Honestly the Dreamcast UI was ugly as sinThe GameCube and Xbox, and even the PS2, had great ones
>>12612204you have no soul
>>12612216Nevertheless
>>12612204It looked optimistic and fun. Very soulful, much more so than the black backgrounds of the PS2, GameCube and Xbox.
>>12612204IIRC there is an alternate GUI you can access with a specific key combination. Some of the custom BIOSes you used to get had it as the default.
>>12612506It's accessed with the Japanese release of Puyo Puyo Feverhttps://www.itsstillthinking.com/dreamcast-alternate-3d-perspective-menu/
>>12612517I'm positive it's possible without doing any of that. It's been years but maybe A+B+X+Y then tapping start? Either that or holding certain buttons at start up, I can't remember exactly. I definitely did it without Puyo Puyo.
>>12612204The little icons for ps2 save games where pure unfiltered soul
>>12612517Holy sovl
>>12612204>he doesn’t know
>>12612496Xbox was green.
>>12612723green to black gradient. monotonous. soulless.
>>12612743No it definitely had soul. All of the console UIs that gen had soul. Dreamcast was a playful skyscape infinitely reflected with bouncy buttons, PS2 a mysterious monolith that let you interface with otherworldly technology that peered into the afterlife. Xbox with its realtime rendered boot sequence and pistoning menu items the feel of heavy duty equipment and even the cube having all of its bits and bobs tick and whizz with the softness of glass tiled cubes.
>>12612204I am inclined to agree but the dreamcast had a better selection of games imo
>>12613070not only that but the xbox intro was of a mysterious liquid thing in a vat. going through the xbox's menu felt like being on a spaceship.
>>12612204You never saw this garbage because it just booted right into whatever game you had put into it.
>>12612204ragebait or low iq, call it
>>12612204It's comfy. Yes, the rest mog it. especially the Xbox, but Dreamcast did it all first.
>>12612204This is another thing the Saturn did better and the Dreamcast botched.
>>12612204You have a point. I wouldn't say ugly, though; more specifically it doesn't fit the theme of the console. The items displayed in the other 3's system UI's (cube, glass panels, crystals) are inspired by the shapes & motifs of the physical console, while the the DC's menu just has some bouncy cartoonish icons. Its straightforward and functional, which is good, but the icons aren't, say, arranged along a spiral or the triangle-on-circle which is used for both the console and controller.
>>12613131same with gamecube and ps2
>>12613131>i'm gonna larpyou saw all 4 consoles os menus at least weekly due to frequent memory card/save management
>>12612496They were all good but who cares nigger, saturn dash was WAY cooler
>>12613535only played a couple of games, never had to worry about juggling saves or running out of memory. back when we actually paid for games most people only had like five or six.
>>12613535>larpit's called rping, you dumb fuck, roleplaying mulatto zoomer faggotyou do not 'larp' on the internet
>>12613552lmaoing at this post
>>12613552whatever gay shit you want to call it it's in the cartoon posters imagination. I had a Dreamcast in 2000. I remember mostly playing Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis, and NFL2k. I also had Metropolis Street Racer and Quake but I didn't like FPS games and didn't play that very much. Oh also Shenmue, which was good, and Jet Grind Radio which I didn't play either. This concept of "gamers" came out in the 2000's some time. In those days only massive losers sat at home and played pc games like Half Life all day. Most people my age (19) were busy having sex with their girlfriend and watching movies and going to work. Video games were something we did occasionally for an hour or two after smoking weed or whatever.
>>12613592I'm on this board now because I'm old and have time to go back and play these games, most of which I heard of but never actually played. Everything else in our society has gotten much worse so playing old video games is a better use of time than it used to be.
