That and a fair chunk of the resources of current society is going towards the war against the angels.So I bet it is less that they are hipsters with a preference towards Saturn's and Walkman's and more that old consumer tech salvaged from before Second Impact is widely available. Buying these things second hand / refurbished for a reasonable price is more practical than spending a fortune on something newly made.
