So with Ocarina of Time getting a second remake now I was thinking of what games have had multiple remakes? What is the most remade game ever made?

The industry uses the terms remake and remaster pretty loosely so for my argument I'm going to define a remake as anytime a game is re-released with significantly redone assets. Anything else is an enhanced port, even if it has Remake or Remaster in the title.

The most remade game I can think of off the top of my head is Final Fantasy 4 which has had 3 full remakes

>FFIV: The Complete Collection on PSP
>FFIV DS
>FFIV Pixel Remaster

Is there any game with even more remakes?
>>
>>12623707
Not remade but more like re-ported, the original sonic the hedgehog is probably the most re-ported game of all time.
>>
>>12623710
Emulation doesn't count and the 8-bit versions were diff games.
>>
>>12623707
Ys 1 and 2
>>
>>12623707
Golden Axe has to be up there.
>>
Space Invaders
>>
>>12623730
holy shit yeah thats a crazy remake cycle
>>
>CTRL+F doom
>0 results
>OH BOY! THIS GAME HAS HAD TWO REMAKES! CRAZY ISN'T IT?
yawn
>>
>>12623751
Ports =/= remakes
>>
>>12623754
doom has both aplenty
>>
>>12623751
Thread only started, retarded doom faggot. Secondaries of retro gaming.
Why didnt you mention Tertis then? Gay mongoloid
>>
>>12623707
Tetris
a new remake of it gets made every six months
>>
>>12623751
doom fans are such annoying faggots, nobody gives a fuck about your shitty game

Pong? Pac-Man? Breakout?
>>
>>12623707
It depends on if you count that weird DS port of Resident Evil 1 as "significantly redone." There's of course the GameCube version and apparently they're going to remake it yet again?
>>
>>12623707
FF1 or Star Fox
>>
>>12623767
>Tetris
yeah this gets my vote but its also kinda low hanging fruit since converting the assets of a jrpg is obviously a much greater undertaking than a few blocks and backgrounds
>>
>>12623707

Someone already beat to Ys, grr
Consolary place Dragon Quest 1, I think it's been remade 7 or 8 times if you count the RPGmaker fangame

Your definition is remake is more or less what I would have said.
A remaster is what I would consider a recreation from the ground up with higher production. Re:Chain of Memories on PS2 is what I would consider a true remaster of the gba game still in the same battle system but in 3d, animated and voice acted cutscnes and even some additional content like cards for characters from KH2.

What AAA companies call 'remaster' is really 'cashgrab'.
>>
>>12623964
no cashgrab is what they do with pokemon now
>>
I suspect that publishers put their noobs on remakes to train them and farm for the good devs to move up to the A and B teams.

This would be my guess.

Another one that had a lot of updates is Branmarker:

Original PC-98
PC-9821 update with 256 colors graphics and voices
Branmarker Twin, a Windows port of the two games where B1 overworld and sprites are now in the style of B2.
Branmarker ~Shami=Risuni no Bouken~ , the full remake with completely new art.
>>
>>12623707
would the PS1 and GBA versions of FF4 count as remakes?
>>
>>12624076
>Ps1
Port
>GBA
Good question, the sprites are slightly different (if I remember correctly) and it adds more stuff.
>>
>>12623727
Excluding emulation, you still have the Sonic Jam version, the Java Version, the GBA port, the Whitehead version and the Origins port of the whitehed version.
>>
>>12623707
if we're counting ports then Rayman 2 takes the crown. If only true remakes then it's hard to find games that have gotten remade more than 3 times, dragon quest games get 2-3 remakes for some of their games. hard to think of any with 4+
>>
>the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
>Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x (also includes all of 1's levels)
>Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD (includes a selection of levels from 1 and 2)
>Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2
>>
I assume one of the Resident Evil games.
>>
>>12624076
GBA version I'd say is an enhanced port since it uses nearly identical sprites and backgrounds but its close. It has a different soundfont but thats because its necessary for the port, its definitely stretching into remake territory a little.

New content doesnt make it not a port either.
>>
>>12623707
OoT 3D isn't a remake, it's basically an HD texture pack.
>>

Literally street fighter 2.
I think there's like 12 or 18 versions
>>
>>12624483
>OoT 3D isn't a remake

It is in fact a remake, the game has been remake you just have to compare the speedrun of the 2 games it's completely different
>>
>>12624786
Actually sequels though.
>>
>>12623707
Pacman, Tetris or space invaders
>>
>>12623707
Lunar is a series with nearly a dozen games and over half of them are remakes.
>>
>>12623707
The first 3 DQ games have had like 7 remakes
>>
>>12623707
The answer is Tetris.
>>
>>12625087
Does Tetris even have one remake?
>>
Hard to believe I'm talking with people who don't know the difference between a port and a remake but here we are

>>12624507
>Game Boy Color (port of NES with new content)

GBC DQ1/2/3 are ports of the SNES versions, not NES.
>>
>>12623710
James Pond 2 was ported more.
>>
>>12623760
The SNES version, the uh...
>>
>>12623760
What doom remake is there?
I don’t even know of one
>>
>>12625190
Whenever someone has a shit opinion on a game, never forget that you're talking to people who can't even make the difference between a port and a remake.
>>
>>12623730
Gotta agree with Ys. Feels like every version up until Chronicles is different, along with some weird edge cases like Ys II Eternal.
Honorable mention to Sorcerian, which had PC and console releases, some of which had exclusive content/add-ons that the other versions didn't. The Genesis version in particular had only new scenarios, I believe.
>>
>>12623707
i think it was FF6.
>>12623734
>space invaders
i remembered lots of clones of it with different names.
>>
>>12623710
yeah, the sheer number of sonic/sega collections that include it is astounding.
>>
>>12623751
Those are ports, we're talking remade from the ground up. If we want to get technical, it got remade about two or three times, if that counts (PC doom, Jag doom being the core console version, SNES doom, and PSX Doom)
>>
>>12626008
And even if you're talking about unofficial ports and remakes, you're still wrong, because pong exists
>>
>>12625190
Apparently the dev for the snes version couldn't figure out how to port it so they rebuilt it from the ground up so that would be a remake in my eyes, even though it's not what most people think of as far as remakes go where they're updated to be like more modern games.
>>
>>12623707
snake
>>
>>12623707
I wonder why A Link to the Past never got a remake. The game is probably too huge to remake in 3D.
>>
>>12623707
Pitfall
>>
>>12626429
A remake requires new assets, not just an engine rewrite.
>>
>>12626440
It got a remake on the 3ds
>>
>>12626446
A Link Between Worlds is more of a spiritual successor.
>>
>>12626470
Fair enough but so are most remakes
>>
>>12626440
It's good as is
>>
>>12623707
How many versions of Tales of Phantasia exist now?

>>12623730
Nevermind, the answer is this
>>
>>12626617
Mate you are confusing ports with remakes
>>
>>12623707
Final Fantasy 1

MSX2 rerelease
WonderSwan Color remake
Playstation Remake
GBA Remake
PSP remake
3DS remake
2004 Mobile Phone version
2010 Mobile Phone Version
Pixel Remaster

Street Fighter 2 is probably a contender too.
>>
The original Prince of Persia
>>
>>12623710
I think RE4 and San Andreas are the most re-ported games from the 6th generation
>>
Dragonquest
>>
>>12626445
Just cause you say something that doesn't make it true.
