Which console had the best couch multiplayer lineup?
Probably Nintendo 64But I still prefer SNES because of Kirby Super Star and games like Pocky&Rocky and Secret of Mana.Special mention for Sega Saturn for Saturn Bomberman
Irrelevant question, no one here has friends.
>>12622723>>12622726It's the PS2 and it's not even close.Forgetting all other multiplats like Nightfire, Timesplitters, the Smackdown games released till 2011, and the PS2 is the only console of that time that lets you do 3v3 matches or even 6 player free for alls, both of which you wouldn't see until Smash Ultimate.
>>12622723Smash is easily the best couch multiplayer game
It's Dreamcast. Especially for arcadey co-op games, nothing else even comes close.
>>12622736>Image has mostly single player gamesNot sure if trolling but what are some good co-op games in the veing of Kirby Super Star or Pocky & Rocky on PS1 or 2? Actually been looking for them
N64 is king, no contest. MK64, Smash, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, F-Zero, Gauntlet, Starfox, tons of racing games, wrestling games and so on. Even a lot of the singleplayer games became pseudo-multiplayer experiences if you lived in a northeast suburban culdesac type environment, because everybody had most of the same games and you'd sit around taking turns on Banjo or OoT sharing tips and tricks with each other. If you were there, you get it.
>>12622785This and no accessories needed for N64 other than controllers and maybe a memory pak for the controller if people wanted to bring their own characters etc. I'm sure some of the other games and systems mentioned were good, but NOBODY I knew growing up had a multi-tap or whatever equivalent.
>>12622723I remember Xbox being the preferred local multiplayer consolePutting aside dragging multiple consoles and TVs to one guys house and using LAN, Halo's coop and splitscreen pvp was like 75% of what my friends and I ever wanted to playIt had other games and we played some of those too, San Andreas two player mode was funN64 and Gamecube can give the Xbox a run for it's money, but in my area we all wanted to play Xbox like 9/10 times we hung out
>>12622723The one with Halo
N64 for 4 playersSNES for 2 players
>>12622792>>12622802It’s either the N64 or the original Xbox. So many games have coop or 4 player split screen games. I don’t think it’s even close w how many are on each system and they came w 4 controller ports knowing this was going to be a big part of the gaming experience for these consoles.
>>12622723I grew up with two brothers, so I was always playing couch multiplayer. We mostly played N64, then later Gamecube for Smash/Mario Kart and Xbox for Halo games. On N64, we played a ton of Goldeneye/Perfect Dark, Mario Kart 64, and sometimes other stuff like the South Park game or Bomberman 64. Pokemon Stadium and Star Fox 64 were fun too with friends. So overall, I'd say N64 wins.>>12622726Yeah Saturn Bomberman was great, we played a bunch of that too. Still the best Bomberman. SNES was good too, we used to play Kirby Super Star and Legend of the Mystical Ninja together.
>>12622802I went to some LAN parties in high school with Halo. We also had a Melee there, along with PCs for playing Unreal Tournament. Looking back, those are still some of my best memories of gaming with friends. >>12622763Dreamcast was good too, Power Stone 1/2, Soul Caliber, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, etc.
>>12622723GameCube>N64>Dreamcast>PS1>PS2>Genesis>SNES
>>12622736No console needing a multitap qualifies for this.
>>12622736you're a fanboy, the only answer is the n64 and I say this as someone who doesn't even like the console
>>12623294Xbox multiplayer was more tailored to online play. the only local MP games it had was fighting games.
People saying N64 are nostalgiafagging. GameCube is basically a more refined N64. Too many N64 games ran slow in 4 player
>>12622723N64 for sure, gamecube probably second place, but SNES also has some amazing multiplayer games that were fun to trade off with more than 2 people. The N64 multiplayer games were just pure fun and silliness.N64: Smash Bros, Mario Party, pokemon stadium, mario kart, F-zero, goldeneye, perfect dark, battletanx global assault, sarge's heroes, the console has about 100 games with 4 player supportGamecube: phantasy star online, smash bros melee, mario party, mario kart, super monkey ball, timesplitters future perfectSNES: Donkey Kong Country 1,2,3, F-Zero, mario kart, ninja turtles, super bomberman 2PS2 is definitely a great one as well, so many good games on the console and they have a lot of content compared to the earlier systems.
>>12623778literally Halo you stupid fuck
I was thinking of Gamecube>bomberman generations>obligatory Mario kart, smash, party>starfox assault>Soul Caliber>Sonic Gems collections>Kirby air ride>Rayman Arena>Naruto Clash of Ninjas (and Zatch Bell Mamodo Battles)>Sonic Adventure 2 Battleor maybe its the 64, but the GameCube lineup was perfect for multiplayer too
>>12623778Plenty of games for Xbox had couch coop or multiplayer: Brute Force being the biggest one w 4 player split screen. Fusion frenzy was another. Plus the online didn’t get added until like a year after launch w Xbox live.
>>12623778Another guy in another thread gave a statistic that in 2005 there were only 2 million Xbox Live accounts in NAbut there were more copies of Halo CE and 2 sold than that, many times moreI was there man, none of my friends bothered paying for Xbox Live until the 360 and Halo 3 came out, we were playing CE and 2 with LAN and splitscreen and it was a blastYea we played some Gamecube Melee and Mariokart and we busted out the N64 for Goldeneye and Star Wars Racer on occasionOne friend and I had a tradition of taking turns playing Mario on his SNESbut the og Xbox was the premier for our couch coop and splitscreen gaming, and it wasn't until we all had 360's and PS3's that we started playing primarily online
>>12622736>The system with only 2 controller ports has the best couch co-op and it's not even close, look at all these single-player games proving it
>>12624025Yeah, I played a ton of Halo 1 and 2 split-screen, almost every day, but never got Xbox Live. In hindsight, I kind of regret missing out on Halo 2 and 3 online.
>>12623848>>12623912GC was great but what makes me prefer N64 is the fact EAD were just on fire during N64. The trilogy of Wave Race 64, 1080° Snowboarding and F-Zero X is genuinely one of the highlights of 5th gen for me, EAD was doing AM2-tier arcade games on a home console.During Gamecube, all 3 got outsourced, F-Zero got a nice treatment by Sega, but WR and 1080 got okay games nade by western studios. Also you're all forgetting about Goemon's Great Adventure!
>>12624123>>12623912oh, on top of forgetting FZero I also forgot One Piece; afair PS2 Got a better Grand Battle but then GameCube got Grand Adventure. Plus we can't forget the Gamecube's form factor made it perfect for taking over to places, people make fun of its shape and size, but unironically its a good feature.
>>12624041After I got online on Halo 3, I spent a day with the ethernet cable plugged into my og Xbox and played Halo 2 on my XBL subscriptionit was aight, but by then Halo 3 was in full swing and it was easier to find games, not to mention everyone playing customs was on 3I do wish I had bought the Halo 2 map packs and downloaded them to my og Xbox
