Those 70s and 80s logic circuits did turn out to be pretty indestructible, although I don't know if they expected that at the time. It's harder to say if we're beating that right now. At least we probably don't have a capacitor plague anymore.

The Masterbation System always deserves more homebrew, so seeing a high profile dev do it is always neat to see. Would like to see some of the old Sega 8bit japs to come together and make a new game for it.
