Do any of you use a stick outside instead of a controller? I never have outside of an arcade.

I play every game that is feasible to do so with an arcade stick, as it is my preferred input type.

My personal set-up is

-Original Seimitsu LS-32 with Matsushita Switches
-Seimitsu PS-14-G 30mm pushbuttons
-Qanba Crystal modded with above parts

I also have several other arcade sticks modded with other parts but the above is my default controller.

Fighting game guys do, I'm sure some shmup guys do as well. I have a couple I got cheap at funcoland back in the day but none are great. The snes one was pretty solid but outside of the typical arcade genres they're not that useful. Like I might use it for r type, tmnt or sf2 but I wouldn't use it for mega man or zelda. I made a couple sticks using some usb encoder and button kits off Amazon that are ok and I use it for mame.
>>
>>12626660
i kinda want one for Dreamcast and PS2 because the controllers are only 4 face buttons. otherwise controllers are fine
>>
>>12626665
btw this lever and button combo is the stock combination used on Capcom's official arcade cabinets.

I play everything with an arcade stick. mostly NES and SNES games. the lever is just more accurate and more fun than a d-pad.
>>
>>12627973
I also have this same arcade stick and it's good enough to the point I'm not sure what I'm missing out on with the Sanwa and Seimitsu hardware.

Oh hey, that's how I map the buttons to my keyboard.
Anon called me a weirdo for doing it like that.
>>
>>12627980
I replaced both the lever and buttons with Sanwa because of the memes. the original buttons are better. the sanwa buttons feel just slightly smoother than the original 8bitdo buttons, but the activation force is annoyingly low on the Sanwa buttons so you will accidentally activate them just resting your finger on them. the Sanwa lever has a bit less travel which is better, but I also put in an oversized actuator and that really made a difference, the diagonals are a lot more natural to hit and the lever is "faster" in general. this is mostly useful for shmups or other 8-way direction games. however, the original lever is a Sanwa clone so you don't need to replace it to mod it with Sanwa parts.
>>
>>12626675
I prefer seimitsu lever and sanwa buttons
>>12626660
love sticks but I'm nomadic and they're too big. in terms of performance they're identical to pad imo but they're just so fun
>>
>>12628007
Thanks anon. I might consider a different lever at most then
>>
>>12626675
this is wrong, capcom cabinets use sanwa parts
>>
>>12628026
That is incorrect. Capcom has never used Sanwa parts on any of their own in-house manufactured cabinets. Please do not spread misinformation about this matte.
>>
>>12628051
capcom literally always used sanwas aside from US cabs
weird thing to lie to people about, are you okay mate?

No, they did not. You are an idiot who doesn't know anything about this subject.
Here is the inside of a NOS Street Fighter II control panel. LS-32 and PS-14-E buttons.

>Do any of you use a stick outside
No. Like you, my mommies won't let me go outside or play with sticks.
>>
>>12626660
I use a seimitsu ls-58 stick with sanwa buttons for all shmups and rarely some fighting games
>>
>>12628212
those are sanwa parts bro
>>
>>12626660
I bought a nice arcade stick for 6th generation that had PS2, XBOX, and Game Cube connectors. It was from a company named Pelican which I’m not sure still exists. It also had a batstick instead of ball. Suck it weebs.

The only one I've got is the 3 button Mega Drive stick but it's the UK version so it's got the shitey rubber dome stick contacts instead of the switched one the japanese got. I still enjoy it well enough though. One of these days I'll get one of the grey japanese Saturn sticks to match the early JP Saturn I have.

Name of movie/show? Context?
>>
>>12629937
Don't remember the name of the show but IIRC the guy spent some time in a correctional (?) or similar and he was trying to recover the feeling of a childhood stolen from him. At least that's what I recall from other anons.
>>
>>12630130
Interesting. That's only slightly less depressing of my original thought that the guy's [current] life wasn't very good, and he was trying to relive part of his childhood. And failing. No I'm not projecting, you're projecting.
>>
>>12629937
don't listen to the other guy. he's crying at how good the game is, despite playing it with the wrong device and on an emulator

Only arcade games. Home console games were designed with d-pads in mind, right, so some platformer with precision demands would probably suck on a stick due to its larger throw.
Check out this beauty! This one's for Tekken. For shmups and 2D fighters I have others.
>>
>>12630337
>playing it with the wrong device
It's an official sega joystick, and Sonic had an arcade release.
>>
>>12630381
it's been designed to be played with a controller.
by your metric, a touch screen is a proper way to play Sonic
>>
>>12630391
It's an acceptable method, yes.

>>12630354
The dpad only exists because of economic efficiency. A dpad costs like $.02 and a quality arcade lever is like $8 at least. All consoles have arcade stick controllers for them, especially the old school ones like nes and genesis
>>
>>12627992
The reverse is also a common mapping for six button games on a 4 button controller.
>>
>>12627980
Don't get FOMO. I have this (as well as its Xbox brother), and multiple Sanwa sticks. Due to the size it's not as mod-friendly and not very comfy on your lap, but all in all a great product. 8BitDo makes good shit.
>>
>>12627980
The sense I get is the 8bitdo arcade stick is good enough for "casual" arcade use, but not fighting game use. I don't own one though,
>>
>>12626660
For fighting games and beating them ups, sometimes
>>
>>12626660
I do almost all my retro gaming on my arcade stick; I find it much more ergonomic than any pad I've ever used.
