In my experience, most players seem to just blast it full auto at medium range, treating it like a shitty middlepoint between the Plasma Pistol and Assault Rifle. The spread when rapid firing is almost as bad as the AR, and it overheats from rapid fire unlike the PP; it also, obviously, has no overcharged shot like the PP. So what makes it one of the best weapons in the game? Consider:>can be fired semi-auto by tapping the trigger just like the PP (which makes the shots completely straight with no spread just like the PP) >the PR's projectiles travel faster than the PP's and also have no dropoff (the PP's projectiles slowly descend downward at a distance)>the PP's projectiles will also disappear at a fairly short distance, but the PR's will travel much further>can be fired full auto, and can be prevented from overheating with a careful touch unlike the PP which is guaranteed to quickly overheat if you attempt to fire it as fast as the PR's automatic fire>the PR, if held down for full auto, is strong enough to kill either a blue or red elite without overheatingSo the PR fires faster than the PP, its projectiles don't descend, the projectiles travel further, and it doesn't overheat as easily. This thing absolutely slays small mixed groups of grunts with 1-2 elites, but it requires alternating between semi-auto and full-auto fire to reap the benefits. The PP is valuable for quickly dispensing of individual units like a single jackal or elite in confined spaces, but for mixed groups of enemies in diverse environments the PR is the king. Honestly, I consider it a better weapon than the magnum, if only because it can de-shield an elite more easily. This gun fucking rocks and it deserves none of the hate it gets.
The plasma rifle's projectiles still have some spread even when tapped, and you can't tap fire it near as fast as the plasma pistol. But I still like using it to give my finger a break.

Also you can definitely tap fire as fast as the PP and the PP overheats in like 2 seconds when you try to tap it full retard.

>>12607303It's completely useless in multiplayer because it's countered by simply moving. The spread is set up so it will only ever hit around the reticle so you can't even properly lead it. And if you do supercombine someone, it doesn't instantly kill.It's decent in singleplayer. Even on legendary it can get an elite.
