Was and/or is Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou the Smells Like Teen Spirit of space shooters?
>>12613942Until about a week ago I didn't even know this game existed. Now I'm real tempted to get the switch port even if I should be saving my money atm.
>>12614329the ps4 version has slightly less input delay and more active online leaderboards if those are things you care about, still good on switch though. everyone should play daioujou.
mork on the 'log
Garbage memoslop
why no good ending though
>>12614895What does this criticism even mean? All games are memorisation
the latest zoomer algoslop
>>12614919Except for Roguelikes, Simulations, turn based RPGs, and maybe some puzzles, yes all action games are just twitchy reflexes and muscle memory instead of strategy and tactics.
>>12614919In some extreme cases, they really are. But people don't say that they are "pure memorizers", but only that they are overly based on memorization, which is true for a considerable portion of shmups. This is easy to understand. Shmups are auto scrollers. In some of them, the position of enemies was determined by the level designer, and they always enter the screen at exactly the same moment. In many cases, these enemies also follow the same script, and often they have a predetermined pattern of projectiles.Even though there is some variation due to your position, the types of enemy attacks, and some RNG elements, the overall situation is quite predetermined. To make things even "worse", some shmups have evolved to the point where you don't really need to aim at enemies, your shots cover a large part of the screen, and you are kind of choosing entire areas where you will concentrate your firepower. This allows you, as a player, to severely reduce the entropy on the screen. In games where your shooting power is pathetic, like 1942, the game is 99% pure chaos. It's all based on RNG and you're constantly reacting. I'm not saying this is a good thing, because 1942 isn't a very good shooter in the first place, but it's a good example of how low firepower gives enemies much more room to start generating chaotic situations where pure memorization is no longer that valuable.summary: the action in many shoot 'em ups is fairly predetermined, and you as a player have the ability to make it even more predetermined. Because of this, memorizing things gives you enormous advantages, much more so than in most other game genres, it's like an inbred mudslim who memorized the whole quran or a subsaharan monkey who speaks several languages of his country + french and english thinking it's an achievement or that it makes him intelligent, memorization is the lowest form of "skill", it's just mindless repetition, do something enough times and muscle memory does its job.
>>12615003>roguelikes are memo because you memorize what your tools do and what the enemies do>simulators are memo because you memorize what resources you need>jarpigs are memo because you memorize how to read and readyou're an illiterate nigger shitting and coping "dayum i aint memorizin no muhfuggin book nigga">>12615012the nigger doesnt understand how to read. he thinks reading a book for the first time is memo
>>126150210 strategy and 0 tactics 0 emergent gameplay involved, give a little kid a kid any shmup and they will be able to understand it immediately, give a FF7 and they probably wont know what the fuck is going on
>>12615038my first clears were pokemon yellow and paper mario etcgive a kid a shmup and he either credit feeds (and doesnt beat the game) or throws a tantrum and rage quits (and doesnt beat the game)Just like you
What the hell is with the shmup versus jrpg debate????????it's too random, the two genres are entirely different for folks to compare, it's like comparing water to iron
>>12614904were your expectations subverted?
>>12615057it's an existential debate, like nazism vs communism. We both hold irreconcilable contradicting ideas of what video games are and what they should be. In the end, the lowest common denominator profit motive won and every game became an RPG. Piggers have the entire internet to gloat, but they still need to come and invade every dissident corner because deep down inside they are sad people, doubtful and insecure.
>>12615075I don't know what makes a human act like that, it's just sad and worthy of pity.
>>12615012Don't forget that the scoring system in shmups actively pushes the player into gameplay which is extremely linear and repetitive. Shmups discourage player expression or dynamism. This is the complete opposite to open and fluid systems like you find in JRPGs.
>>12615083Most people agree JRPGs are more fun than shmups because JRPGs are a casual genre targeting the mainstream audience, shmups target hard core gamers, leave our threads !
>>12615057A single schizo from /vg/ has been forcing this dumb rivalry for years, when anyone who actually plays and enjoys games plays a wide variety
^tranny meltdown
you're literally a discord tranny who first posted on 4chan in 2019 luhmow
Shmup threads are always dead and used only to shitpost. Only two trannies legitimately post in them.
>>12613942>generic asset flip space shooter>released in 2000>more than 10 years after the genre was considered outdated slopBig yikes from me dog
Why are shmuptrannies allowed to freely spam dogshit threads?
>>12615169Thanks for proving my point
I will leave this place and keep working on my 1CC shmup goals.
>>12615003what the fuck are you talking about, strategy and tactics are almost always present in action games. memorization of enemy patterns also occurs even in turn based games.
>>12615210Enjoy your aphantasia

>>12613942i wish you and everyone like you didnt have hands
Honestly, these types of games bore me. Because games like DoDonPachi it's really the memorization of certain routes and enemies that show up that ables you to master it if you remember it enough times to play through.
>>12618195muscle memory, games like that require frame-perfect inputs learning the exact enemy spawn patterns takes weeks of trial and error
