Not sure what I did wrong since the game just began but>enemies regularly deal 20+ damage>random imp and lion mobs have a Counter attack that deletes half your health if you dare to attempt dealing damage>missing multiple 90% hit chances in a row (probably not actually 90%...)>get opening for a big attack and.... GUARDED, fuck you>battles take forever and the opening is spent just moving people around without combatUnironically filtered me back to playing snappy and fun FF games like FF7.
FFT and Vagrant Story are terrible games that look kino until you actually play them.
>>12615221i believe the term is filtered
equip the chemist's item skill as your secondary skillbam you can now heal all the time and makes the game easy
i had literally no trouble with this game at all, but its maybe because i played FFTA and knew the value of units with unique skillsets. FFT dumps a bunch of them on you and you're encouraged to use their OP powers.
>>12615993The entire first chapter is a series of tutorial fights that try to teach you concepts like directional facing, utilizing terrain and bottlenecks, benefits to melee/ranged/magic units and how to counter them, etc. Broken class combinations are a substitute for actually learning how to play.
game is unplayable without emulator speed up. random battles take 10 minutes otherwise and you gain jp ridiculously slow
>>12616120I thought so. I played maybe 3 missions before calling it quits. It seemed unjustifiably slow for being so shallow.
>>12616118>broken class combinationsI'm not talking about that, I'm talking about how half your team is special units with long range magic sword abilities. But yes facing and such make it much easier. Like I said, I learnt that in FFTA already by the time I played this. Irregardless, it seems like your post is an LLM slop.
>>12616272>I'm talking about how half your team is special units with long range magic sword abilities.? You only get a total of 4 named units over the course of the game that applies to, one of them is basically just an oracle with instant cast and a beefy chicken spell, and one of them basically makes the other two redundant. Magic sword classes are quite strong, but they're not exactly the strongest units can get in the game, nor a definitive playstyle.>But yes facing and such make it much easier. My point was that every fight in chapter one is designed around those strategies being the path of least resistance, so its kinda hard to not learn how they work to use in the rest of the game. You don't need to play another game in the series which has weaker versions of those strategies, and I actually like FFTA from a gameplay perspective.>LLM slopThe fuck is this gay shit? This is FFT, we only talk about SCCs here.
>>12616279alright man. take care
>>12616279/vr/ is completely mind broken by shitposting to the point they think any post they dont agree with comes from a single person using bots and chatgpt to flood the board with "wrong" opinions.
>>12615218It isn't as good as the sequels.
Trying to do Dorter at the very beginning and I'm hopelessly outmatched in terms of forces and damage output. This is supposed to be a tutorial...
>>12616317Sadly that shit does happen far too much, but you'd think people would be able to recognize that its usually focused on trying to be divisive to try to force engagement. I just refuted that the game encourages you to break it, since some people think frogmancy accumulation like you're playing a DBZ filler episode isn the kind of shit the game tries to teach you.
>>12616329>This is supposed to be a tutorial...It is. The top archer is positioned specifically to show you how bows work and how to approach them, Algus and Delita can generally rush him without you even needing to do anything, closing distance quickly and throwing rocks/rushing him off the ledge if he positions near it. The mages have a charge time, which teaches you to approach slowly to draw them closer and rush them while they're casting. The knight shows that defending casters is effective so that you will know to do the same yourself. And of course since the fight is spread out enough, you're likely to have at least one enemy permadie so you can see them turn into a chest or crystal, likely learning at least one ability if they drop a crystal. It doesn't need Alma yapping in your ear explaining this shit every other turn for people to intuit that kind of stuff.
I beat this game when I was 10 years old without internetgit gud
>>12616352Yeah I just tried to grind off a random battle and the chocobos just refilled their health back to full by picking up crystals that formed literally the moment before their turn.Dropped like a fucking rock...
>>12616367>Birds are literally smarter than me, game sucks my guys :(
>>12616317That's ridiculous. There's obviously more than one faggot doing it.
didn't realize FFT was the ultimate filter
>>12616329This is to be expected if it's your first TRPG. Just grind out Auto Potion on a few units and the rest of the game will be smooth sailing.
>>12616120>emulator speed upYou didn't beat the game.
>>12616367Play FFTA instead.
>>12616791>t. faggot
>>12615218Welcome to the era of bullshit trial and error game design This is a strategy rpg where 99% of your strategy comes from pre-battle building The actual battles themselves are designed to be dogwalked IF you built correctlySo how do you know what classes and skills are good? You simply don’t until you retry a battle or look at a guide
>>12616830Filtered, if you weren't a bot.
>>12615218Spend your time farming easy points and maxing out jobs.Make sure to get Auto-Potion on Squire I think.Be careful and make safety saves. If you are comfortable try the next battle. If its easy move on, if not go back to farming. If you are on an emulator increase the game speed and also look up the menu glitch to max jobs fast. The game and story is great, I'm not a fan of any of the old Square endings though.Especially with the grind of this game.
I just finished some retro games and I've been meaning to pick up a strategy or rpg game and start from scratch till finish, is this a good game? I ONLY got 20-30 mins max play time per day (self limit).
>>12616850>I ONLY got 20-30 mins max play time per day (self limit). This is not the game for you.
>>12616329Did you change classes? By Dorter you should have access to knight, black mage, and white mage at the absolute minimum.
>>12616858You literally do not have enough JP to do that.
>>12616859You literally unlock those in normal play by the second battle, max.
>>12616869You do not. Go start a new game with zero grinding.
>>12616850>I ONLY got 20-30 mins max play time per day (self limit).this is one of the worst possible games you could play
>>12616871You only need 200JP to get to Lv2 in Squire or Chemist, and you start with a random amount of it already. If you can't land a few hits per character in the three battles before Dorter I don't know what to tell you.
>>12616884>it's just 200 more JP
>>12616886You start with 100-199. That's an average of 150, in a game where at the absolute minimum you will gain 11 per action.
>>12616890>you see goy
>>12615218god zoomers are dumb as shiti beat this game without much effort when i was like 10 years old>>12615993>i had literally no trouble with this game at allbecause you weren't worn with brain damage, unlike OP
>>12616871Dunno what to tell you anon but my starting chemist has Lv2 squire and Lv2 Chemist after Gariland.
>>12616904Holy shit you're one stupid glownigger.
It's like FF12 where gear matters far more than levels. For human characters. So if you stop moving forward the monsters that show up continue to scale with you but don't need gear to kick your ass. It's just piss poor planning on the dev side because they knew to keep story fights at a set level but the scaling mobs still fuck you if you try to redo maps on your own to build for beating the story maps. The gear that breaks the game is locked by shops and story progress so if you don't know this you're gonna have a bad time. And there's no reason to assume this without being told.
>>12616931You can steal from scaled humans by the way.
>>12616931>It's just piss poor planning on the dev side because they knewI hate backseat game designers. What games have you made? Fuck off.
>>12616952I'm right though. You going on an unrelated tangent doesn't change that. If you don't know the gear is the problem you would have no clue why you're constantly swimming upstream. Stealing gear with a thief means you already know why. Which you don't as a first time player. You get your ass kicked in Dorter than ping pong between Sweegy and Plains with monsters that get increasingly more difficult to kill while you don't get much stronger in comparison. Lots of people drop the game there.
>>12616892>>12616913Why do anons start lashing out when getting BTFO instead of just saying something like "Wow I'm wrong."
>>12616975>wikitranny all the enjoyment out of a game made during times where information was scarce>omg how it could break
>>12616892seethe AND mald
>>12616367>Outwitted by a chicken
>>12616778Am I the only person on Earth who beat this game without grinding?
>>12616841>Grind before every battle and glitch to max your levels!Or... and this may seem like a crazy idea... Learn to play the game?
>>12616850FFTA is much better for that time limit as it is designed to be picked up and put down in bursts. Only the intro and ending will exceed that.
>>12616329Dorter is the first real map, the fights before it are the tutorial.>>12617036It's a trait common among the terminally wrong
>>12616913What makes him a "stupid glownigger"? The fact he made an ass of you on a mongolian basket weaving forum?
>>12617218Cool story, anon. If you didn't grind, you definitely had the game spoiled for you and knew what to do. You just can't beat this game without a little grinding or some serious exploiting, either through knowledge of the game or some cheese. Story locations scale faster than progression.
>>12616850The Shining Force series makes a great introduction to the series>No Perma Deaths>Don't need to worry about directional facing>Covers most of the basics regarding positioning units (minus facing)>Unit promotions>Can suspend save mid battle to fit your time limit requirement>progress like a jrpg, replaces random encounters with a linear series of setpiece battles (Some have random encounters as well, but can always be avoided)>As long as your main unit has 8mp, can always retreat and regroup (aka grinding if you really need it)>Multiple battles designed around gimmicks to adapt to>Fun stories and characters>multiple difficulties in most gamesThey're cozy, and give you a good foundation to build off of with more complicated games.
>>12616931>It's just piss poor planning on the dev side because they knew to keep story fights at a set level but the scaling mobs still fuck you if you try to redo maps on your own to build for beating the story mapsIts an anti-grind mechanic. Despite what most retards claim, you're not supposed to throw rocks and accumulate to level 99 before Dorter. Chocobos are pretty much specifically designed to outpace you if you grind with most classes outside of thief and ninja, and red/black chocobos will one shot you at high levels if you don't bulk the fuck up. Practice some self control and play the game as intended instead of meeting every challenge by trying to be OP.
>>12619302> If you didn't grind, you definitely had the game spoiled for you and knew what to doYou'd hate games like XCOM, then. Utilizing terrain, bottlenecking, lightning rod units, status ailments, etc are all far more useful than grinding. Hell, even with grinding, you can grind out abilites to make you absurdly OP after only a few battles if you understand how things work, as abilities and job classes are far more important than levels. If you need babby mode, just unlock accumulate and a monk and you'll be hitting the damage limit after a few turns even at low levels with just basic classes.>Story locations scale faster than progression. Not by much, but experience gains also scale by level difference. If you fall behind, you'll level up faster. You're supposed to fight random encounters as you get them, not reload save states until they don't pop or skip all of them entirely on the remake. If you're fighting them as they come, you should at worst only be a level or two under enemy human units.
>>12615221fbpb. Played FFT last year for the first time, and it is just a gigantic grindfest with a really horrible softlocking boss towards 65% of the way through the game. Also story based characters that are completely fucking overpowered it invalidates most time you put into the normal classes and units you have. 7/10 would not recommend other than for historical purposes.
>>12619817Ok? You're just talking like someone who knows how to play the game. It's irrelevant. Also, ai've played Xcom. Also irrelevant.
>>12619302>Story locations scale faster than progression.Rage baiters can't deny this simple fact.
>>12620287Meanwhile, in Disgaea, if you fully understand the systems, you can easily beat the final boss with a ~20 level deficit.
>>12620287>He's playing the modern port that lets you skip random encounters
>>12620542>He’s defending it
>>12620548Damn right I am. Good talk.
