You are always fighting about save states, well I am going to tell you the truth. What I am about to tell you is not an opinion, it is objectively fact. Some of you can't handle the truth, but here it goes:You can use save states anytime you want if it makes you happy. You can justify the use of save states any way you want. You can say "I have more fun this way" or "I don't have the time", etc.BUT DO NOT LIE TO YOURSELF.The reason why so many people refuse to use them is not due to some purist reason or challenge. The truth is that a lot of games were designed around the use of save points. I am not here to convince you that I know what the "devs intended", but it is undeniable that save points were often deliberately placed. While it is true that save points were a limitation of the technology at the time, games incorporated these limitations. The reason there is a save point after a tough boss battle is because you could finally breathe a sigh of relief after beating the boss. The reason a certain dungeon was tougher than the others? The developers purposely didn't include a save point in it, even though all the other dungeons did. When you use a save state in an area that never had that option, it is quite literally a cheat code and can absolutely change the way the game feels and break the difficulty. Even using a save state so you can resume later is still really close to the fine line. You should only use a save state in an area where the game lets you save, and at that point you might as well just use the save point the game offers you, since it allows you to experience the save screen, save icons, etc.If you use save states, you didn't experience the game the way it was meant to be experienced. You literally (probably) cheated, and therefore, YOU DIDN'T BEAT THE GAME. This is not an opinion. It is literally a fact. But some of you can't handle the truth. Let the autistic screeching commence! Thanks for reading my blog and attending my TED Talk.
Devs are retarded. I don't care what they intended. I know better.
>>12626940>autistic screeching
>>12626930When you use save states you create a new game. It's a romhack at that point. Romhacks are fine for practicing but you didnt beat the game. You only beat the romhack you made.
>>12626940/threadGood games let you save anywhere
>>12626951>it you played the original you didn't beat my game
>>12626962>the original had save states
>play Tomb Raider on PS1>use save states>you didn't beat the gameOk, true.>play Tomb Raider on PC>save anywhere>you beat the gameMake it make sense.
>>12627010>Make it make sense. The same game can have different rulesets. Have you ever played Uno? There are like 12 different rules sets, but if you're starting a game with ruleset#3 and then decide mid-way then actually now it's going to be ruleset#7 because it suits you, then you're a cheating faggot. In the case of Tomb Raider the saving rule applies because computers were for responsible adults and also used for work so you should be able to come in and out at any time. You should also be able to save and quit quickly if your boss enters your office.
>>12627036So emulators are for responsible adults and it's fine to save state?
Good thing I just play games and gave fun instead of worrying about appeasing some faggots made up gay rules. I didn't ask for your approval and I don't need it. Eat shit OP, you and every other faggot ITT.
I used savestates AND I beat the game, and none of your autistic sperging will change my mind, or stop me from saying I beat it. I know that upsets you, and that makes me very happy.
>>12626930wasting your limited life time on parts you didn't enjoy doesn't give you bragging rights.every game should have save states, even better, rewinding.forcing to waste time redoing stuff is micromurder.
>>12626930>BUT DO NOT LIE TO YOURSELFThey can lie to themselves but they should not lie to me.... actually I treat everyone here like they're lowly savescummers no matter what they say.
>>12627063>>12627064>I mash text in VN's>I'm a slave to my backlog but I'm having fun! Really! Aren't you mad at me!?!?

>>12627082Nice projection
>>12626930I just use save states to bypass using passwords
I think saving between levels is fair
>>12627142Only if you go back and beat the game without save states
>>12627143I've already beaten the first two levels over and over again. I think we can all handwave that shit
If you used save states, guides or rewind, you didn't beat the game. Not only you cheated the game, but also yourself. You brag about your "achievements" to others, yet deep down you know that it was all fake. You didn't experience anything, the challenge, the frustration, the overcoming, improving your skills. You just took a glimpse of what the game has to offer, the same level as "beating a game watching someone else beat it on YouTube". Even a crown made with fake gold, still shines from far away. You cheated not only the game, but yourself. You didn't learn. You didn't improve. You took a shortcut and gained nothing. You experienced a hollow victory. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained. It's sad that you don't know the difference.
>>12626961Trivially easy games let you save anywhere. Good games usually are not trivially easy.
>>12627063You're stupidly missing OP's point, and you are certainly worried about following OP's rules on some level, because OP is attempting (successfully for the most part, I think) to describe objective reality, and if you let go of THAT for the sake of your short-term enjoyment and your stupid pride, then you will end up an unhappy self-involved hermit, or a crazyman ranting on a street corner, or the like.
>>12627068>bragging rights.OP didn't say anything about bragging or about beating the game being better than cheating through it. You should read the text before responding to it.
>>12627143This is obviously still cheating, albeit of a lesser order. Dudes here are just abysmally stupid about this issue. It's generally fine to cheat, and it's INSANE to claim that cheating isn't cheating and actually believe it. This should be obvious to everyone.
>>12627064Ydbtg
>>12626930>Words words words Just to tell us you didnt beat the game
>>12627156this>>12627171it's not cheating to practice. it's two separate games. when you use save states you are creating a custom rom hack. you cheated at the rom hack, but it made you better at the real game>>12627193based retard. op agrees with you

You don't 'beat' games, you 'play' them.
Its no different than using a bookmark when reading a book, if you think about it
>>12626930YOU DIDN'T BEAT THE GAME IF YOU PLAY ON EMULATORS
>>12627383Real men just remember the page number they left off at

>>12626947Surely meant to point that to the OP...
>>12627010When I played through TR1 on PC I saved into a new slot at the start of every level, until I ran out of slots then I rolled over the oldest ones. It didn't save automatically from what I recall. I beat the game that way. I am better than you.
>>12626930did not read that shit but i've been having more fun with games since i disabled savestates and fastforward and all of that other shitlike for example i beat FF3 recently, the last stretch is basically 2 dungeons and 6 bosses in a row and takes more than an hour, with no save points or heals. i died to the final boss twice. it was frustrating, i wasted a lot of time, but holy shit was it a memorable experience, beating it felt GOODif i used fastforward and savestates it would've been just another dungeon and i probably wouldnt remember shit about it
>>12627453based pigger
>>12626930agreed.anyone can experience a game however they want, like put in gameshark codes if that makes you have fun, good.but for you to claim that you "beat" the game you need to do it like it was intended to,beating a hard game is a very satisfying closure to your struggle.also note that putting some effort into it makes you a better player like it trains your focus and reflexes and abilities, and then you can beat other hard games from the experience gather.if you only play with cheats and your gameplay is super low effort>whatever I'm just doing whatever I feel without worrying or learning because I can rewind LOLyou are robbing yourself from the opportunity to get good
>>12627162Difficulty is irrelevant wether a game is good or not
>>12626930>YOU DIDN'T BEAT THE GAMEin your opinion.and in my opinion, if I got to the end, I beat the game.we don't have to agree because my experience does not affect you.
>>12627735>cheating himself out of a single player experience
>>12627383Thats more like activating a save state when you're done playing to simulate leaving the console over night. Save-scumming is more like reading a book that is difficult to understand, but instead of re-reading a couple passages, you look up an explanation on YouTube.
>>12627767I had a single player experience, anon, in fact it was exactly the experience I wanted. I didnt lose out on anything at all.
>>12627502>>but for you to claim that you "beat" the game you need to do it like it was intended to,No, and gameshark codes change the essence of the game, savestates just let you interrupt it at will. You're essentially working around a hardware limitation that many other games don't have.
>muh hardware limitations/vr/ has fallen...
>>12627810Good for you. You sound really convinced
>>12626930I fast-forward and use anti-grinding mods in my JRPGs.
>>12627827What a strange reply. I think you might be projecting something, anon.
>>12626930You played through the game instead of beating it, but that's a perfectly fine thing to do nowadays. People are busy so I can understand playing through multiple games but only getting good at the ones you really enjoy and beating those. Either way it's 1s and 0s being housed on digital and physical shelves solely meant for entertainment so it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
>>12627820you need to go see a psychiatrist ASAPbecause you are delusional
>>12627824Your argument is dead.
>>12627453Real. I had this same experience with FF IV
>>12627838You have ADHD
>>12627891>played through the game instead of beating itsix instead of a half-dozen
>>12628029trans instead of woman
>>12627838fast forward is excusable by me personally.if I can save 4 hours of my life on a game skipping loading times and backtracking or farming with low effort braindead gameplay where you just autoattack without any danger of dying then I'll take it.but no save-states tho, and as a crutch I login to troonachievements with hardcore,so the emulator disables saving/rewinding alltogether
ONLY acceptable uses of save states:(1) If the cartridge lacks a "save" feature and intends you to complete it in one day, you may use it to stop for the evening and picking up the next day. Like SMB3. However, you may not keep reloading the save. Treat it like one continuous play session. Once you save and load the next day, you continue no matter what.(2) You may use it to practice, but you still need to clear the game legit. I use save states to practice portions of SMW kaizo levels, but I do clear them legit after practice. Another example would be practicing the final boss of Ninja Gaiden 1, before you attempt it for real.(3) If the game has a traditional save feature, you may also make save states where the game prompts you to save. This is the same as just saving your game. This is just a technical thing. It's valid to save via save state, versus using the in-game save feature. Either is fine if you do it when prompted. That's it. You otherwise didn't beat the game.

>>12627010believe it or not but dorks also police how you use save mechanics in games that feature them natively. they can't have sex so they have that instead. with men. on forums
Save states are OK when you have a job.
One thing to add is that some games allow you to save your progress right before some rng and thus you can simply load again and again until you get your desired rng outcome. I think you youngins call it "saves cumming". Now that is an example of you not using save states and still not beating the game. So it isn't solely tied to emulator save states. Jus sayin.
>>12628232This guy gets it>>12628657why employim dont season dey saves
>>12628637While I'd like it to be as simple as /vr/gins being virgins, there is clearly a degree of cognitive dissonance relating to save states, which are hated, and quick saves, which are not. I can't claim to hold the answers here. I'm only pointing out that one has not yet been stated by anyone.

If you use save states, your gay. Simple as.
>>12626930Meanwhile PC users were saving every 30 seconds. I know this because when I got my first PC and found out quicksave was a thing I used it constantly. It’s only a console thing before hard drives were introduced where u had save points.

I build software tools to help me savescum easier in games that try to lock it down. Sometimes there are these things called real life responsibilities that no-lifers don't seem to get. I could not care less about any of your delicate faggot sensibilities. The idea that you get self worth from completing a game at all is much more reflective of how much of a little bitch you are.
