Why does Code Veronica get a bad rep? Just finished RE1-3 (on PS1) and started CV and it's pretty good
I don't trust people who don't like Steve. Simple as.
>>12627002It just feels more dated than the first three is all. It's still a solid RE game though and was amazing to play in the year it was released..
>>12627004Only Claire waifufags hated him. The rest of us understood that his being an annoying retard was an important part of the story.
>>12627020Wrong, women don't like him because he's not 35 and older than Claire. The guys that don't like him aren't willing to admit that they too were as cringe as Steve was growing up as they tried to find their personality.Claire going from 'raising' a little girl to 'raising' a teenage boy is a good switch up and a good continuation from RE2.
>>12627002it has a very overt domestic japanese anime style that replaced the western homage aspect of the prior 3 games. if you were a fan of the first 3 games it was sort like capcom saying fuck you resident evil isn't for gaijin.
>>12627002the second half is kinda mid so it left a bad taste in people's mouths. to be fair it's most games in the series that drop the ball on its second half
>>12627028the older ones are only western to you because you didn't question them
It was a Fox & the Grapes scenario since all the playstation tards couldn't play it on release originally so they've talked shit about it ever since as a result
constant backtracking with respawning enemies is fucking annoying
>>12627965That and the item box being shared between Chris and Claire is pretty bad, also the random character swapping. It should have been 2 scenarios.
You have been visited by Big Green Bullshit Hallway! Stunlocks, instant deaths, and restarts will follow you unless you respond "GOSH BEAUTIFUL, I SAID I WAS SOHRRY" to this post!
>>12630153all you need is one heal.
>>12627007More dated than the first games..? You didnt notice the 3D graphics, rotating camera and very detailed character models, especially the faces and facial expressions?
>>12630153>emulator faggot being retardedLike clockwork.
>>12627002It's because Woketards hate it after Claire made a comment about Alfred being a cross dressing freak.>>12627024>The guys that don't like him aren't willing to admit that they too were as cringe as Steve was growing up as they tried to find their personality.Nah, Steve was just pure cringe. My personality is nothing like his, plus I'm great with women. For starters I wouldn't try to kiss a woman while she's sleeping. I also wouldn't be acting insecure around Claire.
>>12630358Hah, Claire would summon your internal spaghetti and it would spill forth out of your pockets.
If it was all that bad wouldnt it be cheap?
>>12627002Araki loved it.
>>12630407Nah, Claire would be eating from the palm of my hand just by my looks and good charm.
>>12630427The edition on the cube has a low production count if i recall correctly
>>12627002Code Veronica is the best RE game.
>>12630440Araki also loves faggots so he is kinda a bad person to be repping a game.
>>12630245The pre-rendered backgrounds of the first three still have a distinct look while the 3D backgrounds of CV just look shitty compared to later 3D games.
>>12627007What does "dated" mean to you? Why does that even matter? It's a game. Is Monopoly dated? Chess?
>>12627960This is the correct answer. People who weren't around at the time have no idea how poisonous the Sony people were. PS2 was like their gang or something. Awful.
what's the best version? is there a little infograph for this game like pic related?
>>12631138>best versionwith retro games you should always play the original version. that is always the best version. in this case you should get the Dreamcast version.
>>12631141why is this true?
>>12631162It's because a video game pre-internet era (like 2005 at the earliest for online console gaming) was a completed product. They shipped a CD or cartridge and that was it. That is the game, there is no "versions" or "updates" or anything. If you want to improve the graphics and add new moves or characters you make a sequel and sell that in a completed version on a disc. That's what "Part 2" is - a game with updates, new features, maps, characters, but made to be a complete experience. The online updates stuff that online gaming has brought in has some upsides that are cool but honestly mostly downsides because the game is not a complete, standalone vision now instead it is a bunch of "assets" that can be switched in and out. That isn't how a good creative work is made and is why so much new stuff is missing what we call SOVL.Anyway so basically the "original version" is the only actual version. Remakes from 15 years later that overhaul the graphics can be cool. Games that came out on multiple consoles that had to be tweaked to their requirements (common with Genesis/SNES for example) are also worth comparing by version.Something like a Dreamcast game that was later released on other systems will always be a Dreamcast game. Those other releases were just to cash in. The original version was only released when the game was DONE. That is the game. That's why the original is the one.

>>12631170what about japan vs pal? why do different versions have slight game design differences?
Everyone was tired of the same formula.CV adds nothing to the table and looks visuable worse than RE3.
>>12631185Those kinds of differences are basically negligible in terms of enjoying the game. I don't think it would matter at all until you'd already played the game and decided you really liked it and wanted every possible bit of it you could get. That's what other versions are for. Just looking to play the game and see what it's about? Play the OG.
>>12630503Ah, I see. The revisionist campaign is complete.
>>12627002It was like 1999, and every single european videogame magazine got letters from psx fans saying that resident evil belong to psx consoles, I still have hobbyconsolas issues crying over some resident evil games not being in psx or ps2.
>>12630470I thought GC port was the best version? Just going off hear say tho.
>>12631041The best Jojo game is a fan game he had nothing to do with
>>12631130I can only play chess with real people representing the pieces on a life sized board, even then, it's pretty dated
>>12631347Yeah, but not many were made, making it kind of rare so resellers can jack up the price
>>12631130Steve is especially dated to the time period that the game came out. He's universally agreed to be cringe and annoying now, but at the time of release he's what was considered a "cool" guy. See also Kurtis from Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.
>>12627239I raise the counterpoint that most people never got to the second part>>12630153Veronica I thought was okay visually but pre-render is still way more atmospheric, although the change in Onimusha 3 or whatever was way more jarring
>>12630358On the real, a pubescent boy will most likely try to kiss or feel up a sleeping woman, and in this situation where your adrenaline and emotions are on a roller coaster ride the urges would probably overwhelm most boys and men and they would try to rape Claire
>>12631343To be fair Euro has that critic culture among fans where they all have to try and be Socrates or something opining on why everything is shite
>>12631662>On the real, a pubescentHow old do you think Steve was? 11? Also, on the real.... what esl is this?
>>12631745>what esl is this?Pretty sure that's Gen X slang so you've actually just exposed yourself as a millennial. I'd guess about 38.
>>12631745Just used it as a blanket term for around that age when your hormones are still crazy and mind is probably not always making the best decisions in those situations
>>12631753Oh, cool, it's a gen war slop pusher
>>12631753
>>12632045>>12632056Made me search it, on the real originated in the 80's, 'for real' in the 20's from Yiddish slang. Now can we get back on topic about sexual harassment and rape?
>>12632069Got a link, or should we just take your word for it that you were in fact not wrong...
>>12632056Shame how often AI is still wrong.>>12632069As in the 1920s or 2020s? Because I remember it being in use since at least the 90s.
>>12632143That was a different anon, anon. But this was the first result when I searched it and there are post dates from 2003, so it's confirmed at least that old.https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=on+the+realIt's definitely Gen X slang though. And "for real" was much more common in the 90s but could also be considered Gen X.
>>12632149I was alive in the 80's, no one said, "on the real" at least not in America.
>>12631662As a kid, I used to sneak up on sleeping women(preferably ones who snore) and suck on their tits. But by the time I was 19, I loss my virginity to a hot redhead at a library back in 2001. She was a virgin as well, so it felt like magic for both me & her losing our virginity to each other. 17-year-old me(same age as Steve) would have been to shy or quiet to make a move on Claire, even if she's sleeping(she didn't even snore in the game).
>>12631461For me, the white pigments in modern pieces are anachronistic and distracting. I need the real thing!
>>12632287so many lies in one post
>>12631493I can assure you that no video game characters were ever considered "cool guys." They were always cringe and stupid it's part of the format of what is essentially a cartoon or comic book representation. It also doesn't matter. At the time we did not look to video game characters to inspire a personality we just went ahead with being ourselves.
>>12632056The AI retard is correct. Pre-millennials would say "for real" whereas "on the real" is a more modern construct.
>>12632318The least believable part is that his fat ass could sneak up on anyone. The rumblings of the floor and grunting/sighing would surely wake even the most asleep foid.
>>12627002It's ugly, doesn't felt next gen or a step up, repetitive, obnoxious characters, dumb looking Chris, nerfed Claired, dumb and cringe plot, worst level design, worst guns...At least Steve's death felt good.CV, 0, Remake were all a fucking mistake
>>12632328RE CV absolutely felt like the next step up when it was released, to state otherwise is incredibly dumb.. Resident Evil went from pre-rendered jpeg background to a highly detailed 3D environments where the character you played reacted to the environment they found themselves in. The level of detail jumped up a full generation, because it did - it went from 32bit to 128bit Dreamcast magic. If you weren't a zoomer this would be obvious for you, because you would have experienced the game in its natural time and not in contrived revisionism.
the historical revisionism is really strong with code veronica, it was considered a masterpiece back in the day
>>12632338>>12632347>RE CV Original Dreamcast Version: 1.14 million units sold>RE3 Original PS1 Version: ~3.5 million units soldhuh...
>>12632367ps1 console sales = ~100 milliondc console sales = ~10 millionhuh...
>>126323671.14 million copies sold is still impressive. This was before piracy prevented more sales by June & beyond.
>>12632371The point is if Code Veronica were really that good, every fan of RE or survival horror games would immediately buy a Dreamcast to play this so called great RE with "128bit Dreamcast magic"
>>12631301>Everyone who likes a game I hate is a revisionistI think /v/ would be more up your alley.
>>12632393Resident Evil was a popular series of games but never a system-seller. NFL2k, Soul Calibur, and Crazy Taxi were what moved units for Dreamcast. The DC was a very successful video game system in all regards that matter but Sega made a critical mistake in not using DVD media. At the time this was a very important market advantage for Sony because DVD players were new tech, very much in demand, and expensive enough that most people didn't have them. Getting a PS2 was like getting a DVD player thrown in for free. Sega figured this out and I believe it's why they threw in the towel when they did. DVD also had larger storage space for games but I don't think that was as important as the ability to use it to watch movies.
>>12632371So CV actually sold better, when comparing the install bases? Nice, it's the better game after all
>>12632393Not exactly. Half of RE fans were Sony fanboys who don't want to buy more than 1 console per generation. The other half of RE fans did buy a Dreamcast because of RE:CV.
>>12632410Consoles cost the equivalent of like $400 in today's money. It was only a small group of relatively well-off people who would buy more than one console. We didn't have as much extra money laying around as people tend to have today.
You know you can pick Wesker's sunglasses up off the ground after he beats up Chris, right? I did it when I was a kid.
>>12632401You typed dvd four times. You are really triggered.PS2 was 3x the value of a regular dvd player by 2001.CV was average, deal with it.
>>12632421i dont think you can do that, kid you made up memories.
>>12631170yeah there's definitely no such thing as region releases, version update releases, remasters, new content or previously unreleased content for ports, cuts from technical limitations that get restored, and so on on games that were released on physical medium! get the fuck out of here you retard.
>>12632452I did pick up his glasses, Anon.As a matter of fact, I'm picking them up right now.
>>12632430I remember a DVD player costing about $125 in 2001, which is when I bought my first one. I'm not triggered and don't care at all I am just sharing the contemporary history for people who likely weren't even born yet. DVD's were awesome and a huge improvement over tapes. I was stoked to get one but since I already had one that feature of the PS2 was unimportant to me. For most people that was not the case.

>>12632416LMFAO Dude my mother was a single parent who worked a minimum wage job and yet I had the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, PS1, Sega Saturn, N64 and Dreamcast. All before I started working at McDonald's and bought a PS2, Gamecube & Xbox. Things were way cheaper back then.
>>12632486I knew a kid who told me that his mom bought him a Super Nintendo so he wouldn't tell on her boyfriend for diddling him. your story reminds me of that one.
>>12632493Well he clearly told
>>12632494lmao. we also the sort of universal understanding that if you had a Sega Genesis your parents were divorced
>>12632493Well my mom didn't have a boyfriend when she bought me a Super Nintendo and I was already old enough to report her to the police if she were to "diddle" me. Sorry to hear you went through that with your mother, must of been horrifying due to how fat and ugly she is.
>>12632498Not true, my parents were still married when they bought me a Sega Genesis. Surprisedly enough, my neighbor had a Super Nintendo and his father is divorced and single.
>>12632545it was just a joke. Wiggers liked Sega Genesis because of the xxtrememe branding. Nerds also liked it because the games were actually pretty nerdy and japanese. It was a weird coalition. In the 90's we had friends and went to their houses so we all played the other system regularly. I never had a Genesis for example but was very familiar with it and the games on it.
>>12631493>at the time of release he's what was considered a "cool" guy.No he was not. Have you played this game? Just hear the whiny little faggot for 3 seconds. What's wrong with these contrarian retards? They'll literally just say anything.
>>12632396>le straw man argumentShut the fuck up.
>>12632347Those old reviews is good for a laugh. This is my favorite because it's so over the top it reads like a parody of a shill review.https://web.archive.org/web/20191117130723/https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/codeveronica_dc>Your characters are also fabricated with unbelievable and intricate detail, Claire's face is extremely expressive and her head moves around and focuses on certain objects as you move her through the environment. The expressions of horror are clearly visible, the clarity of the visuals really tugs the emotional strings you have for her, the blatant flirtations with another character Steve add a depth and roundness to the character rarely seen in video games. You feel empathy for this character like no other before, which makes the horror of seeing her torn apart by zombies incredibly disturbing.
>>12632559I was going through my old gaming stuff and found a Sega and games for it. I have no recollection of having a Sega, but there it is.
>>12632743you had to be there, zoomie
If it has bosses where you can't either escape or, if forced to, beat them with the weapons you have at hand, I won't be playing it.I tried playing thru re3 ps1 recently for the first time and around halfway thru you suddenly can't escape nemesis and have to fight him and nothing else works except spamming the grenade launcher rounds which I left in the box.I could have reloaded the save and played maybe 20 minutes again and known to pick the launcher, but what would the point be if the surprise is already known. I had like 20 health items and hundreds of rounds in the box, but I just deleted the game and saves after that. Used save states the figure if there was a way to win.
It starts okay but rapidly turns to shit once you start alternating between Chris and Claire.
>>12632754Use the knife :DDDDD
>>12627002Dem Golden Lugers, Mang
>>12632729>its a strawman because i can't refute itslit your throat, faggot
>>12632743Why do they act like characters looking at points of interest is a new feature? They did that back in RE2.
>>12632758I think you can use the knife to kill even nemesis with 100 successful slashes, but you don't carry the knife as a backup outside of inventory slots, so the knife was also in the box. Seemed pretty shit tier seeing it had a realistic range for a video game knife so it was maybe useful to conserve ammo if there was only one zombie and you down it and then keep believing in the knife. I had the shotgun and pistol with some ammo for both. I watched youtube and if you just spam the launcher you stun lock nemesis and win and I had like 50 unused launcher rounds in the box, playing on normal but looking for ammo carefully.I was simply on edge and I was afraid I was gonna snap my keyboard in half which was realistically going to happen so I just rage-uninstalled the game. It's not like I didn't know what the game was about seeing I had played the og re1-2 games already and I knew it was definitely not going to be like re4 where you just find infinite ammo on ground during the bosses.
I actually genuinely despise every boss battle I can remember out of the og re1-3. I like the general gameplay where you look at the map and plan your next move on where to go and you choose which enemies to ignore/dodge, which to kill, which to lay down for a while. You are allowed to make some mistakes but not too much and the playing feels more dynamic than it actually is.The bosses are all just completely shit because of how the controls are and you can't really know if you can or if you should kill them or if you should escape, and they are supposed to be surprises on first playthru but once you know they are coming, the surprise is gone. I don't feel horror, I feel pissed.Even tho I understand where the developers are coming from and that the difficulty is supposed to be cruel like you can literally play 10 hours and then you reach the end boss and you just don't have enough ammo to finish the big bad even if you just checked the box.
>>12632773>I was simply on edge and I was afraid I was gonna snap my keyboard in half which was realistically going to happen so I just rage-uninstalled the game.get some help, reloading a save to prepare for a boss is part of these games.tbf nemesis is the most annoying boss fight of the entire trilogy but it aint that hard.
>>12632784>Even tho I understand where the developers are coming from and that the difficulty is supposed to be cruel like you can literally play 10 hours and then you reach the end boss and you just don't have enough ammo to finish the big bad even if you just checked the box.god damn you suck at video games,in the entire trilogy the whole strategy is dodge if its easy to do so and blast everything in your way if not since you finish these games with enough ammo still in the box that you could probably do a whole second playthrough on the same stock.
>>12627002>Why does Code Veronica get a bad rep?Because the game made sony furious. Because capcom dared to debut Veronica for a non plebstation console. Snoys never forgive. Never forget.
>>12632785I know there was no rational reason to quit the game because I had plenty of ammo in the box like I described and I would have had to play 20min of gameplay at tops up to the clock tower or something. I'll maybe finish the game some other time, but I was on the edge at the time and had already smashes a controller playing some other game (it was not worth the controller even that time tho, even if it relieved some stress).>>12632793I think the thing where was just physically not enough ammo around happened to me with re1 but that was many many years ago. Re2 I played thru a few times tho it was probably more easy than re1, can't remember. I don't think it's something to rage about, it's just you know you can be softlocked from finishing the games afaik.I got better at the games later, I honed my skills in re2 and figured you can just run past most zombies and kill or spare enemies.Same applied in re4 which I pretty recently played thru the first time, so if you weren't escorting the girl you could just run past most enemies. Ironically there was no need to do so very often, because the enemies who were unarmed or even dogs and shit would drop ammunition... That's going from one end to another compared to old games.
Another example where I dislike but somewhat tolerate the bosses is mgs2 (but in mgs3 the bosses are pretty good and I can even get invested in them, can't remember any emotion on if I liked the mgs1 bosses other than the funny gimmicks). But in mgs2 it's black-and-white clear to me that, like in re1-3, I like the general gameplay of looking at the map and finding the optimal route and choosing the battles better than any of the bosses.
>>12632828>>12632839Based opinions t same anon
>>12627020>being an annoying retard was an important part of the storybad story
>>12627002Because it was outsourced to some shovelware company.
>>12632828>I was on the edge at the time and had already smashes a controller playing some other gameare you 12?
>>12634452No but I was probably 15 when I first smashed one and then it happens sometimes rarely. It's the feeling where some frustration (not from the game necessarily) builds up and you just know that you should switch off the console and wait for 15 seconds for the feeling to defuse. But I mean, if no one else is around and you smash your own belongings, it's one of the safest ways to release anger even if it's "retarded".
I lost my virginity while playing this game with a girl from school, good times.
>>12632743>one cringe interview by some onions retard invalidates all the overwhelming praise the game got after releaseOK bro.
