>Game introduces a feature that trivializes the experience>Later entries that don't feature it feel worse without it
I don't think double jump or upgradable weapons trivializes the experience, in this game the added mechanics actually feel balanced and the game is actually designed around them, for instance a lot of the platforming demand the use of perfect double jumps, and a lot of enemy patterns you're going to have trouble with without upgraded weapons. That is unlike CV4 which added new mechanics but didn't balance the game around them.
>>12611376The double jump allows for a lot of fuckery and I actually felt naked without it when I played the Genesis version or GNG Resurrection. It might be balanced for it, but I think a skilled player feels like he has more control over the game, even when they die.

>>12611374Double jump doesn't trivialize anything. You have 1 trajectory change in mid air and the game is deviously designed around you needing it for shit like jumping at Nebiros to smack him then jumping away from his fire. You blow the 2nd jump and don't use it as a properly strategized pivot you get hit. And probably die without having your bronze/gold armor once past the early stages. It has plenty of added risk for the power it gives to jump again.

>>12611440I'd be curious to see early sketches of this boxart. His pose is fucked up in a way that screams some Capcom USA executive kept wanting revisions that made no sense to the point that the artist just said fuck it and painted it to be done with it.
