This filtered Roger Ebert so hard he was mindbroken into hating all video games
>>
literally who
>>
>>12618740
understandable
>>
>>12618740
>all video games
thats not true because he liked the kyoto artfag game and you would know this if you keep up with eggberts vidya tendencies
>>
also Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is the best thing he ever did, I respect him as a "reviewer" since he gave my buddy Jim Van Bebber a good review for his Manson Family film
>>
>>12618750
>literally who

That's pretty fair if it was your 1st and only experience with gayman. Imagine if instead of the nes coming with Mario it came with this game? How many people would have been completely miserable with it? They'd probably write off games altogether or the master system would have taken over.
>>
>>12618816
I find it an odd choice for your first game (or at least the one that stood out in his mind) was the Turtles games, when he didn't even like the Turtles movie.
>>
>>12618750
he's that fat dude that runs his mouth. he used to be a meme here, we'd post his pic when someone said something stupid or was posting anime. hangs out with a gay guy that doesn't talk as much.
>>
>>12618782
Some ancient boomer who told the younger boomers which movies to be psyoped by. He died decades ago and people only remember him for saying video games aren't art.
>>
>>12618825
He was very eloquent and passionate about films
If someone posted here the same way he wrote about movies brown zoomers would claim it was AI
>>
>>12618825
>He died decades ago
2013 was 13 years ago. Not decades ago.

I'm old enough to remember when he was part of a duo called Siskel & Ebert, but the Siskel guy did die decades ago. Then it was just him, and now he's also gone.

And you're wrong about him being a "boomer". He was part of the Silent Generation which came before Boomers. Anyway yeah, you can't expect someone from his time to be able to appreciate video games.
>>
>>12618830
So he was passionate about jewish hollyslop and built his entire life around worshipping it. ok
>>
I was at a preview of Return to Silent Hill with Christophe Dana and he said back with the first movie he had an argument with Ebert and called him a prick because Ebert thought video games weren't a real art and making VG inspired movies was tarnishing cinema.
>>
>>12618886
>Dana

Gans*
I don't know how zoomers cope with this smartphones thing
>>
>>12618750
you need to be 18 or older to post here, zoomie
>>
>>12618816
>Imagine if instead of the nes coming with Mario it came with this game?

That sounds... okay to me. Not ideal, but okay.
>>
>>12618886
Based Ebert.
>>
>>12618832
>Anyway yeah, you can't expect someone from his time to be able to appreciate video games.

Yeah but you can expect him to refrain from casting judgement on it without seriously investigating a single example of it, based on some half-baked simplistic idea about how art cannot possibly involve interaction with the audience or some such crap. He was just really stupid about this issue, for some reason.
>>
>>12618886
Ebert was right.
>>
>>12618825
>>12618832
>>12618886
He really liked Cosmology of Kyoto
>>
>>12618740
And somehow Ebert's opinion mindbroken you so much that you decided to post this
>>
>>12618979
>Ackshually *snorts* one time he played this one non-game no one has heard of
You sure deboonked him there genius.
>>
>>12618948
>Music is art
>Graphic design is art
>Developing interfaces is art
>Cinematic shorts are art
>Put them all together
>NO NOT ART
Why
>>
>>12619173
You'll find most of that stuff at a carnival, are carnivals art?
>>
goddamnit
>>
>>12618740
It's a good game, and much easier now as an adult. The Technodrome makes the dam look easy.
>>
Retards and trannies trying to prove him wrong about games not being art are what ruined videogames forever
>NOOOOOOOO YOU DON'T GET IT I'M NOT WASTING MY TIME I'M I'M I'M A GENIUS ARTISTÉ THAT UNDERSTANDS DEEP ART NOT A MANCHILD THAT SPENDS HOURS IN FRONT OF A CONSOLE AND A TV GOING BING BING WAHOO
>>
>>12619397
Vidya doesn't have the full weight of the jews behind it to give it a veneer of respectability like Hollykike.
>>
>>12619173
Gameplay and game design is art too. A lot of "Gaming IS art!" defenders forget this and post super pretentious and cinematic games as proof instead of appealing to the core of the medium.
>>
>>12619264
Yeah. Well played sports, a great rally stage time, the design of a car, are all art to some degree. Human creativity and passion is ultimately inherently artistic and that includes carnivals and carnival games.
I'd also say that the most corporate sludge out there is still art. Just really soulless and empty art.
>>
>>12618818
Most platformers of that era can be effortlessly reskinned into another IP
>>
>>12619451
so what?
>>
>>12618832
Siskel was the only one I liked. He liked Stallone, Swartznigger and Willis.
>>
>>12619552
So propaganda isn't art. Ebert was a retard.
>>
>>12619456
The French have a term for it, translates roughly into the "grand show", which states the performance as a whole is what can make something an art. It was originally applied to stage plays that incorporated the actors' performances, the writing and plot, along with the music a band would play.

Video games are all about the combination of various pieces in order to form something greater than itself. Gameplay is simply an extension of analog sets of rules you'd find in real life sports or competitions, which is backed by the artistic presentation. It's why I still attest that Super Metroid is probably the best example of "art" in the entire medium, because nothing else really combines gameplay, graphical presentation, audio design, and pacing in such a compact package. The gameplay is great for sure, but it's the other things that truly elevate the game.
>>
>>12618740
dont you mean AVGN
>>
>>12618740
the opinions of a one ugly stupid childless boomer are of no value.

it is literally some spastic redditor (pre-reddit) who happened to be given a tv-show to make his shitposts.

he and his opinions do not matter, they are farts in the wind
>>
>>12619674
Gameplay and interactivity are the main thing that separates games as an art form from anything else however- I feel like highlighting that and being especially critical about what it does uniquely helps when it comes to discussions of proving gaming as an art form.
Appealing to cinema and emotion creates the implication that some games are art while most others are not and most if not all of them need to have some sort of cinematic bend or stand to make a point rather than simply just exist to exist- this fundamental misunderstanding is why we get a lot of overly cinematic and pretentious movie games like mixtape, life is strange, dustborn, and a lot of the modern Sony first party catalogue.
This doesn't mean that only cave shmups, 3d platformers, and Tetris are "art" but I think they should be analyzed and praised more for their artistic merits.

Super Metroid is kino though I wholeheartedly agree
>>
>>12618767
Cosmology of Kyoto was based a fuck. That game was way cooler than Myst, Ebert had good taste.
>>
>>12619056
I was just commenting. Why are you so confrontational?
>>
>>12618740
I had zero issue with these underwater bomb defusal levels as a chil; what fucked me up later in the game was this one weird jump where you'll hit your head on the ceiling and flub it if you hold down the jump button instead of just quickly tap it, took me weeks to realize that the game used button press length to affect jump heights.
>>
>>12619930
Because your gay attempt at a gotcha doesn't contribute anything, and if anything reinforces what OP was saying since that's a proto walking sim not an actual game
>>
>>12619784
Zoomers will say this and then go watch video essays on games made by retards who know nothing about the subject
>>
>>12620045
Video essays on vidya are better than video essays on jewish propaganda. Sorry Ebert, you wasted your life.
>>
games > art
games have always been more important than art and this has always been a dumb debate. Whether Ebert was right or wrong is irrelevant, don't be tricked into caring.
>>
>>12620445
Arr is actually important when it’s timeless White paintings. Ebert’s favorite (((propaganda))) doesn’t quite measure up.
>>
>>12619462
So a bunch of people paying money to pet goats and eat cotton candy is an art form to you?
