>never liked JRPGs>tried Kingdom Hearts>suddenly get hooked and play all of them in orderWhat else should I try next then? I guess if I liked action combat/ fighting mechanics, then Tales of series is the next logical step?
>>12609927You like real time combat with teams, magic, and rpg elements. maybe you'd like Monster Hunter? Demon's Souls? Square-Enix was stuck in turn based combat land for ages, and Kingdom Hearts is actually the exception to the rule, not the rule. I would actually recommend checking out the newer FF games, namely FF7 Remake, and the like. The Kingdom Hearts series (for good and for ill) started to eat the rest of the Final Fantasy games.
>>12609927If you like the combat because it's easy and you don't really have to think, check out Dark Cloud.

>>12609950I never really learned much about Monster Hunter. I thought it was just grindy MMO type stuff? Is there much in terms of combat depth? I think most people recommend non retro ones, right? Are the PS2 ones worse/better?>>12609969Not really, I'm actually a little disappointed KH2 dumbed everything down from 1. Tried DMC and liked it, but the first game kind of filtered me with some bosses >>12610002Which one?
>>12609927>came to KH for the combat>stayed for Nomura's wild rideIf only Disney would keep their grubby little hands out of the franchise
>>12609927>What else should I try next then?Final Fantasy X.It's nearly an opposite game: turn-based combat, mature story, very linear, RPG character building, etc. But it's very close to KH1 in spirit, as the same Squaresoft made it. High budget presentation and english voice acting, amazing soundtrack, satisfying game design, memorable events/locations, impressive graphics for early PS2. FFX gets a lot of shout-outs in KH1 and 2, so it's nice to know the references.Same goes with FFVII, which you should also consider (Nomura involvement, universally beloved, massively influential). And don't even think about playing the remakes until you've played the original.>>12609950>>12610006I love monhun but it sucks. Does not respect your time. Want to build a cool sword? Get ready to grind a 20 minute hunt for a 5% drop, to get 4 of them. Want to use items to cut that hunt time down? Get in the habit of gathering resources, which may require a 2-3 minute detour every hunt. Combat is also VERY animation-heavy, you can rarely cancel out of attacks/items/knockbacks. These games do constant chip damage to your soul, even after you get used to it. Fun with friends!Freedom Unite (PSP 2nd gen) is probably the most approachable old one. You can find people to play with online but you'll be doing a lot singleplayer. Set aside at least 80 hours to clear low rank, which is only the tutorial.
>>12609927Looks like my summer vacation is... over.
>>12610006Try DMC3. I went through the series in order and its ridiculous how much 3 improves over 1. The kind of thing where all the changes and qol improvements are obvious in hindsight but playing 1 you don't see them straight away. 1 is serviceable but next to 3 is a miserable janky slog through-and-through.
