Which one do you prefer, 6 or 7? Me personally, 6 for characters and story, 7 for graphics and environment.
>>12630482VIII
>>12630485Also a good choice, just a bit lacking in certain areas, in my opinion.
There isn't a single meaningfull point where FF6 is superior to FF7FF6 is a propaganda by tendies butthurt about Square "betrayal"
>>12630485fpbp
>>12630492>FF6 is a propaganda by tendies butthurt about Square "betrayal"Not really an argument, I like both games but 6 will probably be my favorite above 7 because of it's huge arsenal of characters and steampunk/industrial setting. FF7 also has a fuck ton of things I like that I think is done better over 6, but that's why I made this thread since i'm curious what /vr/ has to say.
>>12630492FF6 has a way better story and it's graphics aged way better than 7's super retarded dumbell arms chibies
7 in every way.I wanted to like 6, I gave it a fair shake, beat it twice decades apart. But it doesn't hook me for some reason. I enjoy 5 more.I think it's because there are just too many characters in 6. Everything doesn't feel as grand somehow and I didn't care about any characters other than Celes and Locke.I still enjoy it but it just never did it for me. I'm sure others feel the same about my favs (5,7,8,9).
>>12630497>huge arsenal of charactersThey are bland and boring af, yuffie an optional character is more fun and charming than any FF6 characters >steampunk/industrial settingThere is barely any steampunk in this game,90% of town look like generic medieval fantasy settings ,most of them look exactly the sameFF7 every town and locations is vastly different from each other, most of them don't look like generic medieval fantasy settings
>>12630492It doesn't overstay its welcome.
Whenever you start getting into FF6's main story it introduces some new character and immediately expects you to consider them equal to our main characters.
>>12630519>They are bland and boring af, yuffie an optional character is more fun and charming than any FF6 charactersI disagree, but we won't really get anywhere here since this is all subjective.>There is barely any steampunk in this game,90% of town look like generic medieval fantasy settings ,most of them look exactly the sameDoes Vector or Kefka's Tower look like medieval fantasy? There are quite a lot of industralised locations in the game, the towns look exactly how industrial era towns did.
>>12630482You first, op. That's a non answer
>>12630521No it doesn't, the game presents you with the unique option of setting your own parties so you can prioritise characters you like over characters you don't like or simply have no joy in using. But this is also a game where the characters ARE the main focus more than the story itself, kefka and the empire ruin the lives of every character in this game and they all unite in their own personal tragedies to fight kefka.
>>12630524>You first, op. That's a non answer>>12630497
>>12630498>graphics aged way better than 7'sMhh i don't think so>FF6 has a way better storyAhahaa >I have a plan to get an aeronef, let's organize an opera with Celes ,your performance will be so mesmerising that the owner of the aeronef will try to kidnap youDumbest plan in the history of J-RPG (and there is competition)Oh and i didn't forget the cringeworthy furry scene

VII for gameplay VI for vibes
>>126305566 look bland and generic af7 is miles ahead in terms of creativity, epicness, goofiness etc...
FF6 is also one of the few FF without any superbossesNo enemies in FF6 will ever push you to your limit gameplay wise...What a disgrace
Anyone saying 6 has good characters or story hasn’t played it since they were a kid. Most characters are one note and have near-zero development after their first few scenes. The massive amount of characters also means that most scenes have your party members saying something generic or nothing at all because they didn’t want to write unique dialogue for each possible character you could have in any scene. The story has good broad ideas but is horrible in execution. It’s constantly either meandering or rushing - scenes that should have had more impact get hand waved through while scenes that are complete filler drag on for way too long. Speaking of filler the game is kind of obsessed with doing something only vaguely connected to the main plot, it seems after every plot heavy sequence you’re thrown into a filler bit.Kefka is a terrible villain and while him succeeding is iconic it happens way earlier than it should have. The second half of the game is markedly less engaging narratively - especially if you’re not interested in going after each character, which you probably aren’t because the bulk of them are so dull.
Another shitty thing with FF6 is the super high encounter rate3 steps 1 combat...
>>12630551>let's SETTLE this!!>um...ummm...ff6 would probably maybe be my pick...b-but ff7 is a lot better in all these aspects though, s-s-so....!!!nice definition of "settling" something
>>12630571>i'm retarded and can't readgo be disingenuous elsewhere.
>>12630482>6 for characters and storythe characters and plot in 7 are objectively superior. Cloud, Tifa, Aeris, and Barret all have more growth, development and nuance than the entire cast in 6. (Which isn't saying much because the cast is 6 is relatively flat and undeveloped.) 7 also has one of the most foreshadowed and executed plot twists in gaming history. The overall story is perfectly delivered and captures the mood and atmosphere in each scene. >>12630492this anon is right, 7 does everything 6 does, and does it all better.
>>12630560>6 look bland and generic afI think it has the best soundtrack in the series, and there's an ominousness to the atmosphere that I dig. Sadly that's where the positives end for me. Far from my favorite.
>>12630482They're very different, I think a lot boils down to personal preference and/or what you played first. I like VI. It has a lot of characters and though their stories and backstories are more simple melodramatic and broadly sketched, they combine to create a world that feels very alive. And VI's music is great. Gameplay-wise VI has snappier battles but less customization. I had more fun with the gameplay in VIII than either VI or VII desu.
>>12630482I prefer 6, but 7 is close. Both are favorites of mine, along with 4 and 5. That entire Super Nintendo and Playstation era was a great time for Final Fantasy.
>>12630561There weren't really superbosses in the series before FF5 (unless you want to count Warmech or optional bosses like Bahamut, but 6 has equivalents to those). Technically FF7 also didn't have any superbosses in its original version either, Ruby and Emerald were added for the American/international version. It does have the Battle Square though, which is better than the colosseum in FF6. FF6's second half is non-linear, so you can get some challenging fights if you immediately go to Kefka's Tower or fight bosses like the dragons underprepared. If you want superbosses in FF6, you can at least play the GBA version now, or one of the many romhacks. I wish someone would hack the entire Dragon's Den into the SNES version.
>>12630482I enjoy both, hard to say which i prefer. both are the peak of the series.
>>12630639>you can at least play the GBA version now, or one of the many romhackskill yourself. if it's not part of the original experience it's fan fiction crap that should not be given anyone's time.
>>126304826 7 lmao
>>12630675>if it's not part of the original experience it's fan fiction crapThen Ruby and Emerald are fan fiction crap.
>>12630681if it's the original experience for people outside of japan then it still counts.
>>12630482>FF 7 is the most overrated jrpg ever made
6 is about as good as you can get with an RPG Maker game. But 7 marks the point where the genre was elevated to something incredible, with its unprecedented popularity and sales reflecting that. There's just no world where 6 is still an interesting game after 7 exists. It wasn't even a popular game until well after 7 brought the series into mainstream popularity.7 has countless spinoffs, movies, remakes. What does 6 have?
>>12631072My wife Celes and my daughterwife Relm.
>>126304827 and it isn't close.
I have one foot in the door on both of these games and wasn't quite old enough to play either of them way back when. I didn't really get JRPGs until only a few years ago. Anyway I was about a dozen hours into FFVII and was really enjoying it but my save got corrupted and it broke my heart. I started playing FFVI on my 3DS (the NA SNES version) and am in the midst of going to the dark continent, or whatever it is going to be called. I lost some progress and then had a hard time getting past Air Force. I love the game though, the sheer amount of abilities and things characters can do is super cool, there's so much personality everywhere. The only person in my group who I don't really understand is the Tarzan boy who can learn enemy attacks, I feel like he's always a crapshoot. I've enjoyed the characters, the story, the enemies, and it's all been varied and exciting and interesting. The only time I got truly stuck I looked into an old FAQ and was shocked to find that there's a lot of shit I've missed out on already. This game is humongous. about the gambling man--is his slot machine luck based or is it skill based? I can see that it will sometimes decisively roll the chocobo attack or the three diamonds thing, but I haven't gotten all 7s or all Bars yet, and I've been trying.
>>12630482Both are good games hampered by weak endings, but I like the characters in 7 a bit more.
>>12631196>about the gambling man--is his slot machine luck based or is it skill based? It's a bit of a mix. You can time things, but some combinations like All 7s won't be possible every time you select the command. Technically there are tricks to manipulate the random numbers so you can get it when you want, but playing normally it's random. You're not likely to see All 7s, I don't think I've ever gotten it, despite replaying the game multiple times.
>>12631072I fail to see what the big difference is. I can't say that I'm like, impressed by superscaler technology on the airship or something, but it's a great looking game. FFVII is a better looking game. But in every other regard they are very comparable. FFVII was a huge breakthrough in the west, but we get about one huge breakthrough JRPG per generation. They are both good games and in hindsight they are not so different from each other.
>>12631210Granted, I don't typically use Slot all that often in my playthroughs.
>>12631212Yeah, both are so good, and similar in many ways, that it always feels weird having this rivalry between them. Most people I know who've played them enjoy both games. Really, the only reason people argue about it so much is because they're both so highly respected. Both are candidates for best in the series, so people want to argue for the crown. VI is my favorite, but VII does some things better. I think VII has the best party in any Final Fantasy, great characters with interesting personalities and arcs. The story is probably the best in the series in terms of how it's told.
>>12630482both are good. But 6 is better, I am glad that I played 7 in 1999 and 6 in 2002.
