What's the most underrated part of Sonic's moveset? For me, it's his insta-shield.
>>12618392I guess looking up and down. Sonic doesn't have many moves, and it's not very often that you look around.
>>12618396You can look up and press either jump buttons to enter the super peelout in SCD.
>>12618392Would be good if the insta shield's bullet deflection could kill enemies.
>>12618392Yeah as a kid I never made any use out of it, I just wasn't aware of it, thought it was just a way for the game to tell you "nuh-uh, you don't have any powerup"
Insta shield is mostly just useful for defeating spiked enemies, though the timing is pretty strict.iirc you can use it to land on and jump up off spikes without taking damage.
The insta shield sucks. It only exists because the spin dash was such a clever innovation that it set a precedent for adding a new move every game. They were obligated to create something for Sonic 3 and their hearts clearly weren’t in it, resulting in a near-useless single frame hitbox extension. It doesn’t make any sense either. What are the transparent parenthesis around Sonic even supposed to be? Not retro, but the drop dash is such a vastly superior evolution of Sonic’s abilities compared to the instashit it’s almost shocking.
>>12620235>Not retroTechnically it is, the drop dash was dropped during S3's development.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK0QLS5Y5_s
>>12620241Generational fumble
>>12620292IKR? It's insane they ever thought of the idea from the start.
