Still the best Space 4x game ever made. Stellaris tries hard to imitate it, but fails to replicate the charm that this game had. Same goes for every other clone that's come out since. This game was lightning in a bottle.
The unofficial patch is great, but I'd give anything for a source port. These days, even the most obscure little games have one, which makes it all the more disappointing that Master of Orion II still doesn't.
>>12608618Gal civ III or IV came closer to what MoO2 was, compared to stellaris. But none of them are as good as the classic.
I liked Imperium Galatica II a lot as a kid. Never played Master Of Orion II, even though I've heard it's great. Has it aged well? Should I give it a go?
>>12608647As far as I know, Imperium Galactica is pretty story-driven, while Master of Orion is more like Civilization: you generate a random map, play through it in a few hours or days, and then move on to the next one. There is not much in the way of a bigger story, since it is mainly focused on replayability. I think it has aged pretty well overall, and the only thing that does not work quite as well for me is that the more colonies you have, the more tedious the micromanagement gets.
>>12609775It had a campaign, but you didn't have to follow it as far as I can remember. There were regular games.
Is MoO worth playing or should I skip directly to MoO2?
>>12610135It plays quite differently. You basically manage everything through a handful of sliders. Some people love how elegant and streamlined it is, but for me, it feels a bit too much like a dry board game, so it's not really my thing. Still, definitely worth giving it a shot so you can judge for yourself.
>>12608618>best Space 4x game ever madeCan’t disagree. I’ve played many of them, but moo2 is the one that always feels close to perfect. Only thing I wish it had was more detailed ground combat. I’ve played so many others, like >>12608647 and pax imperia, but each of them is missing some key element moo2 has.
