Am I a pleb for preferring All-Stars Mario 2 and Mario 3 over the NES originals? It's just that I grew up with All-Stars, and World 6 from Mario 3 on the NES just doesn't give me that same comfy feeling that the All-Stars version does, and the coin sound from the NES version hurts my ears.

Mario 1 is definitely better on the NES though. I can't put my finger on it, but the controls are just off in the All-Stars version.

I am a casual pleb and prefer the all stars version because of the save system.

>I even managed to beat mario lost levels (including A-D)

>Am I a pleb for preferring All-Stars Mario 2 and Mario 3 over the NES originals?
No. Its objectively a far better looking (if not also playing) game. And besides that, its likewise so old now at this point that it also counts as classic and retro just as the originals do.

No, you aren't. Stop listening to Anti Allstars schizos

Remake slop that ruined the original artistic vision's integrity

I'm kidding
>>
>>12608771
I had both Super Mario Bros 1 and 3 and later Mario All-Stars as a child and the number one thing I liked about All-Stars is that you could finally save your damn game. I also thought the graphics looked better than 1 and 3 but felt the originals had a charm the SNES version lacked.
Nowadays I'll happily go back to either the original trilogy and All-Stars because they both have their charms.
>>
>>12608775
if you didn't complete smb2 8 times to unlock those levels you didn't beat the game
>>
As long as you don't prefer the GBA games with that damn talking.
>>
>>12608828
but I played it legit on a real snes, no wraps, and they just unlocked.

not my fault that the NES version is a prototype and the All Stars version is the proper game

What in the fuck is THAT

Aren't all the airships brown? And every king transformation is just a mario enemy? Nah NES 3 has better lore.
>>
it's ok to like it, just admit that your opinion is largely based on nostalgia and has no merit.

Even better when you realize it's not legos, but N&Bs, Nintendo's own block toys.
They appear in Super Mario Land 2 as well

Mario 3 on NES looks ugly for the most part. Washed out looking. All Stars version’s snow levels and water levels are packed with SOUL

Objectively? Stupid. SMB1 yeah I could see that claim being defensible, but not the later ones.

All-Stars is generally good though of course, and OP is doing fine
>>
>>12609102
The stormy night sky on the All-Stars airship levels are so kino though.
>>
>>12608771
All stars is simply better.
>>
>>12608828
Newfag zoomlet here. Why 8 times?
>>
>>12609102
They also got rid of the entire theater play theming outside of the curtain and the backstage at the end. If they understood the lore they could have doubled down on it, instead they got rid of it
>>
The underground reverb effects and snow visuals of All Stars are deeply nostalgic for me.
>>
>>12609030
This is so cooked
>>
>>12610158
Because thats how it works in the FDS original, you need to beat the game 8 times to unlock those levels
>>
>>12608771
Yeah, absolutely, but who clearly cares?
>>
>>12608771
of course SMB1 is better on the NES, the all-stars version is almost unplayably bad with the way they handled the brick breaking.
>>
>>12610170
Holy shit, what a slop.
>>
>>12610254
How come so many people played through it over the years?
Could it be that your take that this is ‘almost unplayable bad’ is self evidently wrong? Why did you even make this false post?
You haven’t even played it. You just took what someone said years later and made it your own personality. You’ve probably never even played the original.
I suspect you don’t play any games.
You failed at everything you’ve ever tried and made regurgitating internet memes a way of life haven’t you.
>>
>>12610262
nta, but I grew up with All-Stars, and I can confirm the controls in Mario 1 and Lost Levels are just weird and clunky. NES Mario 1 is just way more responsive and satisfying as far as controls go. Mario 2 and 3 control beautifully on All Stars, better than NES, though some argue that All Stars Mario 3 is too floaty, but they're wrong.

Unless you played the faster version of SMB1 you didn't actually by any stretch of the imagination play the fastest version of SMB1

Better video that show the FPS because there is always that one guy claiming I was playing the PAL version in 60hz
>>
>>12608771
Nah. Mario 2 and 3 on All-Stars all comes down to aesthetic preferences, besides the saving. I love those versions too.
>>
>>12609217
>stars and ice
Bruh
Also all of the all stars graphics including the backgrounds look better imo. The blocks in the background are a neat touch.
>>
I rember there was a "bigger" box version of some Snes games. All Stars was in one of these bigger boxes I think, or maybe it was Yossy's Epstein Island.
>>
>>12608771
Nah, I and many, many others grew up with both. I personally switch back and forth between them all the time depending on my mood. Also, nowadays there's ROM hacks that address some of the things people don't like in one or the other. For example, there's NES SMAS, which combines all the games into one (plus the original Mario Bros.) and adds saving similar to the SNES original. There's also a patch to rectify the one actual issue the SNES versions of SMB1 and LL have, which is the brick physics bug, so that it now behaves just like the originals. Still no fix to the piranha plant's hitbox so you can jump over them in 4-1, though...
>>
>>12608771
>Am I a pleb for preferring All-Stars Mario 2 and Mario 3 over the NES originals?
No. They both look and sound nicer. Anybody that would prefer the NES counterparts are just stuck up purists which is fine in of itself but both versions of each respective game is fine to enjoy.
>>
>>12608771
I’ve always found the sprites in the original SMB3 ugly. Red and black Mario looks like shit and so does making him orange for the fire flower power up.
>>
>>12611183
It has soul, feels like a b&w Fischer cartoon.
But I also like the shaded All Stars sprites a lot too.
It's good both versions exist

I think one of the main issues is the iconic colorful North American box art and then the in-game sprite looking nothing like it.
>>
There's a certain whimsy and charm from this era of Mario that's been permanently lost.
>>
>>12608771
>Mario 1 SNES
has a physics bug that alters the play feel fundamentally

>Mario Lost Levels SNES
redesigned some levels to tone down the sadism
messed up the art direction of World 9 (no longer flying)
World 9 no longer resets the player to just 1 life and no longer gives those cute custom messages when you begin, lose or win
World 9 thank you message is untranslated
made World A-D no longer New Game Plus unlockables and no longer starting from World 9's 1 life
the above is too much because they needed it to be a level pack for Mario 1 All-Stars, but it's still the most accessible version so far because Deluxe is so shit in comparison

>Mario 2 Doki Doki Panic SNES
Objectively better, even the redesigned graphics are on point (only missing a vegetable variant that's wart-exclusive in the first place)
Even better on GBA because it incorporates some Satellaview bonuses (an easter egg hunt in GBA, a coin hunt on Satellaview)

>Mario 3 SNES
A direct port of the NES version
Objectively better, but some of the art direction is different (the theater theme and the star holograms when you fly too high are missing from SNES)
Content-wise, the GBA version with the Wii U VC patches that include the e-Reader stuff is vastly superior

BONUS

>Super Mario World, All Stars version
Has the better Luigi sprites
The GBA version is an easy mode because it alters the level design to remove many bottomless gaps, and it doesn't add much besides a menu to track down Yoshi Coin collection progress and some cutscenes and a slightly different way to unlock colored Yoshis. If you want these you're better off with a SNES version romhack.

>Yoshi's Island GBA
Has 6 hard new levels that reimplement various scrapped enemies and stuff, but the SNES version is otherwise superior and there's romhacks that port these levels to the SNES version.

BONUS 2

The All-Stars saves are "legit" (except for Lost Levels) because the NES versions already had them, or planned to (Mario 3 packaging)
>>
>>12612109
Mario 3 All-Stars also has Mario's hands being ungloved, which always looked weird to me. There's a patch to adjust this.
>>
>>12612060
You ain't kidding. It baffles me when newer Mario fans slag off Mario 3 for some of its more eccentric levels. I've even heard people diss Kuribo's Shoe for being too random and inexplicable. I'm telling you, Mario 3 is the gold standard that separates the plebs from the patricians. Only a person with a soul are receptive to how soulful it is.
>>
>>12609217
the lego bricks in mario 2 will always be stupid to me.
