It's sensitive. Use loose steering settings, and get used to microadjustments. After a while you'll realize how responsive the controls are. And play the DC version, gamepad controls suck on the PS2 version for a variety of reasons.

This is why classic NFS in particular was so great - cars you dream about owning in places you dream about driving without the more serious edge found in games focused on dedicated race tracks. Bah gawd I want to cruise with the top down in my F355 spider on the ivory coast but i'll never have the money to do so.
