89.99 for a controller is pretty steep not to mention no price for the games listed so far as I can tell. Still getting one and all the games. Anyone else or nah?
>>12608247Will almost certainly be better than my analogue 3d, I'll probably give it a go. I already have 8bitdo controllers so I wouldn't need to spend on those.
>>12608269I have an analogue 3d but I haven’t been able to use it (dealing w a health issue). Why don’t you like it? I haven’t had a chance to try the fps fixes for games like Perfect Dark to make them run more smoothly but from what I understand it works well. Again though, I haven’t had a chance to use it or play much vidja at all recently so just curious on why you didn’t like it.
>>12608247Yes I'm buying one for myself and one for my sister. Not sure if I'll buy the games but they seem interesting, especially Xeno Crisis.
OMG NEW PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!
>>12608247It was totally worth sneaking on to your mommiess computer to shitpost that
>>12608278It's totally fine and runs all my games great, it's just some little stuff that's annoying. Not being able to update the console from the console for instance. I really like the Chromatic and the GB/N64 stuff ModRetro have alluded to sounds cool as well.
>>12608305Oh damn, I thought the update manually removing the card was a one time thing. That is super retarded that it has WiFi if I’m not mistaken but it doesn’t update unless you take out the card and do it from a computer every time. Just very inconvenient.>>12608298Lmao, what?
>>12608291I’m sorry your poor.
>>12608291Also… the meme is funny because he literally paid for an X-men shirt and a ton of product that he’s surrounded by, whilst making fun of consumers for buying products. Makes total sense no irony there at all.
>>12608291Also, also: from the dudes who liked the acolyte and obi wan kenobi series, two of the most shitty horribly written shows ever produced. Gotta love it.
>>12608317Yeah afaik it has Wi-Fi on board and it can't be used for anything yet, just a weird design decision to not ship with that
I like the shade thrown at Analogue throughout this page.
>>12608416That is pretty funny tbqh
>>12608247Are these games playable on original hardware?
>>12608590This one is even better.
>>12608269You're better off emulating3D is more accurate and looks better. M64 looks like dogshit and runs slower
>>12608593Their Chromatic releases are playable on real GB/C hardware, so there's precedent for "yes".>>12608602Good thing I already have the 3D
>>12608616Those Chromatic releases are reflashable too, which is how their cart updating mechanism works.I'm aware of Chromatic Tetris having two updates so far, but that's all I know.Point being similar may be the case for their M64 originals and re-releases.Buck Bumble being one of their first releases was super predictable btw.
Compatibility list is up:https://modretro.com/pages/m64-compatibility23 suffer from minor issues (mainly framerate drops), and another 23 will shit the bed when trying to play them.
>>12608650
Context for M64 currently running slower than real hardware
Looks like it still won't be replacing real hardware for development any time soon.>Inaccurate timings (around 30% slower than the real thing)>Longer boot times (~5 seconds vs around half a second for real hardware)At least it seems more accurate overall than any regular emulator, based on test ROM results.
>>12608247it's trashhttps://youtube.com/watch?v=22PTX7WFAac&t=158s
>>12608650>>12608654>>12608696wait isn't the M64 supposed to be FPGA? why does it have worse compatibility than your average MiSter? am I missing something here? please explain I'm dumb
>>12608796The MiSTer N64 core makes some compromises to work on the DE10Nano. Some things are made faster to make up for some things that are slower, and it averages out to basically normal speed. It also automatically patches a few games for them to work. The M64 is trying to not make these compromises, but the "make the slow things not slow" part isn't finished yet.
>>12608650They still have 2 months so we will see there progress as it gets closer to launch. I’ll have all 3 so I look forward to testing them both beside an actual 64.It is cool that modretro is releasing games tho. Nothing crazy so far but still pretty cool.
I have absolutely no clue why the fuck they would release the system to YouTubers and allow them to post footage and reviews of shit that still has 2 months left of crunch development (involving pivotal releases like Mario 64, Goldeneye, Starfox, Donkey Kong, etc). This does nothing but muddy the waters and ruin first impressions. Please explain the reasoning behind this, because I’m apparently a fucking retard and don’t understand. All I can take away from this is “welp let’s see what happens in 2 months- either they fix it or they don’t”. Useless.
They're financing the development of new N64 games and I think that's laudable. The fact that it does analog video output makes it better than the Analogue (lol) 3D by default.
>>12609159Now the YouTube influencers can make weekly videos showing the NEW and IMPROVED UPDATES each and every fucking week for the next two months until it releasesEasy free advertising boosts
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMROAr8VOxg&t=69sCan they fix this with updates or is it fucked?
>>12608247No SNAC, no buy>>12608298Least mentally ill /vr/ user
>>12609409It clearly uses SNAC with the N64 ports.
>>12608247From what I gather, the controller will have that rejected unhealthy Chinese metal unfit for Predator drones, thus increasing the material cost. I am curious if it will have options that remove the internal blurring pass plus a de-blurring of the output that I so desire from a UltraHDMI mod. I think someone did mention it has the option to remove the dithering, but I am unsure if there's a 32-bit color option to toggle on.>>12609305From the images, there's an HDMI port and 3 USB-C ports. Does one of the USB-C ports output to analog through some specialized dongle or did they change the outputs on the back? If it could do all the de-blurring, de-interlacing, de-dithering, and output full 32-bit color to analog RGB would make it really ideal for me, especially if it can overclock to improved framerates too on CRT monitors.
>>12609159Yeah, it's absolute bullshit they're allowing us to see honest reviews of their product, especially when it allows for further playtesting so they'll have a better understanding of everything that needs to be fixed.
>>12609750>allowing us to see honest reviews of their productThe product isn’t officially released yet. Why do I give a fuck about “honest reviews” of something that isn’t finished and still needs work? Again, just muddying the waters and giving people bad first impressions who read the reviews>it allows for further playtesting so they'll have a better understanding of everything that needs to be fixedFantastic- but why does this need to be publicly shown? This is the equivalent of playtesters being given alpha and beta code of work-in-progress games, then recording all the footage and releasing “reviews” online of it. Just keep it in house until it’s closer to release. Now they have to work uphill against bad initial impressions, which they wouldn’t have had to do if they had simply waited to allow the playtesters to release footage/reviews of code that’s closer to what’s actually going to be shipped
>>12610209You're really upset for no reason, are you slow? Everyone knows it's a WIP, a lot of games still run well, a lot of the busted games will be fixed before full release, it'll be a simple update, these yourube guys will post new videos as the updates go through.
lol
>>12610219>You're really upset for no reason, are you slow? No, just autistic. You’re right- opinions of shitty YouTubers don’t matter. Who gives a fuck, all that matters is they ship a product worth purchasing- and sounds like next two months are going to be crunch time. Hope they get it done, I was pretty pumped for this.
>>12609159Here is your problem: your reasoning implies that they know what the fuck they're doing.
>>12608247It's cheaper just to buy a real N64, a region free tray, an everdrive knock off or summer cart, HDMI cable (It won't be perfect but it's good enough)and a real controller.
>>12610236Buy our shit in July, we “aim” to have it actually ready by December. Incredible.
>>12609159Yea, after there funny but shade throwing comments seems kind of like a self own.
>>12609409>>12608298Same fag
>>12610272An n64 w an expansion pak is around 150 usd. A decent controller where the stick isn’t destroyed is going to cost anywhere between 37-50 dollars minimum. As far as the cable for hdmi, no idea what that costs. An expansion pak and controller is almost 100 dollars off eBay. I recently purchased both for just under 100 (a gold n64 oem controller was 47 plus tax and expansion paks for Buy now are not going lower than 40, I’ve seen them priced between 50-60 normally). I have an analogue 3d and my original gold 64 I got back in 2000, but the 3d and M64 are plug and play into an modern tv and can improve fps in games like Perfect Dark, which is much needed. It really isn’t that much cheaper to get an original over a 3d or M64 and again directly out of the box connect to modern TVs and can fix fps drops along w all kinds of other features. I mean, do what you want but the price isn’t an issue at all when comparing it to original hardware.
>>12610272Also, did the summercarts suddenly drop in price because last I checked AliExpress the actual good summercarts (some of them are not like the others) cost around 60-80 unless a sale is going on. If you have a link to the true summercarts and they are under 50, no kidding please link it. I’d like another one. I have two currently one is the real deal the other is not.
This shit is coming in hot 'n' steamy.
>>12609474I believe they'll be selling an adapter. Kind of a bummer it doesn't have AV hookups baked in but I get that different people have different setups.
>>12610503HDMI cables are around like 20 bucks, they tap into the S-video but I've have one and it's been fine and I don't know think I've had lag, I play on a CRT too.https://youtu.be/qKQ3Opq2_ZM?si=k1i_taxHgtlBvcRE&t=97
>>12611210Word. What about the summercarts? In all seriousness the real ones seem to go for 80 on AliExpress so if you have found a seller on there whose get the real deal (which is funny because it’s a knock off in and of itself but somehow better than an everdrive) for cheap link it. Like I said last time I bought 2, one from one seller and another from a different seller and one came in a brown box no labels no manual no nothing and the other came in its own box w marketing and manual I believe but it’s clear just from looking at it that one was different quality and someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the legit summercart is the only one that works w an A3D. I know for a fact my A3D didn’t recognize the cheap summercart I’ll try and test it on the “real” summercart I had misplaced it but I think I know where it is now and ill try it out. That’s all irrelevant though if Analogue has an update that allows for flash cards now, so I really need to update the entire system but yeah not supporting flash carts out of the box is kind of annoying and a win for og hardware for now. I know they were supposed to update it to support any type not sure if they have yet.
>>12611520I thought about upgrading to an Summer Cart currently I just have a Super64 cart which has been great but super outdated so I think some homebrew and hacks don't work on it. The only games official that don't work on it is Puyo Puyo 64 and Sims City 64
>>12611520I use a summercart on my A3D all the time, I got the "KAICO" one from Amazon for roughly $80.
>>12609443Doesn't necessarily mean it'll be able to work natively with other controllers for other cores
>>12610503>A decent controller where the stick isn’t destroyed is going to cost anywhere between 37-50 dollars minimum.Just buy the official Switch controller one and connect it with a bluetooth adapter you niggertroon
>>12612201The official Switch one is $55 + tax + tip + shipping and then you need an adapter on top of that and the stick still uses the original mechanisms that are prone to wearing out. I'm hoping the TMR sticks in the M64 controller are more durable while still preserving accuracy--nobody seems to talk about how inaccurate the 8BitDo N64 sticks are.
