You now remember that Unreal Gold exists. It's a shame that Epic pretty much disowned this classic legendary title full of SOVL. Do you anons have any fond Unreal Gold memories?
the main theme is badasshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--5COmk8ZM0&list=RD--5COmk8ZM0&start_radio=1
>>12620715I just played it recently, the graphics were truly impressive at the time
What is Gold about it? I remember playing a demo of Unreal (never the full game), and I played Unreal Tournament, but I don't remember any Gold.
>>12620763It uses an updated version of the Unreal engine and it includes the Return to Na Pali expansion
>>12620715I beat it on unreal difficulty recently. It's either too annoying with bullet sponges enemies or too easy and boring with enemies that pose no threat.
>>12620763It's gold because it's the "Complete/finished Edition" like gold disc. Also it got a gold UI.
>>12620715Epic games died a long time ago, they're just a shitty engine/Fortnite developer now.
>>12621258they always were, unreal and gears were just shitty throwaway games to push their engine.
>>12620769Also uses the Unreal Tournament style menu system as well.
>>12620715My first UT was 2004 and I remember replaying the free demo to death in the mid-2000s. I also remember how big UT and Quake were around that time and Fatal1ty.
Unreal 2 was a lot of fun. Played it on Xbox. Unreal I liked initially but about ten levels in and it was getting repetitive and mazey.
Time for color
>>12622571
Fuck these guys
People stopped caring about Unreal once UT was released
>>12623938>>12623938This is true, unfortunately. Unreal Gold is the only singleplayer campaign game we ever saw on that old engine, which is a shame, because even to this day I find that it looks amazing. It feels weird saying that a multiplayer tournament game overshadowed a singleplayer game way back then, but it did.
>>12624221>Unreal Gold is the only singleplayer campaign game we ever saw on that old engineYou mean in the Unreal franchise right?
https://youtu.be/fThXiaQtPKM?si=aM0dKtcXSDQqYkqMYes I know this is technically from the shitty expansion, but it's still my favorite track.
>>12620715loved playing unreal and unreal tournament.also was delighted to know a source port, oldunreal, exists and runs on linux perfectly.
>>12624572Yes.>>12624574I liked the expansion, it could have been better but I felt as though it expanded a bit while staying true to the original. What more can you ask for? I just thought there should have been more levels and less underwater areas.
>>12624574My favorite is the one you only get to hear for a minute in a cutscenehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtjNUQ3-XNY
For me it's the Guardian
Has anyone played through Steel Dawn? What's it like? Is it worth playing?
>>12620715>You now remember.I never forgot. I try to replay Unreal every two or three years.>Fond memories.I remember jumping off high places like in the Sunspire or Bluff Eversmoking the first time I played it. I also felt very frustrated with enemies avoiding my shots because I came from playing Quake 2's singleplayer shooting gallery (I played Unreal in 2000 after UT99).Other moments I had:>Fighting the titan before entering the crash-landed ship instead of running and finding myself with no ammo inside the ship.>Shitting my pants in that part where Skaarj jump out some vents in waves before you exit a ship, ending up hiding in a room and spamming the Ripper towards the door because they were sodomizing me every time I tried to fight them on the halls.>Savescumming to try and save every Nali on each map.>Rarely using the bio-rifle because I killed myself with it by accident more than in UT99.>>12622851This is why you gimp hitscan weapons in your FPS.
>>12624221>it feels weird saying that a multiplayer tournament game overshadowed a singleplayer gameFunnily enough, this (kinda) happened again with Fortnite. Developed for nearly a decade as a cooperative horde tower defense shooter, but then the battle royale mode they slapped together in weeks ended up overshadowing it.
>>12620715I played this coop and it was a fucking blast man. Unreal is honestly criminally under rated. UT overshadowed it so massively that I feel almost obligated to tell everyone to play it now. The maps blow anything quake ever had out of the water along with one of the best fps sound tracks you could get at the time.HABOODEE
Threadly reminder that you can download Unreal Gold for free. Since Epic disowned it, they put up a link for download on a website, explaining that it's in a grey area it's not legal or illegal to download their free game, but they don't care either way.
>>12625271I played with my friend and his brother last year co-op thru the whole thing, it was awesome. There was section where we tried launching each other to the top of the map when you get out of the water temple, the area with the village and the tower with the flak-canon.
>>12625271I quite enjoy Unreal Gold's multiplayer (even if it is just bots) Beyond the sun is by far my favorite map to play in Deathmatch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKENRiSbMEA
I want to see what they had cooking with the cancelled PSX version. It would have had all new levels and weapons.
>>12625292Hell yeah man.>>12625301Thing is UT exists because Unreal had great MP.
>>12620715Im still pissed that they delisted the whole Unreal series. They act like it doesnt even exist now. Their flagship product is named after it for fuck sake. What problems was keeping for sale a 20 year old game that like 10 people still play causing? It was a pointless move to scrub the company's history. Good thing its one of the easiest to pirate games right next to Doom.
>>12625665Apparently they wanted to shutdown the master servers for the multiplayer
i was a massive UTfag back in the day because my dad got it for me on emule, but missed Unreal Gold, recently tried playing the new free version on my pc but it ran slow as hell, what settings should i use? i do remember Unreal 2 and 3 kinda sucked ass though
>>12626284Are you referring to UT3? Because there is no Unreal 3.
>>12624606>What more can you ask for? I just thought there should have been more levels and less underwater areas. This is why I love Return to Na Pali Ultimate for bringing back the beta levels. I also missed the original campaign's more seamless level transitions, so I don't miss that they got rid of the voiced cutscenes.
>>12625665>Good thing its one of the easiest to pirate games right next to Doom. This is true, but you don't need to "pirate" it anymore. Go search the free download and don't talk about it too much. That's the deal Epic has with gamers right now.
I used to play on the won.net co-op servers with dial up internet, good times.
also music is amazing.
