Friendly reminder Sega only won ONCE and it was thanks to Sega of America and their successful ad campaigns making them number one across Europe and an equal to Nintendo. Before that and after that Sega was irrelevant.Friendly reminder Sega of Japan NEVER won anything, their biggest "success" the Saturn was laughable compared to the Playstation's success, the Dreamcast was dead on arrival and they couldn't even sell the Genesis when SoA could. Sega trapped lightning in a bottle only once and it wasn't thank to SoJ.
>>12607657I have never been swayed by marketing. When I buy a console it's because of my knowledge of the product solely through my own research.
>>12608104Cool but the average consumer is a retard that falls for buzzwords
>>12607657SoA didn't market the Genesis in Europe (its most successful territory). It isn't even called the same. Stop dicksucking yourselves.
>>12607657>and it was thanks to Sega of AmericaMarketing and selling Japanese games because Sega of America could not create worth a shit and would have nothing to sell if not for Sega of Japan.
>>12608246And the Japanese couldn't sell their own games because?
>>12608109Only trvke in the thread
The good guys lose. It's called real life.
>>1260813420 million of the 39 million sold was in North America alone. Dreamcast was the same thing 5 million out of the 10 Million was just NA. Not bad for just only 2 years and a sinking ship at launch day.
>>12607657Piracy Killed The Dreamcast
>>12608295The Dreamcast is a 5.5 gen console
>>12608295Not in Japan, You couldn't give away Dreamcast in Japan.
>>12607657>the console that came out 2 years later has less games, stop the presses!I like the genny more but this is a shitty argument
>>12608295Yeah bit which gaem the 5min test and burn of teh small arcado library can't bees it?
>>12607657>Friendly reminder>Child rantslol
>>12608309*6 gen>>12608313Dreamcast was a huge success in Japan because they didn't have faggots pirating their games.
>>12608349Less than 2 million units sold in Japan is not a success, People waited for PS2 there. DC actually did ok at first in the US because of the 2k sports line and early online gaming.
>>12608104No one is immune to marketing. The most effective marketing is the kind you don't recognize as marketing. Only a fool believes he's the only free thinker in the room.
>>12607657They had their success on the arcade market.
>>12607657>SoA tards are now stealing credit from SoE marketing the MasterSystem and MegaDriveThese guys just keep on sinking lower and lower
>>12607657I miss when companies directly did jabs at each other, like showing the SNES in there.
>>12608360That’s wrong though, Dreamcasts kept being sold through 2007
>>12608250>And the Japanese couldn't sell their own games because?Because they weren't in America, didn't speak the language. In Japan the timing was wrong, PC Engine was already on the market for a year when the Mega Drive launched, stole its thunder. The SFC came shortly after. The market can only support so many consoles at once and Mega Drive was the middle child between the new hotness and the returning champion. In America the TG-16 was delayed for so long that the Genesis launched just before it, Sega had more time for game development to oppose it with a strong Japanese made launch line up and the TG-16 was famously terribly mismanaged in the US. As for Nintendo, the delay between the SFC launch in Japan and the SNES launch in America allowed the Japanese to launch their new mascot game just before the SNES came out.Basically Sega of Japan was playing blindfolded baseball while the Americans were playing Teeball with Sega of Japan's equipment and being smug about it. They were handed a winning hand full of quality Japanese made games when they were the only real viable next gen console, had the basically market to themselves for two years and then thought they were hot shit. Same thing happened in Europe but they don't arrogantly demand everyone suck their dick for it.
>>12608669The pirates and Sega haters want to ignore that fact.>>12608360Dreamcast continued into 2007 in Japan, whether you want to acknowledge that or not. Japan is the only place pirates couldn't kill the Dreamcast.
>>12608669>>12609137Damn Sega fanboys are special. Offering repairs after 2001 is not actively supporting the console on the market, it's just customer support. They had a warehouse full of unused Dreamcast parts, what else were they going to do with it?
>>12607657>Sega of America and their successful ad campaigns making them number one across Europe>Sega of America >making them number one across Europe
So anyway, this would have saved the Saturn.
>>12608767The PC Engine sold well because it was sold at a much lower price and had much cheaper hucards and then later the cheaper CDs. Yet still, all this boils down to the fact that SOJ did not manage the Megadrive right.Megadrive was in a horrible position in both markets, and had the same japanese games in both markets, but only in America under Michael Katz and Tom Kalinske did it manage to overtake Nintendo.
>>12608252>the good guys made a lot of terrible decisions and fought between themselves over petty shit instead of fighting their rivalsHuh?
Daily reminder that the Megadrive was almost exclusively a first party console in Japan
>>12609841Surprised that janky HnK game sold so well.
>>12609296>The PC Engine sold well because it was sold at a much lower priceUntrue. PC Engine was introduced at ¥24,800 vs the Mega drives ¥21,000, Hu-Card games were not cheaper either. The PC Engine and its CD add-ons were very expensive all throughout its life.>Megadrive was in a horrible position in both marketsAbsolutely false, the Mega Drive was in a horrible position in the Japanese market and the perfect position in the American and European markets.>and had the same japanese games in both marketsThe competition did not. The PC Engine never took off and about half of Super Famicom games never came to the US, Sega released more games in America than Japan. That is not to mention issues of timing like Sonic the Hedgehog releasing before the SNES in America but after the SFC in Japan. Japan could not support 3 console ecosystems, the US did not have that problem and Sega of Japan furnished them with support, their whole mascot was designed to appeal to Americans.>under Michael Katz and Tom KalinskeNotice you mention them for temporary overtaking Nintendo and not their European counterparts who outright won the console war in their territory. That is because they were not sucking their own dick for playing the winning hand they were dealt by the Japanese.
>>12609841Publisher =/= developer
>>12608349Japanese people are honorable, unlike us Americans.
