certainly not as-is, idk how you'd even do it.neo-geo's cpu isn't anything special (12MHz 68k). it also has a pretty boring 64k of main ram and doesn't even have DMA.what neo-geo has was fuckhuge cartridges (not just in physical size) and a graphics chip that could handle as many sprites as you could want, even backgrounds are just made of spritesdoom doesn't use sprites, it's an entirely software-rendered engine, as it is it'd run like a slideshow, and that's assuming you can even run it with so little work ram (can't really compare memory requirements directly since PC games practically needed levels loaded into memory, which cartridge games don't need to do, still doom has a lot more variables than your typical arcade game)

Ideally what you want to do is lots of cheating by rendering various surfaces as tilemaps. since neogeo can have everything as a sprite, you can separate out the surfaces (walls, floor, ceiling etc). to repeat as often as you like and use sprite scaling to change the perspective as you walk. same thing applied to walls, doors and other 3d objects. you only need part of the animation for a 360 degree rotation. the rest you can cheat using animations, sprite scaling and line scrolling. The second solution is to have a custom DSP on the cart that draws 3d objects and can spit out neogeo tiles (superfx like)

Maybe not as powerful as an SNES with enhancement chips, but considering that watered down ports of DOOM have been made to run on graphic calculators and printer controllers and things like that, I see no reason the Neo Geo even without enhancement chips couldn't be made to run some really cut down version of it.

You could probably program a pseudo-3d FPS engine tailored to the Neo Geo’s capabilities and then adapt Doom’s assets to fit in it, but that’s not really Doom anymore.

There are some pseudo 3D game on Neo Geo, like The Super Spy or Riding Hero, but first one is mostly 2D with sone very awkward 3D level transitions and the other is a very basic Hang-On clone. Neo Geo is a sysytem without any polygonal capabilities, so the only way to simulate depth is to use sprite scaling, which is a big limitation.
has doom ever been faithfully reproduced on a system older than itself? i don't count the snes version since that has a hard requirement on the superfx2, which while i don't know when that chip was made, no game older than 1995 used it.i think the only time it has was, surprisingly, was the atari jaguar version. the jaguar came out a couple WEEKS before doom did, and it got a pretty decent port. practically it's the same age however and i want to know about older systems.i'm not sure there is, doom was a high end game, and even something as stupendously high end as neo-geo only a few years prior stands little a chance of running doom as-is
