I beat the Puyo Puyo Box story mode last week, and accidentally did the last two areas in the wrong order.
When I did the boss fight against Schezo it was the craziest game of Puyo Puyo I've ever played. I didn't time it, but it felt like it went on for like 15-20 minutes.
He took me all the way up to the top of my board, the danger music started playing, I worked all the way back down to the bottom, got into a crazy mintues-long shootout with him, before finally building up a wacked out unorthodox vertical Diacute that just baaaarely did enough damage to kill him.
I refused to just give up, but I'd assumed for so long that I was going to lose, and I was so tired and my eyes were watering, that when he keeled over and the music stopped, for a moment I thought I'd lost, and I was like "Why did I lose!? My board was almost all the way clear!" before I finally realized I'd won.

Puyo Puyo is so fucking fun.

OP could've started with a less faggy game and his (sorry, xir) thread wouldn't have immediately flopped. Sad.

Ah, it was all because of console wars. Thanks for clarifying.
Lmao imagine being a console warrior, no wonder you project your homosexuality like that.

Shingata Kururin Pa!

All blocks are 2x1 and the same color, but have fuses pointing a random direction. you connect the fuses with bombs / items and ignite them all at once for a combo. Also, each character has a unique item that determines their playstyle.

I feel like there should be a distinction between puzzle game like tetris that have you reflexively move shit around or piece shit together, and games that require you to sit and think through a solution.
I enjoy the former but absolutely hate the latter.

>distinction between puzzle game like tetris that have you reflexively move shit around or piece shit together
"match 3"
"falling block game"

there's also deduction games like picross, minesweeper, and sudoku which are single solution, but up to you to piece it together based on the starting hints. simon tathum's puzzle games has a good collection of deduction games.

lots of match X or falling block games have a puzzle mode where you have to achieve a certain objective like destroy all blocks in a few nonrandom moves.

PAC-attack is pacman themed and you drop 3-block shapes of solid blocks, ghosts and occasionally a pacman. the solid blocks will clear rows like tetris and the ghosts will be eaten by pacman who falls downward and will move left and right and dies when there's nowhere else to go. the whole idea is you build paths of ghosts for pacman to eat which combos with the solid blocks that then fall and form a solid row that is removed for points. has 2 olayer versus and puzzle modes like other games of this genre.

Here's a comprehensive guide:

To summarize it more basically though, the more points you earn as a result of dropping a single pair of puyos, the more you fill your opponent's nuisance queue. This is how you fill your opponent's board with bad puyos and defeat them.
The score you earn from clearing Puyo is multiplied by the length of the chain. So the longer your chain lasts (i. e. the more time you're waiting before your next pair of puyos falls and you regain control) the more points you earn.
This is the only multiplier, so it's the most important factor for score.

You also score more points by clearing big groups of the same color of puyo, and clearing more different colors of puyo in the same chain.

Other ways to earn points include dropping puyos quickly by pressing down, and getting All Clears. These points are stored until the next time you clear puyos. However, not all games in the series give points for these.

The .webm in my post shows how to make a pattern called "3-1 Stairs." This is a relatively easy pattern to learn that earns a lot of points.
When you're starting out, you can just focus on making this pattern, and worry about learning everything else as you improve.
