12602382
yes
>>
No. Fun things are fun.
Why ask this? Play it or don’t. I’m beginning to think all these threads are automated to make it look like the site is still popular.
>>
I played 9 then 4. I was mildly disappointed with 4 but still enjoyed it enough to play. Haven’t played it in 25 years and probably won’t revisit. 6 and 7 are leagues better.
You might be disappointed but it’s a solid enough game.
>>

> I’m beginning to think all these threads are automated to make it look like the site is still popular.
I’ve considered that for a while. But I’m going to need proof before letting a theory become delusion.
I agree just play the game. I could get a copy of doc downloaded and running in less time than this post took me.
>>
>>12602391
I don't blame you for thinking that but I just saw one of the other FF4 threads and it reminded me it's been on my backlog for like 20 years.
>>
>>12602382
Maybe? It has it's own charm. It's more simple in the story and paths you can take, which can be nice. The battle music is better than both. You have five party members which is pretty cool and I wish they would go back to that. Besides the soundtrack, the best thing about it over the others is the difficulty. You will need to grind in several areas because a lot of areas are pretty unforgiving. Bring lots of items. Game overall is around 22 hours, but feels longer, and that's half the length of the other two.

It's a great game but it's pretty easy, play the Japanese version. Also, this game has constantly switching party members so take advantage of that, if you grind before party members return they will be a level or two higher than you so you can be extremely strong early on.
>>
>>12602416
As long as you aren't running from fights you'll usually be at the right level for most parts of the game, for a few bosses I guess a few more levels wouldn't hurt though.
>>
>>12602391
It's worse even than that.
The people themselves are this retarded, Dead Internet is a cope to pretend it isn't Retard Internet. Even a bot simply copies the retardation of the average user and children drown in irony and fear.
>>
>>12602435
More like some of us have limited time to play vidya and we just want to make sure the games we play are going to be worth it. You can't really tell if an RPG is going to be worth it from just playing for 15 minutes or whatever.
>>
>>12602382
Probably not.
>>
>>12602443
If you have limited time for games, why is an RPG the game of choice for you? They're notoriously long, FF4 is pretty short at just 20 hours though you can probably finish it in under a month if you just chip at it for a few hours every day.
>>
>>12602443
Sorry, man, I'm simply not a retard. I have no interest in your ostensible premise.
I'm simply here to point at you.
>>
>>12602382
>Will I be disappointed
at less content (or graphics) maybe but its still a great game. it also has a simpler, more focused story which you might like since the other games are kind of all over the place.
>>
>>12602391
There has either been a bot or an autist making threads of other games on the board lately. 2 Wind Waker threads up right now for example, one right after the other. There was a DQ1 thread with almost the same image as one up right now too but the copy thread died. And of course this thread because someone else made an FF4 thread.

FF4 is my personal fav. I wouldn't recommend the SNES original though, unless you're looking for a more casual playthrough.

I'm tired of holding back what I really think, 6 might be the most overrated game of all time. 4, 7, 9 and 10 are the only good games in this entire franchise. This is my truth and I'm not ashamed.
>>
>>12602382
Probably. If you liked those games because of the story telling it's not nearly as elaborate. If you like the ATB system it's more of that, without limit breaks. There's not a job or esper system like 6 and 5. The story is pretty cool but basic. Having up to 5 characters sounds cool but it's also more people you have to keep alive. It's a fun game though, of you're into that sort of thing.
>>
>>12602382

Probably somewhat, although it's still worth playing. The story and characters won't blow you away and the gameplay feels a bit bare but the ost is great and it has cool locations that stimulate the imagination. Play this then FFV

It is still my 2nd favorite of the series just after Tactics. Of note, I played it before 6, 7, and tactics, but I was still able to determine Tactics was better and dropping it to my next favorite. The nostalgia is strong as it was my 2nd game for the SNES after the pack-in Mario World, but it did start a trend for the kinds of games I got for the system since I couldn't afford much.
>>
>>12603359
I used to have all these with the boxes and manuals. Sold them a few years ago. Takes me back looking at that. High end SNES square lineup.

You will suffer, because 6 is when FF was completely and irreversibly toddlerized.

Pretty cool how JRPGs back then often came with guides.
>>
>>12602382
Nah. I played 6 and 7 first and still loved 4.
>>
>>12603541
It’s better to kill the officer first as you get more xp. The soldiers don’t know what to do after he is dead too.

What a relic.

>You can't really tell if an RPG is going to be worth it from just playing for 15 minutes or whatever.
You're asking this about FF4, a highly popular SNES games with many ports and has been dissected thoroughly over the last 35 years since it released. That alone should clue you in to it being worthy to at least try out.

You've only outed yourself as a brain dead normalnigger.

I could get into 7's story, I could just barely get into 6's story, and I couldn't get into 4's story.
>>
>>12604172
>and I couldn't get into 4's story.
How come? It's the easiest to follow, a bit cliche but it's quite digestible for a game of it's time.
>>
>>12604178
I couldn't get interested, immersed, invested in the story.
>>
>>12604178
People like that have no self-awareness and don't understand even the concept of objectivity. Such questions are a waste of time for them.

I don't know. It's the only FF I've ever played besides VII.
It was alright.

But that xp is lost when Cecil gets bleached
>>
>>12602382
Yes. 4 was good for its day but it's story is nothing special and there is zero character customization that we got past 5 so there's nothing you're missing.
>>
>>12602382
nah, or maybe, but it's a great game with a great story and the graphics are *pretty*, even if not at the FFVI level they are so nice on the eyes it makes me happy

I could not bring myself to do that, as those are the ones from my youth. I didn't get much for the SNES, but after FF2(4) I was hooked to Square's games. Especially since before the SNES, JRPGs weren't my thing on the NES, and yet I still chose the game without any marketing influence (probably because Toys R' Us sold out of F-zero and I didn't want to leave without a 2nd game for the system).

>>12603883
Can equip 2 of them. The corners are kinda worn, but I did leave the box/manuals/maps at my uncle's and mostly handled the cartridge. FF3(6) was the first time I realized Square might not make a great game, despite everyone else loving it for its visuals I found it to be poorly paced and more prone to annoying to the player. Then I disregarded the thought when I gathered my preorder of Chrono Trigger, which righted the wrongs I felt about Squaresoft in that time I was playing FF3(6) and proceeded to view the original Playstation's primary selling point was the Squaresoft support.
>>
OP here. I just started the game and I'm only 10 minutes in but wanted to log my thoughts so far.
I'm not a translation autist but some of the opening dialogue was pretty rough and it seems like there must have been longer stretches of dialogue that were shortened to fit the same cartridge space. But the story comes across clear enough anyway and it already has me interested. The rough edges in the text are honestly pretty comfy tbdesu. Also I thought it was funny to get the text in picrel right in the middle of the opening drama.
>>
Yes. FF4 is probably the most bland and milquetoast classic FF game. It's not BAD, just very straightforward for the entire game.
>>
>>12605538
>>12603359
how have the mods not banned this spamming autist yet
>>
>>12605901
This is genuinely a bad version of the game,
If ever these was a case hit to play the original US release of a game it’s this,
Bad translation, abilities removed from characters, items removed.
Do yourself a solid and either patch the JP rom with a translation or play the PSP version.
>>
>>12605923
I would but my faith in fan translations has already been lost, and if I played the PSP version I'm sure it would be better but then why not play one of the later versions even? Seeking the ultimate version of any classic game is a slippery slope and there's usually autism and misinterpretation of the original intent at the bottom. Also sometimes imperfections can be more comfy than not.
>>
>>12603541
>came with
sold separately*
games were deliberately made obtuse to lure people into buying the strategy guide.
>>
Why did NPCs always do the pee dance in old RPGs?

>>12605901
I'd really recommend playing the Japanese version with the namingway translation since it's translation is based on the superior PSP port of the game, but the USA version is easier for beginners if you're not all that experienced with JRPGs like I was.
>>
>>12602382
Might not, I played FF5 first and have been extremely disappointed with 6 and 7. So those two are not exactly the greatest.
>>
>>12606008
I've played most of the notable 16-bit JRPGs but just never got around to any of the FFs before 6 for whatever reasons. Anyway I think I'm just gonna keep playing the US SNES version and if I like it enough I can play the "better" versions later.
>>
Already friendzoning these fantasy sluts.
>>
>>12606028
FF4 was my first final fantasy so i'll not let my bias cloud me, it's standard plot wise as far as RPGs go but back then it was revolutionary, take note of the active time battle system and if you're having trouble you can slow it down or just set it to wait in the config. Don't worry a lot about grinding either, as long as you aren't running from battles that much you will always be prepared for mostly every stretch of the game (which isn't that long mind you, 20 hours max).
>>
Is there ever anything in these pots or no?
>>
>>12606031
kek
>>
>>12606038
>is there ever anything in these pots or no?
At specific points in the game, some pots have a liquid in them that drinking gives you your HP & MP back, I think there are NPCs who tell you of this but if you just try out every one there'll be a hidden healing pot somewhere.
