GameCube was decidedly extremely lazy and iterative. "Oh we have to make a sequel to this because uhmm the n64 had it." The lack of effort also spread to GBA where nintendos output was truly pathetic.

This, those games had plenty of effort, but imo Nintendo was unprepared for the more demanding development cycles that came with sixth gen 3D graphics. They were used to N64 games having teams consisting of under 20 devs.

Objectively the Gamecube, at least in terms of power. In terms of the games themselves, they both have good games. The biggest knock on the DC library is that a lot of its good games are releases of Naomi titles.

Melee is put on a pedastal by people who only had a GameCube and no other consoles. Same with soul calibur 2. If you had a Sega or Sony console or hell even an Xbox you had a decent line up of fighting games available. Enough to mog the hell out of a pretty basic party game like smash.
