These games are only 3 or 4 hours long, if you know what you're doing. Quit your bitching and start over, just like you do with Ninja Gaiden, or Super Mario World, or Dragon Quest.

Ninja Gaiden had infinite continues.
>>
>>12629186
also Dragonquest just puts you back to the king when you die. You don't even lose any progress.
>>
It's just that it's annoying due to the time it takes to move the character around and re-do things. It wasn't a problem in text adventures because of how fast you can type your way through it.

I miss the golden era of adventure games.

Not that big a deal in most of Sierra's games, though I agree it's faster in text adventures.

And King's Quest had Save Anywhere.

>if you know what you're doing
isn't the whole point that you don't know what you're doing? If you do, it means you looked up a spoiler in which case why bother even playing?

Getting back to where you were in something like an action game is fun (if the game is good).
Being force to slowly re-solve puzzles you already know the answer to is boring and lame.

Except it's also pretty boring in something like an action game, especially older action games on the NES and SNES, which were extremely linear, and solving the combat was basically just a puzzle in itself, specifically Ninja Gaiden, which had very specific spawns requiring very specific timing for everything.

Adventure Games at least were free roam, and often had multiple solutions to puzzles.

So did Super Mario Bros.

The point is if you have gotten to a dead end and you suspect you have to replay from an earlier point in the game to prevent the dead end (this is why you keep a lot of saves), everything else you did after that point you can just redo.

As far as Sierra games go this is only really a problem in King's Quest 3 and even then it's fine once you fuck up the wizard.

King's Quest 5 can be kind of an absolute retard-dick to you as well, but yea, King's Quest 3 is the Great Filter. There's accidentally wasting ingredients, making the wrong optional spells that softlocks you 2 hours later, accidentally forgetting to put things back, the time limit, then some obscure bullshit inbetween all of that.

Half your gold.

All adventure games did.
