I'm kind of interested in trying out Dark Cloud games, but I see 2nd one has far better ratings than the first. Should I just skip the 1st game?

Most of what's lost is spiritual, like tone and aesthetic, but it counts for quite a bit. While the first is ultimately an alright game with either poorly designed or at least half-baked ideas, 2 swaps them for its own set of similar problems.They're both fun, though.
