Giving X a saber was a great idea, it's a shame no other Mega Man game has that kind of playstyle. X Form in Zero 2 comes close, but that game is almost as rushed and janky as X6 is.

I liked it a lot more than X5. A lot of it is bullshit jank, but to a degree that it's fun to overcome it. The only change I'd have made would be splitting up the second Gate stage.

You can fix it somewhat by hacking in the shadow armor and all the chips, then disable hostages.

Hyper Dash and Jumper remove the need for the midair animation glitches, its technically more lenient than getting the arm upgrade in Wheel Gator in X2 without air dash. It's messy, but nowhere near as unplayable as people meme it up to be. Would love to see what it would have been like if the dev team got some more time in the kitchen.
