A year ago I had a great time finishing Hexen with Warrior and Paladin. I didn't like Mage. After this I tried Quake and Duke but appearantly I had enthusiasm for exactly one such game.

The enemy roster also feels limited when compared to Doom 2, and four weapon slots per class can be a bit of a drag, but it's all secondary to the hub-based level progression. Heretic is a much better shooter for people wanting "fantasy Doom".

Honestly the only problem I have with this game is the inventory bloat which is somewhat inevitable in any game that doesn't do inventory purges. More weapons, enemies, tome of power? Bloat and bullshit. Everything in this game feels like it has a place. There might be something to culling item stacks to 1 between hubs like between levels in Heretic. But then you would lose on the strategic value of rare items like icons. Actually, effortlessly owning Korax while invincible is kind of gay too and doesn't fit the game's image of a desperate heavy metal album cover struggle.
