the special suits in mario 3 are up there because they are so rare but i gotta go with the stage clearing items in bubble bobble. they will appear for a limited time in random spots and sometimes it can be quite a race to get to them. they had various different effects that all felt powerful and unique. sometimes they would start a bonus stage or let you skip levels. all the different things to collect and see what they do really makes the game.
